What is your favorite song from The Stage album?

Paradigm. Musically and (oddly for me) lyrically, I think it's awesome and important.

Learning how to improv is perhaps the messiest but most rewarding part of playing for some of us. I've stuck with it at the expense of a lot of other things that I'm only now getting to. Enjoy it, and I look forward to your vid!

What are you currently listening to?

I don't know this song? B-Side? Strap is looking awesome there.

Steve Vai - new song and new technique?

Can we talk about that SSS cross between a Jem and an AZ too? And how many sick country-sounding licks he's got in there?

About Understanding and Reading Tabs – Lesson 5

It could be that you're pressing down too hard on some of the strings and pulling notes sharp. Try fretting the chord with just enough pressure to get the notes to ring, and see if that makes a difference.

City of Evil celebrates its 15th Birthday today

I devoured every one of those breakdown videos. True awesomeness.

CoE probably changes, but I might just have to say The Wicked End. I think Matt hit a writing and performance peak on that song. The Crusade, it's probably To the Rats. It's not perfect, but that opening riff and most of that song are what I think of first when I think of that album.

City of Evil celebrates its 15th Birthday today

We take it for granted now, but that a song as "out there" in writing and arrangement was a hit single, really couldn't have been predicted. I'm a little burnt on Bat Country now, and for that reason (only) it's my "least favorite" on the record, but man, if there's a perfect metal record out...

City of Evil celebrates its 15th Birthday today

The Crusade was my intro to Trivium, and at the time, I just loved how classic Metallica it sounded. I still love it, though Shogun may be my favorite.

City of Evil celebrates its 15th Birthday today

It's not a stretch to say this album (along with Trivium's The Crusade) restored my faith in heavy metal and metal guitar. Happy birthday, CoE!

    Floyd rose pitch range

TBH, that sounds like a lot. I don't think I've ever tested that because usually if I want that much of an increase, I'd depress it some before hitting the note. No sense chancing a broken string, pulling it quite so taut. That said, if you don't really see the NEED to be able to raise it quite...

Shit, now I want to mine my way through all the Sting solo albums. Dammit.

I certainly enjoy LISTENING to it, with your Parkway Drives and your Periphery and your Five Finger Moose Knuckles and all that, but I just don't get into PLAYING it really. Just still learning and accepting things about my own style and taste. That's kind of a newer exploration of things for me.

    Collab! Final Placements and Composition!

I think the ego bit mighta been for me, and that's cool. This is a lot of work, and as far as I'm concerned, the captains are producers and Aileé is the executive producer. Syn plays a lead for the next record, and the band thinks he can do better or the producer thinks he missed the mark, Syn...

Yeah, @Csgozzo91 - most of them are in E Standard now. The hardtails are "convertibles" to Drop D, of course. Same for Eb Std/Drop C#. But E Std is my homey.

@Dominik I do have one guitar I don't really care much for (got it in a trade) that is a hardtail and it's in D/Drop C and will stay that way. Not big on BfmV, but KSE tunes there, too, and there are a couple of those songs I can play without finger extensions (Fuck your long fingers, Adam D...

I realized it's time I accept that I really don't enjoy playing at tunings lower than Drop C#. I had m oldest guitars set up in Drop B (Black Ibanez) and B Standard (Red Ibanez). I've brought the red one up to EB standard and prefer it. Other one coming soon.
