Hello.
I am not new to guitar, but my learning was unorthodox.
I learned mostly by myself, as teachers tended to keep me "stuck".
Once I found a good teacher he sadly quit after a year.
I started learning via tabs mostly, and watching videos of "how to" on techniques.
However, after many years of playing, I hate to admit I'm not where I want to be with my playing.
Most metal solos and complicated rhythms (complex string skipping for example) I am unable to play.
I tried following many online guitar teachers (Bernth, Paul Davids etc) and tried practicing more "hardcore" style.
I however noticed even months of grinding different exercises 3-4 hours a day using a metronome, my speed didn't go anywhere after a week.
I tried different exercises, different styles, taking a break once in a while.
How do you get past the plateau ?
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

I would like to buy Zacky V guitar, but in Austria the delivery time is at least 6 months :-(.
Can anyone recommend a model by eg Ibanez that compares to Zacky V? Preferably with 24 frets instead 22? Is there anything similar at all available?
Ibanez has much better availability in Austria.

In the song at the beginning of the chorus after matt sings "care at all" syn opens up with a lead not on the origonal track, basiclaly what im asking is if anyone knows anything more about this lead because my ears suck and i really wanna learn it and play it in my cover of the song

I need some help on learning how to solo to a chord progression. I try to use major and pentatonic scales, but just end up doing scale walks. Some advice to make my solos interesting would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have been asked by my sister (at least fifty times) and by people I talk to on the phone and things like that. “What’s your favorite song?”. I do not have a favorite song because (I am very confident in my playlist and selection of music that what I listen to is the best shit ever) the artists/ bands I listen to in my opinion are The Best Of The Best.. and I can’t pick a song from my library. So since I made the Buying a new guitar post I had wondered about MAKING my own guitar from like the start. A block of wood and it gets turned into a guitar, but I just wouldn’t know where to start neither do I have the space to do it. And I wanted to ask here because I am too lazy to type my questions in Google/ safari and have to search. But I figured I would get the best answers and advice and stuff here because it’s fun and I enjoy reading your replies and what not.

here are some of my questions:
1. What type of wood would be best for me to use for me to make the base and neck and all the major parts.
2. What tools would I need I’m sure there are tools I have not learned of I know the basic, chop saw, table saw etc. but what else is there that I would need
3. And… so far that’s all I got I’ll probably ask more later on

Kind of a niche question, but does anyone know if/when this guitar will release? I saw Avenged live at MSG and I can't stop thinking about this guitar, but I also couldn't find anything online about it. I know it's a shot in the dark but I'm wondering if anyone knows about this guitar lol.

Hey so I’ve been practicing a lot recently (I usually aim for bout 12 hours if not minimum of 10) but since I’ve completed all my assignments and shit I don’t really know what to do besides keep repeating the same things over and over and I don’t feel like that’s the best way to grow any tips or things to practice/ideas?

Okay so I have a Laguna ….LE 50 and trying to palm mute is like a BEACH I’m either muting too much or not muting at all, and I can’t figure out how to have a decent medium because even if I do get a decent muting I can’t really play on the bridge pick up because my hand can’t bend that far.

as a couple of people have posted about, the tab / sheet music does not follow along with what pap gates or syn are explaining in lessons, and any threads i've found about it have been answered "will be fixed soon", but this has been said since january. Is now july, apologies for beating the dead horse but any ETA on when we can learn again?

What is your guy's preferred guitar of choice? For me it's this kiesel Dc600 I got a couple years ago. Love it and I've yet to play another guitar that plays as well as it does tbh.

Hey all, I haven't been active on this website for a while and I have a question that seemingly everyone around me has a different opinion on. It's really simple, I just need to learn how to clean my fretboard, but yet I've gotten all sorts of different answers and I want to make sure I take extra care of my guitar. The fretboards are very dirty, as I had stopped playing for a while due to personal circumstances. Over the hiatus the fretboards for my guitars are caked in oil and soot and I want to get them looking brand new again. I initially spent about an hour or so rubbing off some of the more obvious dirt with a guitar pick, as to not scratch the wood, but there is still a considerable amount of residue left over. I heard to use steel wool, or lemon oil to get it out, but I don't want to damage the guitar. The frets are also not as shiny anymore, any recommendations on how to properly clean and take care of my guitars?

Honestly, this song might be a bit above my skill level, but I'm still trying it anyway. I'm having a bit of difficulty working out the chords being played along with figuring out the tuning the song is played in.

The band usually plays in Drop G# (7 string) and this song seems to be on clean guitar + acoustic mix. Are they using jazz voicings for this? Is it a four-note chord? Maybe someone can help shed some light for me.

Is there any source of raw material of A7X songs (like Almost Easy, etc.), Everything separated into different tracks/files? I would really like to learn mixing and mastering on A7X songs, but I don't want to use tools to separate guitars, vocals, etc. because it would really ruin the sound of everything. Currently, I have a Schecter Omen Extreme-6 going into an Orange Crush 20 (not the RT version). The only accessory I have for the setup is an Orange footswitch to change between the amp's clean and dirty channels, and honestly, it stays on the dirty setting except when tuning.
I really want to get a noise gate to deal with the extra noise that comes with high gain. For that, I'm thinking the Donner Noise Killer would work. I'd also like to get a Digitech Drop to play in more tunings without extra setup or gear.
Two questions:

1. All the videos I've seen suggest putting both those effects before distortion. If the amp is handling the distortion internally, that counts as coming after the effects, right? My logic is that it's guitar → pedal → pedal → amp (with distortion circuitry), but maybe I'm way off. Total noob here.
2. Second, any recommendations for the pitch shifter? I know the Drop is good, but it isn't cheap. I'm not looking for an octave pedal, nor a vibrato-ish pedal—just semitones. I'll buy the Drop if that's really the best option, but if I can save money, obviously that's preferable.

Hello, so this is my first time asking for help so I’m sorry if this question is confusing but I’ve recently been trying to learn songs by ear (for the past few months) I’ve gotten a few songs down by humming the song then playing it but I feel like there’s a better way are there any tips on how to do it? I also don’t have perfect pitch so I don’t know how to get “the next best thing”

Okay, so after I went and talked to my counselor cause I have pretty stressful situations at home, he informed me that his dad had played guitar but he had to connect a hose or something to the guitar and wait for it to like power up or something but every 15 minutes he would get electrocuted… If anyone has answer what kind of guitars were there back then

Just curious if anyone has used a Tremmory on their Custom S? If so what size did you get? Or are there any other Floyd Rose stabilizers that you prefer?

Curious to see everyone's favorite albums. For me Nightmare is definitely my favorite, can't beat it in my opinion. Two of my top five songs by avenged are on it. What about you guys?

In my band I we play some songs with drop tuning but most are standard so I have my syn guitar on standard and I change guitars for the drop, but i am sick of carrying everywhere 2 guitars. I found on YouTube this EVH D-tuna device that can make a Floyd rose change the tuning of the low E in seconds but can it work on a syn guitar?

Has anyone listened to or heard of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard??
