    God Damn Solo

What other A-List musician is gonna drop in with the knowledge like that? Nice.

    Evil (Discouragement) on YouTube

@Andrew Fernandes - I don't think anything I've seen you do is any kind of a problem like this. You're not misrepresenting yourself, and that's really the key and the crux of the argument. @Dominik Gräber - Slipknot said it best. People=Shit.

A small request for you guys

I noticed that and I did it. I hit the big FIVE OH next summer.

Shred Wars with Jared Dines and Synyster Gates?

I like Music is Win. Makes sense he's theory-focused as he's a GIT or Berklee grad or something. I appreciate the suggestion, and I will think about it! Thanks!

I've written parts in apps, too - nothing wrong with that; it's just writing. If you run that MIDI through a re-amper and post it as your playing, well, that's where the problem starts...

Save "the perfect take" for a studio recording.

    Evil (Discouragement) on YouTube

I think doing a few takes to get a solid one is fine, but doing this sort of thing, or doing 100 takes until it's perfect is a bit much. For the Metal Minutes, I never do more than 3 complete takes, but that's just my personal philosophy/rule and an arbitrary number.

Shred Wars with Jared Dines and Synyster Gates?

Not old enough to be a Boomer! I'm Gen-X! I know he's a great player, and I'm sure he's a great guy to hang with IRL, but the "YouTuber Personality" all of these people have to adopt to become popular is just SO cringy all the time. Get off my lawn.

    Evil (Discouragement) on YouTube

Shit like this is why I started the #metalminute hashtag on IG. Keeping the emphasis on doing quick hits with no overdubs, coverups, or hundreds of takes to make it perfect. People who do this sort of thing discourage real players of all skill levels and they should be taken out behind the barn...

Shred Wars with Jared Dines and Synyster Gates?

Sorry, but no. Dines is a fine guitarist, but man, I just want to hit him every time he opens his mouth. No, he's not as bad as Stevie T, or whatever his name is, but please just no. Maybe I'm just too old for what people have to do to be "YouTube Famous," but so many of these people just annoy...

The Stage Solo. What are your thoughts?

Can definitely tell you've been hanging acoustic for a while. I think once you spend more time on this on electric, you'll get less stiff, and that's what it is - on acoustic, you need to adhere so hard to fretting the notes hard, and vibrato and bends feel different, and it loses some of the...

Comment by 'Ed Seith' in media 'Sieze the Day Solo'

Thanks, Andrew! I think I actually have the master tracks for that song. I just like how, in this take, you can hear how closely certain sections I've played align perfectly with Syn's playing. That was not specifically a conscious effort - I just learned the notes and put my heart into it, but...

Submit your band to the brand new Synyster Gates School Spotify playlists for Artists

Flip has gotten REALLY good at recording and mixing. His band is actually REALLY good stuff - check them out.

    Sieze the Day Solo

I don’t usually play solos note for note, and this is not QUITE an exception, but it’s such a wonderful, tasty and emotive place that I had to put some of my...

    New amp suggestions

@Calvin Phillips no shortage of cork sniffers out there, and for sure, Line6 has some shit, but they also have some really nice stuff and do a lot of things REALLY well. I had a Pod HD500 that was excellent at everything except cab emulation, and I used that for years until I got my AxeFX. In...

    New amp suggestions

Like all tube amps, the volume can be a little delicate to adjust at bedroom volumes, but it does play well there, and has killer tone. Not likely to be the amp you can turn on at 3am and not wake anyone, but at half-power (7 watts - a switch on the back) it's easy enough to dial in low volumes...

    New amp suggestions

I haven't played one, but so many here do swear by the Katana that it's probably the best choice. However, I have to add, I finally unloaded a ton of my old (early 90s) gear and got a PRS MT15 (the Mark Tremonti Lunchbox tube amp) and holy fuckballs, this thing is amazing. I won't be using it...

    Thank you everybody

Great story, Kai, and like so many others here, as I'm sure you've found. Thanks for your service, future veteran! My son is in the Corps and my daughter's eventual husband is a Navy man (learning nuke shit right now to keep the subs and floating cities running). I have a brother in law who's...
