How about creating some progress videos for next year? : )

Hey everybody, would you be interested making some progress videos for next year? Pick any etude or etudes, record yourself playing it in the bpm you are able to, upload it, practice it through the year and the end of 2022 (or anytime you want) upload a new one showing how much better you become... so we can all clap and be jealous of each other : D

Any thoughts? : )

2 Days Left For Secret Santa!

Don't forget Synners, Santa has told me he's been watching this school and he read all the stories shared. BUT.... if you need to know, there's only TWO DAYS LEFT for a Synner to receive a gift from the new launch!

Play A Song 100 Times?

Hey everyone! I was just curious if any of you have heard of the "play a song 100 times to get it performance ready" idea. I have found it really helpful that instead of bouncing around from song to song, and trying to learn 10 songs at once, I focus on one song, learn it, and play it 100 times before I move on to the next one. It's really allowed me to calm myself down, feel the beat of the song, truly sit in it and get comfortable, and improve my technique.

For example, I'm learning Enter Sandman right now, and I played it pretty well about 15 times, but it wasn't until the 22nd time that I was like "Wait, I HEAR something now I'm leaving out! I'm gonna go back, delve into it, and learn it!"

Right now I'm working it up to 50 times sitting down, and then I'm gonna play it 50 times standing up.

Have you tried this before? It really has helped me not have to think about the song, and my muscles know what to do automatically, and I also don't have to worry about how long I've actually practiced it.

PS: I'm making molasses cookies for @megalizzie 's performance tonight. :)

  • Question
Please Tell Me You Hear This Too!

I know it's SOOO random but I'm learning this song and I went to go search this video for James' finger positioning and I about peed my pants laughing so hard at 2:08. I thought James decided to go all Justin Hawkins and hit a wild note. But it's Kirk's fucking vibrato! I wasn't watching the video, I was watching my hands on the neck and it was the most epic knee-jerk reaction I've ever had :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Morning Brew interview with Syn & Matt (NFT’s)

I stumbled upon this interview with Syn and Matt discussing NFT’s, their utility of the band, and the future etc,

I know in other A7X based outlets like discord and Reddit there has been quite a divide and that is NOT what this discussion is about, so let’s keep it chill and educational y’all.

I personally do not own any NFT’s, I’ve read up on them and crypto currency and I LOVE the real world utility that A7X is offering their fans, but I personally am still on the fence because I’m an old biddy who does shit on her terms hahaha. Jk, kind of….

I know many of you guys just minted and got some fucking amazing art (yeah, I peep the discord 😎)

Share them with us !

Did you get a rare one ?

What got you into them? Was it strictly because of A7X?

What advice would you give to anyone interested but weary and unsure where to start?

2021 in review

As we close into another year or music, we look back over this year. The first half of the year we pretty busy for me. I had a ton of material to go over, rerecord and get out. Remix.. etc. In the end I ended up recording and releasing 4 new albums this year.

In the beginning of the year the sound and mix quality was ok, but got dramatically better as the year went on. It's to a point now where I'm ready to go BACK and do all my songs over again. But, I am going to leave that for now. I may do a best of series, with plug and unplugged versions of my favourite songs but again am unsure when that will actually happen.
Brutality:
This was written in 2020 and I believe the first version of the album too. But the real recordings came out in 2021. An album full of angst and emotion as my friendships belitttled into nothing. The theory behind most of these songs are edgy but the structure was pretty damn good IMO. I also was very happy with the overall feel but the songs were still longer. 180 BPM will do that to you. As the album goes on it gets softer and becomes more rock songs near the end.
Centzless:
These were essentially the first songs I wrote with my newer guitars in 2020 but were songs I figured would become a lost soul due to thief stealing my guitars and accessories. Once I repurchased what I lost, the album came back to life. I used the ORIGIONAL recordings for some songs and added to them. This is where the jazz influences started to come out. The album finishes off with some bangers before the finale full despair.
True View:
More blues/jazz influences are visible in this set of songs. The songs get longer again, but they all tell a story. The title track is the best one IMO. These were the first to be written in 2021, although a couple were carried over. Again, original recordings used and added to. I'll be honest too, some of these songs I would have to legit relearn. This is where the improv solos began.
No Centz At All:
My first visit to 240 bpm. I haven't really left. This entire album is a banger to me. I cant get over how good the songs flow, even if the mixing isnt 100%. They were loud enough but not clear enough. The tone got much better too overall. Some of my best work is in there.
What's in store for 2022? I have a new album that needs tweaks before release. I was going to release it this month, but i'm gonna hold off til the new year. These songs are even better then no centz at all. Things seem to be going up and up.
For the rest of December, keep an eye out as I restring my guitars and will be playing some of my favourite riffs and songs from 2021. You'll be able to see them here youtube and instagram.
I also have new projects on the way with familiar faces. The song writing has been going pretty good. Getting easier and easier. Stay tuned!

