It is a pinch harmonic on the 4th fret of the A string. I think I'll make a quick demo video to show how I move my fingers on this part.

    Active vs. Pasive Pickups

Okay, so active and passive pickups. The question for the ages. Passive pickups use magnets wrapped in wire to conduct the vibrations of the strings into electrical impulses transmitted to your amplifier. They take on the characteristics of the guitar - the wood (or combination of woods)...

This came out great! Perfect tone for it, too! Next, torture yourself with the Judas Priest version (yes, it's a real thing, and it's awful).

Nice! This can be a tricky song to get the note timings right, especially since he has multi-layered lead parts and they're not always playing the same motif at the same time. Keep practicing this, with an ear for where in the beat the pick hits the string and you'll have it super-tight!

    Hello from Italy!

It definitely was. One section of road was a narrow, winding highway. We were heading south, and riding a cliffside, with a large body of water way below us on the right/west. Very narrow, very twisty. Very large lorries with semi-drunk afternoon drivers using lane markers more like...

    Hello from Italy!

We drove in from Switzerland through the Gotthard, and down to Rome then Capri. That was one hell of a drive. After 5 days or so, we went up through Milan and the Mont-Blanc back into France to go home. It was mostly Rome, aside from the day in Capri and the night in Milan, and the drive, of course.

    Hi all

We tend to be good about support here. Oh, we'll tell you what you can work on. This is a school, after all, but unlike your family, we've ALL been where you are now, and the shit like what you find in YouTube or Instagram comments sections is prohibited here. It's a safe place to get...

    Hello from Italy!

Buongiorno! I have been wanting to brush up on my Italian - I've not used it since a lovely visit in 2012. Maybe we can help each other!

What are you currently listening to?

My favorite album in a LONG time, probably since The Stage.

    Hi all

Welcome Russ! You make me feel young! I'm about 50. There is no explicit way within the site to bookmark a favorite lesson, but as Manvir says, there are ways in your browser, and then there's the old fashioned post-it note with lesson numbers on it, too. Sometimes the old ways are the best...

    Most Difficult Syn Solo?

IIRC, Syn has said the solo in MIA gives him the most difficulty when he has to re-learn it for a tour.

Theory Request #1 - Major Scales explained

Okay, so what makes it D dorian is that it's the second mode of the C major scale. So if, for example, we were working with the D major scale's second mode, that would be E Dorian?

Theory Request #1 - Major Scales explained

So, in this case, would it be, for example, C Dorian or D Dorian in that second position? D, right?

Theory Request #1 - Major Scales explained

So, Andrei - the last example there, the 7 positions of the major scale. This is the modes, is it not?

Comment by 'Ed Seith' in media 'Heretic Intro - First attempt'

This is a tough intro to do with small hands (I know - I have short sausage fingers even though my hands are big). The big trick to learning here, aside from getting the odd notes, stretches and patterns involved, is getting good at muting the strings you're not playing while not muting the...

What do you guys think of my new song?

That's cool, Andrew! Definitely not what you'd expect to hear on a Syn Gates forum, but that stands out in a good way. Catchy vibe!
