What I've gained from this school

I'm mired in the theory section of lessons, but I've found from the lessons that I'm able to hear past the vocals and other instruments in my favorite songs and really concentrate on hearing all the cool background guitar stuff. Especially listening to what the rhythm and bass guitars are doing. It's especially fun with Avenged music because the guitar parts, both lead and rhythm, are so intricate. It does get hard at times because you have to NOT listen to the amazing solos in order to hear the background stuff.

Becoming a guitarist makes you much more aware of what you listen to. Sooner or later everybody starts to actually LISTEN and not just hear. Too few people do that these days. That's why simple 2-3 minute songs dominate the radio. That's the attention span of the average listener.
