Tremelo picking and sudden starts

Ive been trying to work on my alternate picking technique but I cant get a consistent controlled result at high speeds. The big problem is I cant figure out what feels natural. Ive been playing for 11 years and it still feels alien. I cant find a hand position that allows for for relaxed yet small movements, the low E is the worst because I cant find a fixed pivot point so im making the alternate picking motion but the notes aren't sounding consistent.

I was also struggling with exercises at higher BPMs because I cant seem to go from 0- 70 bpm in the flick of a switch, it makes trying to practice scales also impossible, does anyone have tips for these issues?

Everyone can be a Synner!

Hey everyone!

So I wanted to share with you some slight changes we've made to the ''school'' section of the forums! As you all know, Synner is expanding it's scope. Music remains in the core DNA of Synner and so in an effort to welcome more people to come share their love, knowledge and experience of music, we've made these little adjustments.

First of all, we changed the name from: ''Guitars, Hardware and Setup, & Troubleshooting'' to ''Instruments, Hardware and Setup, & Troubleshooting''
This was done in an effort to make people come here an talk about the cool stuff that they have. Going from different types of drums and cymbals to Violin and Cellos... hell, I wanna hear about some fancy kazoo someone might have!

Next up, we added prefixes (see image below) to the thread creation in that section so that people can come and talk about what they are more knowledgeable and experienced about OR alternatively to ask question about that specific topic and invite experienced people to come and help!

Screen Shot 2021-12-13 at 12.50.40 PM.png

For a start, we decided to go with Guitar (of course), Bass (FINALLY), Vocals, Classical instruments and drums. More can and will be added as we expand even further!

These little changes have been made in an effort to really welcome everyone in this beautiful family. I believe I can now say affirmatively that we have grown past being a guitar exclusive forum and now instead focus on sharing experiences, knowledge and lessons that go above and beyond our wildest ambitions. This will I believe open doors for all of you to gain tools to reach YOUR goal.

Everyone can be a Synner!

Scales

I've been learn theory on synner.com and I have some questions about scales because that's mostly the main topic of the lessons I'm taking right now (CAGED system pt 1).
Now these questions are kinda stupid because I sometimes get distracted from the lesson and hate rewinding so now bear with me ;-:. So I wanted to know what's the use of scales in playing guitar? And how do you practice them? How do you figure out scales? In CAGED System pt 1 lessons we learn about the major and pentatonic scale of different chord shapes. What's the way of figuring out those scales like there could a formula or something?

I need to share this

I honest to God hoped I would never be part of this statistic and had always thought myself so lucky that, at twenty seven year old, I had never had a traumatising experience because of the actions of another human being. But here I am.

More than one in three women have experienced sexual violence in their life. I am now part of that group.

I thought I was just helping a neighbour living in my building. Before I realised what direction this was taking, he started asking questions about my living situation and relationships. Then he touched my hair. With this big red flag waving in my face I decided to bolt out the door, which he saw as an opportunity to grab my ass and compliment it. I ran up the stairs and basically into my neighbour. It wasn't until I talked to her that I realized what had happened. That I had been assaulted.

I spent the entirety of Wednesday scared to step outside my front door. I am still scared to be alone in my own damn apartment. Police have been informed, the landlord knows what happens, the people at college have been told. All the formal stuff that needed to be done is done and now I need to find a way to at least get to working on being normal again. Physically I am totally fine, but mentally I honestly don't know how I feel.

I am putting this out there because I need to talk about it and not keep it bottled up. Feel free to ask questions or reach out to me either in this thread or through DMs.

Can We Just REALLY Honor The Team Here??!!

Oh... my... God.

That stream was UNBELIEVABLE. Audentio, shit man I don't know how you did it. The clarity, the styling, the chat, it was INSANE.

And then the mods and community leader? Not to sound like a baby, but dumped out at the right time because there's no way in HELL I could have done what Radu did today. 😂😂 Rad man, you are an excellent host!

And the mod team? I can't even begin to imagine how much you all had to work to make this what it is. It's truly beyond me. I'm so thankful that I could sit back and enjoy it.

I love you guys. I really do. It was bigger and better than I ever could imagine. Thank you so much for all of your hard work.
And the CLOTHES??!! Thanks to Jamie for helping that to become a reality!!

Great work everyone, and thank you!!

Just A Personal Thought About The School Rebranding ...