This was a blog I posted on reverbnation and figured I'd share it here. In the beginning of the year (I just saw the thread in the related threads when I posted this) we had goals, I'm curious to see who surpassed their goals, and maybe achieved more.

For me, I do not believe I recorded anything with another person but myself. I want that to change in 2022. My brother and me are gonna probably start something up once we move in together (I haven't gone into detail on that yet but will soon). I also didn't end up really completing a song with my friend Ryan. We have restarted that project again, but well see if we actually get anywhere. But overall, I feel I achieved a LOT.

*my theory has DRAMATICALLLY improved. Not only can I write in keys now, I can play to a key and possibly follow chord changes depending on the chords in the song.
*I learned and memorized major and minor caged positions and have found root notes in those positions to be able to play to any chord I want. There are two key positions I found that make it really easy. I know syn says dont have favourites, but you gotta start somewhere.
*I learned the blues master class and jammed many new chords. Chords I never thought I would ever understand, or finger
*Along with caged knowledge, my sweeps became clean enough that you can hear the arpeggio I am playing. I am able to now sweep in the bpm of the song I play. I just cant sweep more then one loop at a time. So I usually sweep into a bend, vibrato.. etc.
*Do to the help of my caged knowledge, improving became much easier for me. I now find I dont write solos anymore, I improv them. and try to play what I improved. Sometimes this is a lot harder then I thought it would be. Usually I improv a solo in segments.. once I get a lick down.. I move onto the next one. And obviously if I dont like what I played, I redo that part. But I play the solo in whole when I do it.. its a long process usually takes a day to write the solo. and yes, 90% of the time I have to RELEARN IT.
*As stated in my blog, I wrote a TON of songs. I'll be reviewing my favourites for the last few weeks. Play some licks and riffs.. attempt solos I haven't tried ina while... If there are any songs you want me to go over, play.. explain.. etc. Speak up and I'll do my best to get the proper information to you in what I was doing.
*my biggest more exciting thing this year was finding rick beato's youtube channel. I find I refer there more these days then the lessons here. THere is nothing wrong with the lessons here, and the lessons here will teach you ev erything you need to know. But the beato book really opened my eyes and made things I couldn't understand in the lessons here crystal clear. I'm also a complicated guy and the way rick explains things is different then PG. PG does a great job dumbing down a complicated measure for you to understand in the beginning. He really pushed my theory knowledge in the right way when I first got here. And for that I am ever so grateful.

Okay, there are my key points to my success in 2021. We can go a step further here too if you'd like, and maybe state our 2022 goals as well. But for now, thats all I have to say for 2021. With so many new people here, it'll be interesting to see what our new memebrs have done this year before joining the school.

What pushed you to come here? Did you struggle and get a refer here? Or was it random? Or did you see an add and just come? Is the school helping you or helped you achieve your 2021 goals? Lets hear what you have to say.

Synner Christmas show on SynTv!

Hello everyone, hope you are all having a great day! ☺️

The holidays are coming and as such, one student decided to prepare a little treat for all of you! @megalizzie , being a trained violinist, came up to me with the idea of preparing a little Violin performance of Christmas music for all of you to come and enjoy!

It's gonna be tomorrow December 22nd at 18h EST!
She is open to any request you may have so leave your suggestions in this thread: https://synner.com/threads/whats-your-favorite-christmas-song.5913/

We'll start the show with a little talk so she can introduce herself and then after that, I'm gonna let Lizzie do her thing!
Come hang, it's gonna be awesome!

Also, don't forget to tune in later today to catch @Ed Seith showing us how to take care of a Floyd Rose!

Stay awesome

understanding intervals in any key - major and minor triads, sevenths etc...

