I came in 222nd out of 1,750 so not bad for an old dude. I averaged 19.4 mph (31.22 kph) for 51 miles, which was a personal best. Top speed of 38.3 mph (61.6 kph), which was a little scary, TBH.

Riff Challenge Game! Everybody feel free to participate

Okay, so I've been gearing up for my bike race this week, which happened yesterday, so today is the first time I've really touched a guitar in a few days. The first thing this song taught me is that at this exact tempo, my hand synchronization was terrible. I could play the part a lot easier and...

Riff Challenge - Heart from your Hate

SynGates.com "Riff Challenge" - learned the opening bits of Trivium's "The Heart from your Hate" with about 30 minutes effort.

This was the whole way I learned to play guitar - playing along to records (vinyl - yes, really) until I got cassettes and then CDs happened. It really prepares you for playing with a band, but back then you couldn't slow it down :-). Doing great!

I had a feeling you'd never heard it and that you'd love it. That whole first album, Blood and Bullets, is GOLD. You're welcome. And no, just do it like a Metal Minute! first parts of the song. See the other examples.

Alexi Laiho is a REALLY well-regarded guitarist, i just can't get into their stuff. He's a great player, though!

Nice! Not a fan of this band either, but it sounded great! Nice lick at the end. Tasty!

Riff Challenge Game! Everybody feel free to participate

Back in the old days, if they finished recording a song and the producer or someone decided or agreed it needed to be faster or slower, they would just speed up or slow down the tape. There was no way to compensate for the pitch change back then, but no one really cared, either.

    What got you into guitar?

I'm not young, so this will be from a "different era" than most of you (1983 or so). Two guitar solos stuck out to me - Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" and REO Speedwagen's "Keep on Loving You" (the reverb-soaked pick-scrape heard round the world). I was mildly autistic (Aspergers) before most...

Jesus, that is FAST. It would take me a long time to learn that, I think. My downpicking is NOT thrash-friendly. I love that whole album though.
