I am new here...

Hello. I'm Cleo and I am new to this community, new to guitar and am really pleased to be here.

I've always wanted to learn guitar but life has this way of making me do other stuff. But here I am, ready to learn. Finally.

I grew up listening to Guns N Roses mainly (Thanks Dad) but I don't think that I ever loved music as much as when I discovered Avenged Sevenfold when Waking the Fallen came out.

Maybe one day I'll be able to play one of their songs... in about 25 years ha ha.

I am currently at that stage of choosing my first electric guitar which is tricky when I've no idea what I need... I am having fun looking though.

Thanks for having me.

Not sure how but maybe this could be expanded upon.

  • Question
Beginner set up?

Hey. I'm new here and I'm sure I am repeating a question asked before but I couldn't find the answer so I'm hoping not to be too annoying.

I'm keen to learn guitar. I have no experience at all. Except from listening to more music than I like to admit. I currently own an acoustic guitar, and I am assuming it's very basic as it cost £250 about 15 years ago. I have had a little play today and I'm not feeling the love.

I think I am just going to buy an electric guitar and set up but I am so overwhelmed. I don't think it matters but just for info I am in the UK.

Would the Syn custom standard Schecter be suitable for someone learning? What else would I need?

I do believe that I may be having a midlife crisis ha ha ha. However I am determined and would appreciate any help. Thank you so much.

My first show!

I finally booked my first show! I’ve been practicing a lot lately trying to get some of these videos made and they’re definitely still in the works. But I’ve got a lot more work ahead of me to make my first show a good one. I only get 15 minutes but I’m gonna make those 15 minutes count. I’ve already got my songs picked out (Bat Country, Sonne, Seek and Destroy (radio edit)) I’m definitely going to send out some of my videos soon but before that happens I will be spending a lot of time getting ready. I’ll also be representing the Synner community with my new badass Synner shirt I bought! Wish me luck guys! I’m definitely posting a video of my first performance which will be on September 2nd!

Happy Birthday Syn!! : )

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYN! Thank you for being such a great influence and person to look up to. I think I speak for all of us including myself when I say that you and Avenged have pulled us out of some very difficult times in our lives and instead gave us inspiration and a peace of mind. Thank you for all the great music but more importantly this great place for all of us Synners to hang out and learn from each other. Have a great rest of your day and I hope You and everyone else are doing well ( :

Cordially :p

Hellwin stage 100 midi 5 buttons footswitch problem

Amplifier is working. I can change channels from the amp front panel switches. The problem is the 5 buttons midi footswitch. Tried using TS and TRS cables with no difference.

Symptoms>>>
Powering on the amp >>>>>>> midi footswitch led lights will flash sequentially (initialization). After that, all the lights on the footswitch will be off and amp will not respond to footswitch (amp will respond to the front panel switches).

initial troubleshooting>>>
Disassemble the footswitch to see any loose connection. Good connections on the jack, no apparent defects on the PCB, and switches are OK.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Vocals Trouble with voice after singing

Hi, sometimes I practice vocals/singing and it can go decent. Often for like 2-3 days after a good day my voice is messed up, it's like dry or hoarse and I notice my tone when at the store or something. For a while I kept getting worried I damaged my voice or something but I think it's from the practice ( among other things ).
Is this normal and are there ways to prevent this? I'm not very experienced and have been kind of going about it my own way.
I heard drinking tea and having ice cream is good.

I need to go for now

What makes your playing uniquely you?

One of my favorite Jimmy Page quotes is:

“I believe every guitar player inherently has something unique about their playing. They just have to identify what makes them different and develop it.”

Not only is it one of my favorite Jimmy Page quotes, but it’s one of my favorite points of musical discussion. I asked this on Twitter but I’m dying to ask it here. What makes your playing uniquely YOU? And how do you want to expand upon it? I’m not just talking about guitar either. What makes the way you play your instrument, or draw your drawings, or write your writings, or whatever your form of artistic expression may be, what makes it special and unique to you?