Hello there, I really hope it will help some of you who are not familiar with this… it is a little brain exercise to figure out intervals. I had a very hard time following all those youtube lessons and basically every Rick Beato video, about theory, scales, chords and intervals, just because I was not able to do the math in my head. Knowing the 1 – 3 – 5 in any key, the chord tones etc… so I sat down with pen and paper, writing down the intervals in every possible way on fretboard and trying to figure out ways to know it instantly without guitar, without anything, just saying a note and come up with answers what is the major second? Minor second, fifths, sevenths etc… and how to figure it out fast without counting up and down the scale… and of course being able to play it on the guitar and use it in lead. so here is how I do it now… I hope it makes sense and that it will help.

So I want to know (almost) instantly the notes of any major or minor triad…

First thing to know is the formula 1 – 3 – 5 . It is the first, the third and the fifth note in the major scale. When it comes to major triads, major chords, it is always 1 – 3 – 5, you go to sleep it’s onethreefive, you get up in the middle of the night to pee it’s one.three.five… even when you eat your breakfast or walk your dog, it’s one. three. five. when you watch tv, it's One.Three.Five. It’s not One.Tree.Hill. It’s ONE.THREE.FIVE

Example:

The first is easy. It is the root note that you picked, let’s say A. This is the 1. The 1 is the root note.:

A

Now let’s find the major third of A. That is the 3.
It involves a bit of counting, but it gets easier and faster the more you do it.

One way you just go up to the third letter, let's say F is the root, go up F G A... A is the major third.
but if there are no sharps or flats between, then you sharpen the third note.. There are no notes between E - F and B - C. These are the only places. So if you the root is A, go up A B C, but because between B and C there is no note, sharpen the C, becomes C#, as the major third of A.

Take G as root, go up G A B... B is the major third.
Take B as root, go up B C D...again we have B and C here, there is no note between them, so sharpen the D, becomes D# as the major third of B.
Now E is the root, E F G... between E and F there is no note, so sharpen the G, becomes G#.
When D is the root, D E F.... between E and F there is no note, so sharpen the F, becomes F#.

Another way:

The first three notes of the major scale have 1 empty fret between them, so just leave out every second fret, and you can get to the major third in no time in your head… just imagine this picture that I stole from guitar pro 7:

1640039414962.png

So which is the major third?

A ? no, it is the Root
A# -is not in the scale
B ? no, it is major second
C – is not in the scale
C# - yeayeayea it is the major third. Command over. Semicolon.

It does not matter, which note you start on. In key of D, the root is D, the major third is F#.

1640039437521.png

D – is the Root
D# - is not in the scale
E – is the major second
F – is not in the scale
F# - is the major third

So just do this in your head next time on the bus, at work, before sleeping, under the shower, or while your drunk uncles are debating politics and solving all the major problems of the planet at a family dinner:

Pick a note, for example G.
G is the Root.
G# - Skip this note it is not in the scale
A is the major second.
A# - Skip this note it is not in the scale
B is the major third

Done, awesome, congrats, now be proud at yourself, then pick another note, and repeat until you can do this as fast as... I don’t know, very fast.
So now you know the 1 and the 3.

Now the fifth! Do we count up from the root? NO. Do we count down from the root? NO. Too far. Too much work, brains don’t like that, brains hurt then. Brains like easy patterns. Here is an easy pattern:

What is the fifth in A? In standard tuning what is the string above your A string? E. The fifth of A is E.
A – B – C# - D – E – F# - G# - A

1640039527809.png

What is the fifth in E? In standard tuning the string above the E is B. The fifth of E is B.
E
– F# - G# - A – B – C# - D# - E

What is the fifth in G? In standard tuning the string above the G is D. The fifth of G is D.
G – A – B – C – D – E – F# - G

What is the fifth of D? In standard tuning the string above the D is A. The fifth of D is A.
D – E – F# - G – A – B – C# - D

Now there is an exception, but easy to remember:

The string above the B string is the G string, but the fifth of B is not the G, it is one fret below, it is F#. So the fifth of B is F#... and if we go 1 fret up to C the fifth of C is G. Just remember this another beautiful picture.

1640039584894.png

So only the fifth of F left, which is a C. As a reference can be an F5 chord, or above the F note there is a C (except on G string).

These are all the fifths… if you sharpen a root, the fifth sharpens too: The fifth of G is D. The fifth of G# is D#

and if you flatten a root, the root goes flat too. The fifth of G is D. The fifth of Gb is Db

Now all the 1 – 3 – 5 can be figured out easily and fast with a little bit of mental exercise. Of course, like everything, it needs to be practiced a bit, but you can do this anytime anywhere… and you should! Because if someone runs up to you on the street and say he/she will kill you if you don’t tell immediately the onethreefive of the B, now you will be able to tell it and it can save your life. De nada

… and the major Seventh! It is the same like 1 – 3 – 5 , but add a 7 to that. 1 – 3 – 5 – 7 one.three.five.seven.