I really hope I'm not opening up a can of worms but I really was thinking about it, because I was one of the many who felt this way and ever since Radu's recent thread, I've changed my views...A LOT.

*DISCLAIMER* I AM ONLY SPEAKING ABOUT HOW MY OWN PERSONAL THOUGHTS COULD NOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. I AM NOT SPEAKING ABOUT ANYONE ELSE'S THOUGHTS

Some students expressed their concern that this site has become "too much like social media now" and that's why they stopped engaging. Well, I USE to agree with that. But in my opinion, it couldn't be further from the truth.

On social media, we have endless, nonstop, annoying and badgering ads that we can't filter out. We have knee-jerk posts and horrible comment sections full of trolls that make secret accounts just to cause bullshit and stir the pot. Here, when we have assholes, the admins sweep that shit up and give a good ass smacking immediately. On virtually ALL social media platforms, it's "Sorry. We're gonna ban YOU because you don't like the bully we cater to." We see fake people shoving products in our faces, and rage-inducing news articles we have no control over if we see them or not.
A majority of free speech has been yanked from these platforms. And on social media, unless you pose in your lingerie or recently had a baby, no one cares about your posts. You can post up on FB "Hey guys! Finally got this dream guitar after years of hard work!" And if you're lucky to get any comments, it seems a majority will be gossiping behind your back in one way or another. Here? You can say "I passed my driver's test today!" And you'll get like 15 comments of people supporting you. It's insane

I remember I posted a long time ago about overcoming addictions and it opened up a whole line of people coming clean about their victories and battles. We all came together. That's not what social media does. Social media exists solely to tear you down from the inside out.

Also? Ever since my hiatus I took a LOT from many other online guitar schools. I won't say which ones, but as this place stands as a guitar school, this community has NO competition. It's hands down THE BEST. On other sites, you see students crying out for help and no one responds. It'll be swarming with activity but NO ONE NOTICES EACH OTHER. Here, we get noticed. We get heard. Sure we could all use a few more lessons, but we now know these AMAZING features ARE coming. I feel so blessed and so thankful.

Sometimes you gotta wander far from the barn to see how cozy your haybed really was. I'm glad I took a step away because now I see how awesome this new endeavor is really going to be.

Love the admin team. Love the students. Love Synner.

I should finally learn to play but..speed.

''Don't learn to play songs you can't play at 75% speed''
That is my own advice I'm trying to follow, it's a good way to avoid frustration and to finish learning a song while enjoying it.
I've always wanted to play Children of Bodom leads, they're simple but too fast. I looked through a list of similar songs and I found Sonata Arctica but I had to slow it down under 50%. (All those solo's are mainly scale and arpeggio runs.)
I'm a bit done with that so does anyone know baby versions of similar songs I could learn to build up? (Towards Canon rock eventually, someday, in a next life 🤡)

Anyone Care To Do A "Happy Holidays" Video?

Hey students!
I was looking at my old youtube videos from the school's first inception and I miss doing these fun little videos. Remember the testimonial video? Syn's birthday video? Those were a blast and I've noticed so many faces have come and gone, but now we have NEW faces, NEW students, and NEW stories that I'd love to share! If you'd like to be a part of a "Happy Holidays from the Synner Community" type of thing, PM me your email address and I'll let you know what to do. Let's make this fun!

Love,
Jak

Upgrade Updates!

Hey everyone, the new user upgrade plans are now live! You can see see details about this change here and you can see the updated plans here. These plans will help us support all of the amazing new features we're adding to the site and you are in no way at all required to get one if you don't want one. Anyone that currently has a Supporter upgrade will be getting the Legend upgrade for a year and anyone that currently has the Legend upgrade will be upgraded to Legend+ for a year. We'll also be offering a Day Ticket to SynTV if you'd like to take part in special event streams, but don't want to become a monthly or annual Legend+ member.

Some of the perks for the upgrades will be rolling in over the next few weeks as we get everything settled and we hope you're as excited for the new features as we are!

1-1 help

Hey guys ( I know what you are thinking "f**king hell, a new thread", apologies) over the past few months, despite using lots of different sources of information, I am really struggling with basic picking and hand placement. I have sunk loads into online courses and its always the cycle of:

Ask a question, get advice, the advice doesnt help solve the question but im to shy to say that.

I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to take some time to hop on a video call whether it be on Discord or elsewhere to be able to offer assistance and put me on the right path? Thanks!
