    Riff writing

There are so many ways...I have found that when I am just playing and goofing around on the guitar, great riffs will just come. Other times, I will pick up a different guitar I own that has a totally different sound or tuning and they will come that way. I also echo listening to as much music as...

What guitar to buy for low tuning

Hello! Hope I can help. What tunings are you considering going down to? Is there a sound you are going after? I have a 2000 Fender American Double Fat Strat, basically a 2 humbucker Fender Strat. I have dropped this one down one whole step from standard tuning, put .10-.52 gauge strings on it...

Hey Dominik! Sorry my response is a long time coming. Thanks for the compliments! I love the guitar. It was well rounded enough, with the right pickups, and wasn't purely metal-focused. I love 7 string guitars and am considering another one. The Seymour Duncans do the trick for me at the moment...

    Amp advice

Hey! I know I'm late to the party, but I hope I can help too. Both AxeFx and Kemper are great. I don't have a ton of experience with them, as they are pricey and I usually go for either a valve amp or a solid state combo. I have a Marshall MG and it's great. I love my Orange Crush 35RT as well...

    Replacing Epiphone SG standard nut

Graph-Tech nuts are great! Like many have mentioned, check the width of your neck and you will be ok. Use a repair tech or a luthier if you are uneasy doing that yourself. Epiphone lists the specs of their builds usually as well. Good luck!

    Any good guitars out there?

Hi Gabe, I will try to help and feel free to drop me a line. Right now, more so than when I was younger, there is a fantastic selection of guitars in the $500 and lower range that really do the job and are great quality instruments. First off, when I start looking, I establish a budget. How...

    Guild guitars?

Hey! Here's my two cents as well. Guild is an older, established brand that has gone through a few ownership changes. Fender owned them for a time and I really liked what they did back then, which is, like, the late 90's-early 00's. Like Jak said, Guilds are nice and are well known for their...

Hey Dominik! It sure is! It is a part of a limited run back in 2014 I believe. It's a C-7 Classic. I was so lucky to find one! It's the 7 string version of the C-1 Classic with the same inlays. Schecter made them for a couple years, I think and I got this one in mid-2016. I got it for a steal...

Starting back after a while out! Saying hello

Hello folks! Just introducing myself. I started out when this site first went live, then got caught up in life! After the site went down for awhile, it just slipped my mind! Glad to be back. The lessons are fantastic and Syn/ Papa Syn are great teachers! Happy shredding!

About Understanding and Reading Tabs – Lesson 5

I always had to use tabs in conjunction with musical notation and my ears, which I have luckily developed to be very sharp. That took a ton of practice, but it was worth it! I especially found this useful since the guitar can have up to 2 octave necks with the notes repeating themselves. An E...

How To Hold The Pick – Lesson 4

awesome stuff! I love that you guys also talk about pick thicknesses and the various applications. I play with a variety of picks from thick ones like Jazz 3's to thinner like .73mm for more acoustic applications. rock on!

How To Tune Your Guitar – Lesson 3

solid lessons. The clip-on tuners are great as are the apps, which surprise me. The apps are great on the go or if your tuner crapped out. Ear training really helps as well over time and you will be gradually able to hear when a guitar is even a quarter step out, sharp or flat. Great lesson.

Overview of the Electric Guitar – Lesson 1

I love that the site starts with these fundamentals of just understanding the layout of the instrument. I have lost so many students in my private teaching because I didn't start them fast enough on their favorite songs. Such valuable info! Cheers!

The Guitar Fretboard Layout – Lesson 6

I have to give a shout out to Syn and Papa Syn on the simplicity and easy-to-understand nature of these fundamental lessons! I've had guitar teachers who didn't know how to teach this necessary basics when I started out as a kid! Great stuff guys!