Where is the major seventh? 1 fret below the root. Always. Forever.

The major seventh of E is D#.

The major seventh of B is A#.

The major seventh of C is B.

The same applies to minor triads, minor chords… just flatten the 3 and 7, the fifth is the same.

1 – b3 – 5

1 – b3 – 5 – b7

The b3 of D is F. Again, remember this nice small pattern.

1640039807364.png

and the b7 is always 2 frets below the root.

The b7 of D is C.

The b7 of C is Bb.

etc.

Again, I really hope I managed to write this down clearly and that it will help.

Happy Holidays!

Have you forgotten how to play your instrument on stage? I have

The title pretty much says it all.

I wanted to share something that happened to me today because it honestly is something that I feel is worth sharing AND actually showing. So, today was the Christmas show at my school and I was set to play ''hey Jude'' with teachers on stage. I wanted to do it just for fun and because why not. I've been playing keyboard for 5 month, been singing as well and just wanted to go for it.

Okay so what actually happened? Well, I was stressing before I went on stage and started doubting myself a bit. And so, when I went in front of the keyboard and it was my time to play, I legit completely forgot what I was supposed to do. Not joking, I had a giant blank and I couldn't figure it out for a solid minute. So what was going in my head? Panic. Absolute panic. I wanted to check my phone to remember but it wasn't with me, it was actually filming this! I DID think about leaving the stage in shame but... nah not my thing. When everything goes wrong, the show must go on. We must find a way. Eventually I got around to starting it and we did the song and all was good.

But here's the kicker for you guys: as I mentioned, I was filming it! So here's the video.

Now a bit of context, this is in french of course because I live in a french speaking part of the world. The people alongside me on stage who are talking to me may seem like they are aggressive towards me by the way they speak BUT it was actually all part of a skit where I would come on stage and insult them and blablabla so just so you know, nobody was in any ways shape or form mad at me or anything. It's ALL good fun!

So at the end of the day, I just wanted to share this because, well, it happens! And honestly, hours after it happened, I am just laughing about it and I will practice more for the next performance.

It's all about having fun!

Plugins

Hey guys, i dont know if this was already talked about but how many people would be interested to see a Syn plugin? If the man @Syn Gates himself answered i would be stoked, but anyone is welcome to respond. I have been getting into the plugin world lately, and i know he has the cab packs for fractal and such. However is there any chance of say, a STL plugin or Neural DSP one you guys think? They have been putting out some amazing plugins lately. My favorite right now is the Neural Tim Henson one. I just think it would be really cool to have a pack/plugin with alot of syns personal and or favorite tones, without having to buy a pretty expensive fractal. Just my thoughts

Synner End of Year Survey

Hey everyone, since we've made a ton of changes to the Synner over the past year, we wanted to get your feedback on how happy you are with the site as it currently stands, what you want to see in the future, or any extra info you want to share! Any feedback is appreciated :)

You can fill out the survey here

Singer here, any others?

Hey there guys!
It was really awesome to see a drummer Post in here, so I decided to go ahead and put it out there that I am a singer! I guess I'm kind of fishing to see if there are any other singers on here. I am a metal singer mainly, but I do other singing too. I have done opera, I have done all kinds of crazy singing but Rock and metal are my main squeeze. If you are a singer, who are some of your influences?
Some of mine are Rob halford, Sebastian bach, Axl rose, Bradley delp, chuck Billy, m. Shadows, Russell allen, Ronnie James Dio, Jeff Scott Soto, Winston McCall, shagrath, Tobias, tommy shaw, and I have also been listening to dino jolousek a little bit and he's pretty good too for a newer artist.
Let me know who some of yours are if you are a singer!. And yes, I am in a band so if you are let me know what your band is.

The NEW Synner drop has landed! 🔥🤌

If y’all haven’t heard yet, the new Synner collection dropped yesterday in the store and SHEEEESH! It is next level! 🤯🔥

So many excellent pieces, which ones are you lot diggin on the most?? I think my favorite would have to be the “Death Defi Tee”. The contrast of the dye with the color pop of the smiley and back graphic are just perfection 🤌
