What’s up DeathBat family? I’ve been super excited working on these caged position lessons. There are a lot of really awesome licks that Papa Gates demonstrates in these lessons and it’s been really helping me with my country picking aspirations. I’ve been really taking theory a lot more seriously and currently I’m dividing up my time with all the things that I’ve wanted to learn . I’ve been picking up my classical guitar again and it feels so incredible thanks to all the advice on one of my posts! I’m getting a little bit better with my second Avenged Sevenfold solo, shepherd of fire. I was just wondering what you all are up to and what you have been learning? I’d love to see/hear it!! 🤗🤗

I’m working on Money by pink floyd right now. I have it at like 90-95%. Also try to do some hybrid picking exercises and syns’s alternate picking etudes VIII when I have time. When I’m finished learning money I’m gonna try to learn this beast by ear

And then gypsy jazz, the Stage, Sunny Disposition, Paradigm, Afterlife and planets are.pretty much always part of my practice regime. As in I play them.when I have time.

i have an upcoming gig in a few days maybe 5 or 6 days, and im learning 15 songs for the setlist hahaha we are opening for another band in the beach but we are currently having problems with the singer, i already learned half of them and if it all works out we might finish with my original songs.
i have more original songs but it is a pain in the butt teaching the original songs to the band hahaha
thats why i have been absent in the last few days

As a newbie I’m currently working on some chords as well as different scales. But I’ve gotta have some fun too right ?!? I know some say tabs will hinder you, but I’m working on the GOT theme song and it’s so much fun ! Im enjoying it even if it’s taking me FOREVER! lol I also recently learned some zelda songs for my 8 year old son and they’re so fun to play and I love hearing him hum/sing the notes along with me as I play.

Ive noticed i always downstroke first so im gonna start trying to start with upstrokes in a lot of my licks I’ve written or played of others.
Also trying to implement more vertical playimg rather then horizontal on one string. Alwaya more to learn. Youll never stop trting to develop. Its a great feeling.

A while ago I was practicing economy picking with etude I, but in every position of the major scale and harmonic minor scale. Then I was learning to play breaking all illusions by dream theater, mainly the beginning and some other parts. Now I’m trying to figure out the solo of a rite of passage (also by dream theater), I might post a short video on my progress some time. I know I kinda jump around a lot in the things I’m practicing, but that’s how I keep things interesting for myself.

I’m breaking some technique back down to basics and taking it slow to overcome a plateau, so working on the first-level Syn Etudes for alternate and sweep picking.
Decades ago I had learned Iron Maiden’s Phantom of the Opera and there’s a number of sections of triplets across the top two strings that, with no guidance (self-taught), I learned up-pulloff-down-up-pulloff-down. I want to fix that and use sweep technique on that before expanding into the deeper sweep picking proper. It’s harder than I thought to undo 3 decades of repetition.
Aside from that, just continuing to tighten up on the Stone Temple Pilots catalog – my first gig in 21 years happens next Saturday night. I’d post a flyer, but I don’t think anyone here is in southern Arizona :).

I had my very first music theory lesson with a great teacher and I can’t wait for the next one. We went through the Circle of Fifths, major and natural/harmonic/melodic minor scales (so much math). Even though I knew already most of the stuff, the new infos were extremely helpful and put some stuff in place in my head.
On guitar today is the day of the E Major – linking the scales together on the neck, CAGED system and pentatonics, and tryin’ to come up with different licks with Gotten (Slash) and Swomee Swan (Buckethead) backing tracks.
Have a great day everyone! 🙂

I’ve decided that to take my playing to the next level, I need to reconnect with my fundamental music theory roots. So I’ve decided the first step is going to be getting a better understanding of the fretboard.
Learning which notes are where and so on. I’ve always had the first position notes down but it’s time to relate it to the rest of the fretboard and rely less on fret numbers.
