Someone was asking about the first song people wrote a while back...

BROO imagine seeing a dude with majestic hair holding an acoustic guitar walk towards you in front of a sunset looking like hes about to flex his gold, frankincense and myrrh given to him by three wise men.
I know exactly who you are on about.

Your hair is good, but not this good, Ed!

@Ed Seith I remember a while back you saying you opened up for BOC, was it with this band?

It was, but this demo was done very early, and opening for BOC was later; maybe two years later. This demo would have been done in mid-1994, and I think the BOC gig was mid-1996 maybe? Much foggier on the date of the gig than the demo, but there was some mileage in there.

How was the show, if you remember, :)

Not great. Huge crowd. It was at Birch Hill Night Club in Old Bridge, New Jersey, which is gone now (like so many of the best clubs from BACK IN THE DAY). It was packed, which meant around 2,500 people, but before the set, we got our asses handed to us by BOC's road crew. They set up their gear, including keyboards and mic stands and everything, exactly where they would be for the show - which was ALL OVER THE STAGE. We had to set up around them, and were told in no uncertain terms that if ANYTHING was touched AT ALL, our sound would be cut immediately and we'd be escorted out.

So here we were, playing for our biggest crowd ever, and we pretty much had to just stand in our assigned spots and play. No running around the stage (which was my thing), no flamboyance, no.... Anything, but play and go home. It was memorable for how big an opportunity we didn't really get to have from it. Oh well.

Assuming YOU were "Brian West?" What was with the stage name? Is there a story? Love the gold record. That's awesome!
Record company didn't like Haner. They said people would mispronounce it. (long a or short a) This was back in the days when people changed their names. John Cougar, etc. So I offered up my mom's maiden name which was West. They liked it and the rest is history. Wish I would have just said no. I was 20 and didn't know you could say no. Should have gone with Brian Haner Melloncamp.

As if it really would have been a big deal if someone said "Hanner?"
