Talent show this coming Friday

My friends and I are playing Lost by A7X (check out the video of us playing it on my profile) for the talent show this coming Friday and I’m pumped. I’m not too nervous and I think it will go well but I just wanted to hear what some of you more experienced people have to say about preparing for gigs and shows and stuff. Thanks a bunch

I usually just check my cables. Of I have the time to do so I’ll also change my strings a couple days before. I’m home that’s all done I basically play through the setlist a couple of times. Ooh yeah and make sure you’re on time. It’s better to be way to early than having to rush to get there on time.

Don’t change your strings before the gig – have an hour of practice at least between string change and gig.
If anything uses batteries – pedals, wireless, etc. Use fresh ones or KNOW they are “near-fresh.”
Know who starts all the songs on the setlist, and HOW they are started (4-count on the high hat, etc). Practices leading up to the gig should be practicing the gig, including between-song conversations, intros , etc. This is IMPORTANT until you get CRAZY comfy as a band being looser.
All stringed instruments should get a final tuning check at the closest moment to going on as possible. Make sure everyone tunes the same way – if guitarist A uses “sweetened” tuning, make sure other guitars and bass do, as well.
At the gig, ALWAYS make sure you or someone you trust implicitly has an eye on the gear AT ALL TIMES. Keep your band’s gear together in one place.

And when you go on – free your mind and enjoy the moment. It is fleeting. Be in it and around it, and enjoy yourself, while still being mindful to play properly, SMILE, and make eye contact with at least a few people watching. When you fuck up, worry about it LATER – move on and continue enjoying.
