    Hello from the Netherlands!

    Half-German American here. Welcome Sabine!

    Intonation and drop tuning

Any tremolo bridge is going to be like this, to one degree or another, unless you can "deck" it (tighten the mount/pivot screws making the trem either pitch drop only or fixed) or use some other device to manage the tension. I did a VERY LONG video explaining how floating trems work while I was...

Riff Challenge Game! Everybody feel free to participate

Stepping outside my straight ahead rock comfort zone into what is arguably a VERY funky riff was HARD. The notes were easy, but finding this groove was VERY elusive - great challenge, and I loved getting it. Thanks, Ids! https://syngates.com/media/riff-challenge-paul-gilbert-vibrato.2359/ I'll...

Riff Challenge - Paul Gilbert "Vibrato"

Okay, today’s metalminute is also a part of the #synystergatesschool riff challenge. I was challenged by @idssdi to step outside my straight rock box and learn something with GROOVE. He assigned me “Vibrato” by the inimitable @paulgilbert_official. The notes are simple. The groove, not so much. Star

NEW FORUM CATEGORY ADDED "THIS MEANS WAR"

LOVE IT! I'll be out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday, but can't wait to dive into a LOT when I return. I don't think I'll start the blues master class (which I am REALLY excited for) until the New Year, as I will be out of town for about two weeks for Christmas.

Something about the new song I made

Great stuff Sayonil! I always love your playing. FEEDBACK=personal opinion. 1. Drums too quiet. That kick and snare should cut clearly through everything 2. Rhythm guitar needs "air" - it sounds muffled. EQ a + into somewhere in the 4-8k range to take the guitar out of the box it's in. 3. I...

Practicing with a metronome vs practicing with a song?

I have a strict regimen of exercises I do with the metronome every day (mostly) and then I focus on PLAYING, if I still have time available. All work and no play makes Jak a dull girl. All work and no play makes Jak a dull girl. All work and no play makes Jak a dull girl. All work and no play...

Killer tone, and super-tight playing. This is fucking AWESOME, brother!

Black it is. Store site is timing out a lot, so it would seem folks be buying lots of shit - always a good thing! Now let's see how long it takes them to get here. And then, there's the long wait until I can motivate my ass to fire up the soldering gun...

Recording distorted sounds with your Pc

No, you can definitely use only the cab emulation part of it, and to keep your own tone through the amp, that's what you'd want to do.

How many times have you seen A7X live?

Not entirely sure. Definitely at least once on each of white album, Nightmare, and HttK. So at least 3 times, probably 4, because I think it was twice on at least one of those tours. I had tix for The Stage in Phx, but that was a few days after Matt's voice ducked out, so I missed it. I had...

If you want to take this song further, I'd recommend playing it from the 5th position, not open. It just seems to work better that way.

    Carvin 100 watt amp pedal

I read about this! It actually does have a 100w solid state amp built into the pedal. I believe you could plug into this and run the output to a speaker cabinet and make rock guitar sound. Interesting concept, eh?

Recording distorted sounds with your Pc

The other possibility is that your USB output doesn't emulate a cabinet. Cab emulation is a HUGE part of a dirty tone, and without it, the tone can definitely sound how you describe. There are a number of free options out there so you can experiment and see if that's the problem. Start with this...

For those who haven't looked, this is for EVERYTHING on the site. I'm probably going to finally go for that set of Syn pickups. $90 off is NEVER A BAD THING. The real question is, chrome or black. Here's the axe in question:

    Guitar Upgrades

Not familiar with Babicz, so I can't comment. The Hipshot bridges are really nice. The Contour looks like the right one for your fretboard profile, but be VERY careful and measurey before you buy - filling and drilling new post holes is dangerous work. The Contour is built for posts 2.22 inches...

    Intonation and drop tuning

Oh wait, you SAID it! Fender Strat. With the trem. So with a trem - any of them - it's NEVER as simple as retuning one string to change tunings. The minute you retune one string to a different pitch, you change the overall tension on the top part of the bridge. You need to retune the whole...

    Intonation and drop tuning

Your intonation is not the problem. AT ALL. I promise. If it's a guitar with a trem, that's your problem. So, which guitar are we working with and what kind of bridge is it?

Oh, it was DEFINITELY out! Like I said, right at this tempo, for some reason, I struggled with hand sync. I will be working on learning this song better, for sure.
