Seize the Day Solo Lesson anyone?

I just posted my take on the Seize the Day solo to my Instagram #metalminute hashtag. I had to put the new Air Norton S humbucker I dropped in the neck position yesterday to the test. AWESOME sounding!

Synyster Gates School Report Project (Jak's June Contest)

It may not be, Calvin. We have other creative, torturous types here than Jak. I’ll see what I can come up with for August, maybe.

    ***NEW CONTEST FOR JUNE!!***

***** WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT ***** This was HARD. So many great entries. So many stories. So much baring of the soul and emotion and vulnerability. Some of you really put yourselves out there, and I can only imagine how scary that must have been. I loved all of your words. I watched many of your...

    My journey with Avenged Sevenfold.

For me, it was around 2004. I’d slacked off on playing guitar maybe about 5 years earlier. The state of music wasn’t impressing me. A friend’s younger son – one of two boys who I was kind of a surrogate father to, since their own was never there – started telling me I *HAD* to listen to this new...

What are you currently listening to?

The drummer, Brian, would LOVE that comparison! Here’s the video they put out to promo the new album.

Synyster Gates School Report Project (Jak's June Contest)

Hi all. I’ve just finished reading all of these wonderful testimonies, and there are a few things I wanted to share with some of you; just thoughts I had while reading and watching your RIFFS. First, y’all have no concept of what a “half page” is. Lol. Second, I need to spend more time in the...

Question About Tuning Guitars With Floating Bridges

There’s a trick to it. I’ll do a video next time I change strings on one of my Floydies. Thanks for the love! Glad you found it interesting!

    No, no additional license needed.

How to record drums on reaper and do I need a license to export the song

An electronic kit you should be able to record the MIDI to a laptop with Reaper installed on it, then export the MIDI, move it over to your main PC and then use a plugin to re-render the drums. No mics, no interface, just a USB or MIDI cable, I would think.

What are you currently listening to?

I’m listening to some old friends and bandmates today. This is the guitar player and drummer I was playing with in the “baby pictures” video in my riffs section. I wind up proofing their mixes and helping with arrangements a little, but they do an awesome job, and these are KILLER songs. This...

    Help me pick a guitar!!!

Ibanez six strings are great. I don’t know what your budget is, but they run the gamut there, from the Gio entry models that are around $100-200 US all the way up to the Prestige and J Customs that can run several thousand. I find the best bang for the buck with Ibanez is usually nowadays in the...

Who/what inspired you to play guitar?

@calvin – you only get it “right” once. Everything before that is learning what is and isn’t “right.”

Who/what inspired you to play guitar?

@anna, it amazes me that Keef is still alive. Back in the 80s we all thought he was already on death’s door, and here he is in 2019… Same with Ozzy, Motley Crue, etc… Amazing. Dio is dead, but Ozzy lives.

Who/what inspired you to play guitar?

There were a bunch, and I’m not young. Mark Knopfler, Randy Rhoads, Warren DeMartini from Ratt, and Steve/Phil (and Pete!) from Def Leppard, back when they were awesome. Lots more came after I started playing, but those were the guys that really got me wanting a guitar. The ones that really KEPT...

Some Advice In Life I'd Like to Share

Those who never stray from the crowd never change the world. One of the great benefits of teaching someone what you know is how much you learn. Great story, Jak!
