Thank you so much, Jak. You have inspired me so much. I actually finally tore my fingers open a little and had them peeling. I am glad that you enjoy me as I really am. I thought it was important and would pack more of a punch if I allowed myself to really be myself. I LOVE YOU TOO. VERY MUCH.
I’m doing my best to stay the way I am. I think it’s crucial to watch and learn and draw from your favorite musician’s well, but at the same time do not become them or their doppelganger. Again, I apologize that it took so long. I was still trying to think about what to post and working on that chord progression.
I would love to join a punk rock band, but sadly I don’t have anyone at the moment. So I have mostly been trying to work on myself and lyrics and try to just keep improving. Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate it. That’s the first really lead thing I’ve been trying to create, so that’s very helpful. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Rowan, truly beautiful video, you had me holding back tears. Life may be stressfull and hard, I’ve had my own share of bad times. But something us living beings do is come together in our moments of suffering, and help each other out. I may not be the most skilled guitarist and god knows I don’t practice enough, but i felt what you said because I still try and help out others on their journey with the little I know. And there’s no one in this school that has put that into words any better than you.
About your playing: that’s a nice chord progression, I’d like to see what you use it for in your music! About the lead, also very interesting! I feel like you could be type of person that could put all your feelings into an expressive solo. We may not have the hands of shredding gods but we still have our hearts!
Look forward to seeing more from you when you feel okay to film. And should you ever need help dealing with something, the community and I are only a message away!

Rod, thank you so very much for taking the time to leave me such a pleasant comment. Thank you so very much for the kind words. I am sorry I nearly made you cry, but at the same time I am glad it was relatable and very real.
Thank you! I am really glad to see that you all enjoyed this more than I thought. I tend to put all of my feelings into lyrics that I write and it feels like I’m starting to do it with my guitar playing as well. I agree. We do not have the hands of shredding gods YET, but we will soon have them to add to our hearts. 🙂
Thank you so much again for your support. I cannot thank this community enough for all the kindness and love that I have seen. I am hoping that I will be able to show more soon. Especially since I’ve started working on Chapter Four.

I’m in. Sounds like a great idea. I don’t participate as much as I’d like to and haven’t posted any riffs yet either. Good way to force me to throw something together.
And Rowan, catchy chord progression. Still humming it in my head while typing this. Also, the lead had an interesting sound. Would love to hear the finished product.
Love how raw and open you were. Just wanted to reach in and give you a big bear hug to let you know everything will be ok. Also, your speech is what made me want to jump in on Jak’s idea.

Rowan that was an awesome video. Besides that nice riff there, whatever you said was so real!!! Anybody watching can feel that those words were coming straight from the heart, no filters, nothing else…just pure emotion. That is much appreciated, it truly is. Keep slaying Rowan.

I keep checking up on this forum daily and I am so happy that this forum is going in the direction and accomplishing what I hoped it would. People giving feedback, learning about other students, overcoming fears, letting their true selves shine… it’s all amazing!!! I eagerly await to see what Ids does!

Ya Jak, sometimes it surprises me actually what this forum means to everyone. I have been to other forums on various topics but have never seen something like this. Hope this goes like this. How lucky I was to discover a7x on youtube to eventually see and appreciate all of these.

Thank you, Juan! Thank you, Sayonil!
I am very eager to turn it into something powerful that I can share with all of you.
I know we are all probably far apart, but each of your words have reached me and truly do feel like hugs. I feel very comforted and supported, and appreciate each of you taking the time. I’m glad I could kind of encourage you to come join us, Juan. 🙂 I hope I get to see a riff from you soon. Even if it’s just you practicing.
Jak, I’m very impressed with this forum. You truly had a nice idea. And all these wonderful people are really turning it into something truly special. Tbh, I wasn’t expecting it to turn into this. It blew my expectations away.

    Hello there, Rowan!
I hope this community can help you feel better, because people here really care about others.
I really like that punk riff that you played first. A lot of feeling and attitude!!
And as Rod said, you dont need to shred as a pro. If you can share your passion and feeling through your playing, speed it is not that important.
I hope to see more of your stuff here on the website! Nice guitar and cabinet btw haha.
    EVERYONE!
i was thinking about Ids now. Will he upload his video in this same very topic or is it better for him to create a new one just not to mix everything?
I really like this idea that Jak had. I think that this tips comments will help a lot of people.
    Take care everyone!!

Very inspiring and true to the heart! Hope you are doing okay, im new to this forum and I don’t think I have ever seen such positivety and love for fellow members of a forum. Guitar has helped me through so many rough times, being able to express yourself in a manor other than words is incredible, there is nothing I love more than guitar and music. Do what you love no matter what people try to tell you, listen to your heart, noone can tell you what to do with your life or assume what will make you happy, follow your dreams the best you can!

I’m new to this forum (literally joined less than an hour ago) and, strictly speaking, not a guitar player (though I play guitar too). So far, it looks like you all are very supportive of each other. That’s a really wonderful thing. You know the old joke: How many guitar players does it take to change a lightbulb? 5. One to change the lightbulb and 4 to stand around, with their arms crossed, saying, “I could do it better”. You guys are breaking that stereotype.
Mostly I play 7 string basses. I do some things on my basses that I see very few bass players do and never see guitar players do. I can’t wait to share some of those things. I mean, why should I be the only one having this much fun?
Oh, and Rowan… Keep on keeping on! Music can help you deal with things and express yourself in very unique ways.

Your finger picking is pretty good. I don’t think your pinky is that important when finger picking. I don’t think classical players use their pinky either, and they’re pretty strict when it comes to form etc. When I finger pick, sometimes I use my ring finger and sometimes I don’t. Just remember, as long as it works for you and you’re comfortable…JAM AWAY MY FRIEND!

I think my favorite thing about this video is the dynamics you created with your fingers. Sometimes there was a loud popping sound and sometimes it was very smooth and buttery. It had great dynamics! To answer your question about using your pinky, classical guitar players actually use it a little bit more than what people think but it’s mostly for flamenco and Spanish-style stuff. It’s mostly popular in the rasgueado technique 😊

Thanks Jak! I consider dynamics pretty fundamental to any kind of thing you’re playing so that means a lot!
I do like classical stuff but I have absolutely no idea what the rasgueado Technique is 😅 I think I’ll have to look that one up😅

Pinkies are also used in hybrid picking styles (check Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, etc…). The way I would practice is by picking a classical song and play it with a pick as my thumb and instead of 1st finger, middle finger, ring finger, I would use middle finger, ring finger, & pinky. It’s hard to master and if you slack off of it for even a little while, you slip backwards, but the payoff is huge.
