One of Syn's really useful tips in Lesson 37 was to commit as much of the Circle of Fifths to memory as possible - something I had put off doing for a while before joining the school. So I decided to memorize it properly and see if I could write a short instrumental cycling through all 12 keys in Lydian - which gives it this weird wonky feel - I put a creative twist in this one and got my foot involved too. Definitely had too much fun making this :D enjoy!

  • Been learning the solo in this song recently (1:17) It absolutely blows my mind that Bireli Lagrene just improvised this!

It really is, man! Yeah I've been having trouble getting the right feel for the rhythm guitar, now that you mention it. The whole song's an amazing challenge
So I was just teaching a private student not to think too much while improvising & I realised that I suffer from the same hesitation in some parts of my improv with 2-5-1's if I start to concentrate too much!

I decided to just sit with my guitar and force my fingers to continually play without thinking of where to go next - some interesting note choices to say the least, but putting that bit of pressure on really puts you to the test and helps your hands think on the fly :geek:
Been in a total jazz mood today, so I've went and filmed a short video on a fun Minor 2-5-1 hack I like to use. It shall be up soon!
If you want to feel truly limited as a Guitar player, try and jam along to both choruses in this tune  I feel personally attacked! (Spoiler alert: The 1st Chorus is in Eb Lydian and the 2nd Chorus is in E half b Lydian)

Did my first ever 'remote recording' session yesterday for my band's new single - it was pretty daunting! First time since the lockdown that I feel like I've actually done a day's work  #overdubsgalore
I'm having such a new found love for the Harmonic Major Scale today - eureka moments galore!
    Hey guys!

Just an update on the Pentatonic Tips video that I mentioned a while ago. I'm nearly at the point where I can upload my first one. I've decided to make the format more of a quick tips style, as I've recorded about 3 or 4 full length videos that I didn't like, and kept deleting and re-doing  (hence the delay)

Again I apologize for taking a while to get things moving, but I should have it done very soon!

Hope you're all keeping safe and well <3
Hey guys, just a heads up to apologise. I was supposed to upload a video of Pentatonic Tips a while ago and a bunch of things got in the way of the edit - i.e - this virus fiasco and losing a lot of work!

I promise I'll upload something soon!

I hope everyone's doing well and staying inside!

    Take care guys,

    Chris J x
Hey guys, hope you're all well :D just an update regarding my post about a Minor Pentatonic Improv Hacks video: I have 90% of it done, I just need to film a few more parts and do an edit. I'm just wondering if it would be more beneficial to post 1 or 2 lengthy videos or to split the info into smaller videos?

Let me know, thanks, and hope everyone's having a great day!

Depends on the length of the videos. I'd personally say that 5-10 minutes is a nice lenght.
Hey guys, hope you're well! I'm thinking of making a video with some improv hacks in it, based on the Minor Pentatonic Scale. Would this be something that anyone would find helpful? :geek:
