libad5343.net - Marketing Campaign or ????

So there's a LOT of speculation that the "hack" of the band a couple days ago carried out by Reddit user "libad5343" is actually the start of a marketing campaign for the new album and/or single.

It looks very likely to be true (though, it should be said, if it is, the guys ain't telling us - this is as much news to me as anyone)

There's the website: libad5343.net - this website was only registered on February 16th, right before Syn made a cryptic post saying "The point of it all is to beat the game"

There are, scattered in hidden places, references to a number of science fiction IPs - 2001, Blade Runner, Jurassic Park, etc.

LIBAD could mean "Life is But a Dream."

And on the Discord, the mods have compiled a handy doc to bring folks up to speed. There is much to still be unconvered.

What say you, peeps?

  • Question
A Few Glitches

I didn't know how to do the "BUG" prefix because it wasn't showing up on three topics I tried to post this under. When I try to utilize the lesson videos, I no longer can click and drag to highlight an area to put on repeat to practice. And even when I click on the area and hit "play", it starts at the beginning. I try to click on a different section further in, but it doesn't take me further. This was experienced on the CAGED Lesson C Shape.

Also, I clicked to post this on General School Questions but when I looked at my prefixes I can choose from it's for the category "Instruments, Hardware and Setup & Troubleshooting."

Thanks team!

Cool cheap portable practice amp (>$30)

Just wanted to share this little practice amp I got today. It’s portable, uses a USB C cable to charge or power. So you can take it with anywhere and use it without a power outlet.

Less than $30, and ships internationally. Ordered from AliExpress and ships from China. Took maybe 2 weeks or less to the USA. I have a small Blackstar Fly amp and I find this new one to have a tone that I like better

- 2 Channels (Clean and Overdriven)
- Portable (rechargable, no batteries)
- Bluetooth in to jam along with songs from your phone
- Aux In
- Headphone out for silent practicing

You can look around on AliExpress and find different companies and sellers of the same product. I think Joyo makes one too. I think they also make one for bass.

Custom Bogner Amp used on CoE, Self Titled, and more AMA

Hey everyone, I wanted to start a thread about an amp that is very special and likely isn't very well known. I'm lucky enough to own a prototype/custom Bogner amplifier that was used on the recordings of City of Evil, Self Titled, and Diamonds In The Rough. It may have been used on some other Avenged things as well, but I can't entirely say. If you have any questions about this amp, please ask away.

I bought this amp earlier this year from Fred Archambault, who engineered Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold, Diamonds In The Rough, and Nightmare. Fred told me that this amp was blended with an Uberschall (and possibly other amps depending on the period) to get a lot of the tones on their records. This amp has 2 sisters. One is the original which is owned by Reinhold Bogner and is kept at Bogner's shop in North Hollywood, and the other is owned by producer Mudrock, who produced Waking The Fallen and City of Evil. Fred sold it because he primarily uses a Kemper in the studio now, and he knew that I would take good care of it. This amp was used on almost everything that Fred has worked on up until this point, including Atreyu, Alice Cooper, Nonpoint, and many more.

Here's the story of this amp that I've concluded after talking to Fred and Reinhold Bogner:

This amp is often referred to as the "Caveman" although if you google Bogner Caveman, you'll see a completely different amp. Bogner came out with an official Caveman for a short period of time before discontinuing it. However, this amp may predate that one and is entirely different. It's nicknamed the "Caveman" because the original amp that Reinhold made had hieroglyphs and symbols on the control panel of the amp rather than traditional letters and clear markings. The amp was a one off that Reinhold made and sat in Bogner's shop. Bogner would allow some record producers and their teams to borrow some of the amps at the shop to use on records, this one being one of them. Apparently, this thing was used a lot and was always being borrowed, which prompted Mudrock to request his own to be made. The problem was, Reinhold didn't really remember how he made the original amp, which is why it took a while for Mudrock to get his own. Bogner pretty much had to reverse engineer it, which gives some slight electrical variances to the other 2 made. Mudrock eventually received his around the time of City of Evil. Fred's came slightly later, or possibly a similar time, when he was at Bogner's shop and noticed the amp's chasis on the bench. When Fred asked Reinhold what it was, he told him and offered to him when it was completed.

Fred thinks that this amp was Bogner's version of a Dumble amp, although that isn't confirmed. Sonically the qualities that stick out the most to me are the unique gain structure, unique midrange, and unique attack this amp has. There's only one channel, it's a relatively primitive amp in terms of features. The amp doesn't really get clean, at about 9 o'clock it's already a bit distorted and lightly crunchy. To get high gain that I like, I set it around 3 o'clock. No one knows how many watts it is, Reinhold guesses about 140. The serial number on the back is "Mudrock 2 for Fred".

Apparently, Rick Rubin's team would borrow this amp and it was the main tone on Slipknot's Vol. 3 record.

Hope this all made some sense. Again, please ask anything you'd like to know about it.