Best guitar pick for Syn's style of playing

Hello SYNNER'S!
41.gif

I had been playing the guitar for about 7 years before I began to learn Synyster's playing style (Sweep picking, economy picking, etc.)
And for the majority of that time, I was using Jazz 3 picks.

A while ago, I tried using a regular sized pick (specifically, this PRS Heavy) and it felt more... "right," so I was wondering if this pick is suitable for syn's style of playing.

Although it feels like I have more control with a regular pick on fast sweeps and other fast parts, I am not used to this size.

Do you have any suggestions on which pick is better?
Does it depend on the style, and I need to switch to a bigger pick when playing Syn's stuff, or should I stick to what is familiar.

Introducing me and my A7X signed guitar from 2007 :)

Thought I would introduce myself into the group and share my A7X signed guitar.

I'm Aaron. I've been a fan of Avenged Sevenfold since sometime of City of Evil time frame, my father got this guitar signed by all of the guys in 2007 (he only got a photo of Matt signing it though). It stays tucked away in my guitar closet :) I've been playing guitar for something close to 20 years now.

Wanna share something

Even though I haven't met any of you in person, I feel like you're all family. I know I haven't been around here much, as I've been focusing on some more basic guitar stuff and been working on my mental health issues. I didn't want to share this on my socials but I wanted to tell someone and I like the anonymity here. So I've been clean from self harm for 1 year now!!! I almost relapsed a few times, and everyday is still a struggle, but I made it a year and I'm so proud of myself.

Happy birthday Radu!!!

Yesterday was the day of birth for our very own bearded ray of sunshine, our phenomenal community leader, the one and only @Radu-Cristian Perde!!! 🎉🎁🎈🎂

We love you and appreciate everything you do for this community brother! Hopefully you had a great day! Live it up for the rest of the month (the next 2 days), just no birthday suit please 😂

Cheers to you my friend 🥂

AOTM : Fortitude by Gojira

Alright I am going to talk about one of my AOTM : Fortitude by Gojira

This album is only 1 year and two months and I think it would be one of their most unforgettable album that their have ever did
Personally this album is my second favourite (the first is L' enfant sauvage) and I know why I love this album 😄

They kept, of course, their death metal genre but they took also a prog metal way, that gives a beautiful mix between the brutal and the melodic sound that is totally different from what they did before

If I have to pick some songs to introduce someone to Fortitude album or even to Gojira it would be :

Born for one thing : the introduction is a rise of power (not power metal way 😂) made by an amazing drums skills of Mario Duplantier and then when the voice and the guitars begin to play, the blast starts like it is born of a new music

Amazonia : They got inspired by the traditional music of amazonian tribes. This song has really a heavy sound by the guitars like they want to riot, to scream their hopeless
And it's because the song talks about the destroying of Amazonia forest and the disapearing of amazonian culture.
I love how metal and traditonal culture or instruments are mixed for making a song that we feel anger and pain the music has when Amazonia is destroyed

Another world : A great song with a great animated clip with an great end that remains a little bit Planet of the Ape but unlike the movie there are not apes 😂
But anyways, the song has incredible riffs and the end is perfect with the end of the clip : a tragic melodic end that is diminished slowly
We all prefered to be in another world

Fortitude + The Chant : My favourite song of the album and yes Fortitude and The Chant are actually one and same song. The first part has percussions instruments not really common in general with the diminished choirs like people can't speak and sing loud and when the second part starts, the voices and the music is free
And in addition, the voice of Joe Duplantier is more melodic and beautiful
And I think they did the second part like it has something to be spoke because the song talks about a child from Tibet who has to run away from his hometown after the chinese army came to invade Tibet and make disapear their culture
But at the end of the song, they say to not give up and like they said : Wake up to the sound of doom. Don't let your voice being quiet by the fear
Ah and I forget : the solo is one of my favorite from the album, mauve even from the whole of their career.

This is my first AOTM thread so maybe I was bad in reviewing an album but thank you to all who read it :)
