    Bass Run For 'Purgatory'

Maybe under the first part of the solo, too? I mean, I don’t KNOW if either would sound better than what you’re doing, but if it was my song, I’d want to try it and see what everyone in the band or studio thought.

    Bass Run For 'Purgatory'

I’m thinking at least part of the verses, so :25, 1:13, and 1:56, and a couple others maybe. Especially if Holly’s doing faster or busier vocals there. Maybe start more minimalist and as you get to the 3rd or a later verse, add a little bit more back in then?

    Bass Run For 'Purgatory'

Sounds awesome, but if you’re asking for honest feedback, there’s a few places where the guitar is busy, and I just wanted the bass to lock in with the drums and start going WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP along with the kick and snare instead of keeping up with the guitar. That all comes down to...

MY FIRST ORIGINAL SONG! what you think?

Dude, this is KILLER. I love it, and it may be stuck in my head even though I have no idea what’s being said. I will offer some constructive criticism of your mix – the vocal (especially in the beginning, but overall) needs to be punched up a little louder, BEFORE you master. Has a bit of an...

Self-taught. Use pinky for muting and/or occasionally anchoring.

    Stereo recording

It’s more for when you’re doing a multi-track recording, like when you’re recording a song with full instrumentation, multiple guitars, etc.

    Stereo recording

nice tone, and a sweet riff, Dan. Is that yours?
  8. Ed Seith

    Stereo recording

Yeah, if I had to guess, you’re recording stereo tracks, but only using one input, which defaults to left side input. Switching to two mono tracks and then panning left and right should work properly.

Who recommends learning solos with little to no effects?

Depends. For one, I don’t consider distortion (or amp gain, in my case) to be an “effect.” It’s a core component of the tone. When I say I would learn something “without effects,” I would generally mean “using my standard rhythm or lead tone,” which includes small amounts of delay and reverb –...

Can we spread some love for Syn?

The power of vintage Bon Jovi is irrefutable.

Can we spread some love for Syn?

It’s funny, but he’s been here, interacting with us like a regular human enough that it’s easier to forget that he’s SEEN A MILLION FACES, AND ROCKED THEM ALL. That he’s a platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated artist. This is a dude that can sell out stadiums, and in addition to starting and owning...

    papa gates

I don’t know of any traditional “bands” he’s been in. I know he did a lot of studio and session work in The Olden Times, even with Frank Zappa. 90s and 00s kids would know him as “Guitar Guy,” a guitar playing comedian who toured extensively with ventriloquist Jeff Dunham. He is currently out on...

    string noise

There’s an art to muting the strings you’re not using, and making it second nature (part of the unconscious mechanics of your playing). For higher/thinner strings, you can use the flesh of your fretting fingers. In this case, the #1/pointer finger can gently touch the G string to dampen it when...

    I Have A Idea!! (I Think)

Syn’s whole idea was that those who were doing the leading here (like Jak, Hector, etc) could use the site as a springboard to their own teaching or sharing efforts. Consolidating that all into on place would eliminate that possibility, so I suspect The Man and The Man’s Dad would be opposed to it.

    P4:HAIL STAN

I’m not crazy about Blood Eagle. When they stray too far into Meshuggah territory, it’s outside my personal taste. Garden of the Bones is awesome, though. Funny, I just had CLEAR on today in the car, with the top down, and that segued into Juggernaut, and I was enjoying that nicely.

Nice! I have to admit, I got a kick out of the live human in the background totally ignoring you. I actually have an idea for something like this I’m going to start instagramming soon. I’ll let you know once I start, and y’all can bandwagon with a hashtag!