Wanting to create a song

Hey everyone!
For the first time ever, I am actually committing to try and write my own song. During the month of February there is something happening called the RPM Challenge (Record production month). Basically it’s challenging you to write a song or an album! So it’s the perfect time to create!
I feel as if I’m ready! I have the desire! I’m right on the front porch! I just can’t seem to open that door and take my first couple steps into the world of writing.
If anyone has any kind of tips they would like to share, I would love to hear them! ✌🏻

Guitar Schecter Custom S (Tunning)

Hello Synners!

My dream guitar just arrived yesterday "Schecter Custom S"

I have never tuned a Floyd Rose before, I previously owned Ibanez GRG170DX but the tunning is so different here with the Schecter. Is there any video or Tutorial out there how to Tune a Schecter Custom S?

PS: The strings are far from the Neck, like a Classical guitar :D

Thank you guys.

Lost passion

Hey Synners. Long time no see! I’ve been absent lately because life, but I digress. I need help, and I feel my fellow Synners may be able to help me. I used to be so passionate about making music, I always wanted to play my guitar, I wanted to learn everything about it.

Lately though, I have found that the pressure to be great is… too great to have my passion thrive. I feel as though my skills aren’t where they should be after 15 years of playing, which is not helping my case.

The long and the short of it is this: have you ever lost your passion for something? If so, how did you find it again?.

Happy Synning and thank you for your help <3

Most Epic Song Ever?

Sup, Synners. Haven't logged into this site in awhile cause the videos aren't working, but I just discovered possibly the most epic song of all time and decided to come to the group that would truly appreciate it.

The A7X song exist off The Stage was one I hadn't given the time to until recently. When I finally listened to it, though, it actually stunned me. With the chaotic intro, Gilmour-esque solo, and the outro with Neil de Grasse Tyson, it felt very grand and epic. I especially love the end with Tyson's speech. Now, I listen to the song everyday and it's in my top 20 for sure.

Anyway, just needed to share this with someone.

Love the album but not the band - discussion

Tell me about a long-time musician or band where you love one album and really don't care for anything else they've done. Not a band with only one or two albums, but a nice collection of work, but you only like one album.

I'll go first - I love Slipknot's Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses, and think almost everything else they've done is kinda meh.

How about you?

“Musician’s Ear”

So I just listened to a song I haven’t listened to forever Animal I have Become by Three Day Grace but something was wrong with it. It sounded different, not necessarily in a bad way but I heard things that I didn’t hear before. I think I really developed that “musician’s ear” and I could really hear every instrument, layer of Adam’s vocals like with harmonies and such. So many things and I thought I’d share with y’all. Did anyone else have an experience like this?

Chord Parallels

I am a practicing musician but would like to share something that I found very interesting.

Chord Parallels: A sequence of Chords consisting of intervals that do not change as the chord changes.

In standard tuning on the guitar, chord parallels use only the 3rd (G), 2nd (B), and 1st (E) strings.

In a major key, the order of the parallels is F, E, and D shapes. The image shows an A bar chord played at the 5th position. At the 5th position is the F shape. The 7th position is the E shape. The 9th position is the D shape. (Don't let the shapes throw you off just yet, you will see soon.)

a_bar_f_position.png

You may play these parallel shapes when this chord is played to give it flavor. You may also throw the shapes in while playing a solo to give it some real charm.

Shapes move with the chords! This means you may play the same shapes anywhere on the neck, they do not change. Now a brief description playing in a minor key. The shapes will change. We will start with E, then D, And finally Dm. The image below shows an Am at the 5th fret. E is the first shape played at the 5th fret. D is the second shape played at the 7th fret. Dm will be the last shape and your 1st finger will be at the 8th fret.

Am_bar_E_position.png

There is a little change between the major and minor positions and shapes. I recommend getting comfortable with one before you move to the second. Below is an image of the Dm shape on the Am bar chord.

Am_bar_Dm_position.png

Note: I am not good at music notation, but I drew something up to give you an idea of what I am talking about, and how it works.

I created a couple of images for example purposes. I use A, D, and E major chords to play something of a blues groove. If you move the shapes to the location of the power chord being played it will sound fantastic.

The first image shows the shapes for the Chord Parallels. It also shows a major chord progression using the A, D, and E chords.

chord_parallel_major_song.png

This image shows the chord parallels instead of the chords being played. This is just an example of a way to play it, so have fun. These images are here to give a little more clarity on the use of chord parallels.

Chord_parallel_modify.png

Remember this is a new concept for me, so I am just getting my fingers wet. If you have more helpful information please share it with the community.

So what can you do with chord parallels?
1) make a very boring chord progression sound spicy!
2) You do not have to go back to the first part of the progression with the parallels. Play with it and see what works for you. Add some real flavor to that 8-count with one chord.
3) if you are playing a major chord scale, mix in the major chord parallels to add a real touch of color to the lead.
4) The same holds for a minor scale, just use the appropriate minor parallels.
5) If you are moving your scales to different positions as you play add in the parallels to give it some real charm.

Work with it and see if you have any issues. If you have some more information you would like to sprinkle in, please do. This is a new concept for me that I am going to work on and try to incorporate with some lead playing as well.

Remember Major: F, E, and D shapes.
Minor: E, D, and Dm shapes.
