This is great, Ids! And I can't believe I wasn't subscribed to you??

    Jackson vs Schecter

EMGs aren't "home grown" budget pickups. He's asking about the Schecter-branded pickups. If you like active pickups, there was nothing better than EMG - for decades - until Fishman Fluence came along.

    THE CONTEST WINNER IS.......

Super congrats, @ari.mac !! All I can say is that with so many wonderful, amazing, and in some cases heartwarming entries, I'm super glad that *I* didn't have to pick this time! That had to be a TOUGH CALL!

    Jackson vs Schecter

I think in the sub-$1000US price point, you're going to find pickups that are perfectly serviceable if you're not especially picky, but if you are, you'll want to budget for replacement, at least of the bridge pickup.

    Jackson vs Schecter

Oddly, I have never owned a Charvel or Jackson (or ESP, for that matter), and the only Schecter I had was a 7 string. The pickups were not great, but few manufacturers have good in-house stock pickups, especially in sub-$1,000 models.

Very well done, and I loved hearing your story. I have to admit that while you were playing the song, all I heard was "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family." What can I say? I have a teenager, and I've heard Barney more recently than "This Old Man," which could be MY song, ahem...

Well done, Lea! Bonus points for the metronome, and your chord changes are fluid and in time, while being confidently placed. If you haven't already, it's time to work on adding something new to your arsenal - this stuff you will get better at, but you've mastered the basics of it.

First, NEVER apologize for not being proficient in someone else's language. You did far better than I or 99% of Americans (or Brits, probably) could do with your language. With that out of the way.... You chord fingerings are getting solid. Work on getting them faster and smoother, so you can...

Great entry! What did it for me is that you say this is all about the pentatonic and that this is your first time writing a lead or melody type of line, and yet you tastefully stepped outside the "pentatonic box shape" to slide up and down here and there. A killer launch!

I'm sure Joe's tech saw that, smiled, and said to himself, "sure thing, Joe."

Happy birthday Aileé, Ethan and Marc!

Congratulations, all of you, on another successful circumnavigation of the sun. That was a bit more of an accomplishment than usual this time!

    SETUP: Basics of Intonation

Yes, except you don't need to let it "settle in" for a day before making additional adjustments, like you do with a truss rod. The cool thing is, Calvin, you can literally watch the saddle move when you turn the screw, so the mechanics of it will totally click for you once you try it!

Any Beginners Care To Share Their Story?

They let ME talk. You're DEFINITELY "cool/good/talented/whatever enough."

    SETUP: Basics of Intonation

That's a great guess, and it would make TOTAL SENSE, but it's actually the opposite. Tightening the screw brings the saddle further back, lengthening the string. I should also say the adjustments are *usually* going to be fairly small - quarter and half turns - unless it's in bad shape or...

    Pedals!

No updates on the new amp. At contest time, Syn had hinted at promo pics by year's end, and that has not materialized, so presumably the tentative ship date in February or so has slipped as well. Gives me time to get a few more pedals to pump through it. I haven't had pedals since I moved to...

    FRIZZLE FRY by Primus

Toys in the Attic is a popular Aerosmith album. Are you sure they weren't an Aerosmith cover band?

    FRIZZLE FRY by Primus

Love the mid-section to Groundhog's Day. Too Many Puppies seems like a great song to jam on. Loving Frizzle Fry. The main bass theme in The Toys Go Winding Down is REALLY fucking with my head. The groove on Pudding Time is killer. The guitar solo on Spegetti Western is crazy, and I'm really...
