You know Is it only me that like the simpler, chords/solo progression?

I liked a lot of city of evil guitar work, i know the band/syn do not particularly like that album or think it could have been better. but i like the guitar work very much, I feel maybe I”m a bit of a noob with music as I like the simpler melodies. For example this lesson

syn and zacky do a simple thing and i love it especially the ending triad(btw i dont know what a triad is lol)
I also like a lot of syn etudes sounds very nice and melodic but im guessing syn would never put something out as simple as that. Also I love carry on that song especially the solo, some may say the solo could be a bit syn etude like but i love it that song was made in like a week. Am i the only one that like this type of solo chord combination.

You are definitely not alone! I always try to cite a tip of wisdom to some people by saying, “The most legendary, chart-topping songs were written with a progression of very few basic chords that repeat themselves.”
By the way: A triad is simply three notes either played melodically (one note at a time) or harmonically (like a chord). A C major triad is technically a C major chord consisting of three notes – C, E, G. Triad meaning ‘3’
Now you could take those three notes and play them in succession of each other and end up with an arpeggio sound Hope that was helpful

I also like the guitar work in City of Evil. It doesn’t have to be super complex to sound good. Having simplicity in songs don’t take away it’s true musical potential.

I like the best of both worlds to be honest. Kind of mixing all the complicated stuff with the bit more straightforward things. I love city of evil. Also the easy chord progressions/melodies tend to have a catchyness I really like they are easy to sing along too so It’s great!
Every 1-3-5 chord basically consists of a triad. A triad really is a chord made out of 3 notes.

The most amazing of songs start off with a simple chord or two… roman sky is a great example. LIterally starts off as one small riff, and it just explodes and progresses from there. I think a lot of songs are written this way.. start out simple even if its a complicated melody.. its still “simple” and usually the song surrounds that melody to an extent. But yeah, as I said in another thread, alice in chains is a great example of simple being amazing. I saw them live last night and couldn’t believe how easy a lot of jerry’s solos are. But the feedback is the whole point of what he’s trying to accomplish in his solos. And its pretty amazing some of the sounds that come out of his guitar. Videos are uploading as we speak.

I brought in my tab book and We analyzed a couple songs off of City of Evil in a high school music theory class I took and it was amazing. The teacher was very impressed with their songwriting and he was a hard guy to impress lol

@Ed I do agree i just got the impression when talking to syn he didnt think of highly about it, he sed something for that time he sed he was proud but looking back he feels differently. i meant like melodies such as beast and the harlot chorus maybe. Sorry im not the wisest i made a bit of a assumption.

I think I remember hearing that he was just getting into sweeping techniques, and that looking back his sweeps and stuff were very simple at the time. Maybe that’s what he was referring to?

i dont know if this is on topic but, the song that impressed me musically with all the changes and the chromatisms and the rhythms was eternal rest the changes in that song are all over the place hahaha
