  1. Topics of discussion
  2. Add11 chords
  3. Add13 chords
1. Topics of discussion

In this tutorial, we are going to talk about add11 and add13 chords. So, let's have some fun.

2. Add11 chords

Add11 chords function in a similar fashion to add9 chords. We will change it up a bit and learn how to play the Dadd11 chord in more shapes than one. First off, the C form:

Dadd11_Cform.png

And here it is played back.

Next up, the A form:

Dadd11_Aform.png

And here it is played back.

Let's move on to the G form:

And here it is played back.

Next up is the E form:

Dadd11_Eform.png

And here it is played back.

And finally, the D form:

And here it is played back.

Now, let's move on to minor add11 chords. We'll be playing the Dmadd11 chord in different ways. Let's start off with the C form:

And here it is played back.

Next up, the A form:

Dmadd11_Aform.png

And here it is played back.

Let's move on to the G form:

And here it is played back.

Next up is the E form:

And here it is played back.

Finally, the D form:

And here it is played back.

3. Add13 chords

Add13 chords are basically identical to 6th chords. You can take a look at that lesson for more details..

That about covers it for this very short tutorial. In the next very short tutorial, we will be talking about 9th chords. See you then.

GUITAR LESSONS INCOMING!!

What’s up guys?! So I know I’ve been M.I.A. for the past few months… The excuse I’m going to use is that it was pretty hectic graduating college, moving back home to Houston, looking for a job, and then finally finding one and sorting out my new schedule. I made sure I could still have time for my guitar projects which include the covers, original content, and also these lesson videos! In an attempt to increase attendance in this school, I am making a series of videos that I will be releasing either weekly (or bi-weekly.. these lessons take a looong time to plan/record/edit). These videos will be lessons on subjects you guys have requested over the years! But the catch is.. its going to be exclusive to the school!
So here I present the first lesson of the series – “Buried Alive: Guitar Solo Dissection”
As opposed to just giving you tabs to these solos, I take you through the process I go through when I learn solos. The goal is for you to take these concepts and apply them to other solos you would like to learn. I will admit, I kind of knew how to play the first part of this solo years ago but for the most part, I am learning this solo along with you. I show how you can learn these solos by splitting them into segments, using your ear, some music theory, and I also reference some of the lessons on the school for further study.
But I do need your help…
I would GREATLY appreciate ANY feedback you may have. I want to make sure the information I’m conveying is crystal clear so let me know if there is something you’d rather me do differently!
Please feel free to ask any questions you have below! I will try my best to check in every day! Enjoy!!

Advice to improve a lot

Hello guys, as you know, we re in summer holidays, and it gives me time to dedicate myself to music. And, you know, until school starts again, I would like to make great progress in my playing. So I would like to question you, whats the best way to improve REALLY. BUT first, would like to introduce myself for those who dont know me yet. So, Im Marlyn Voe, Im 15 years old and i play guitar since I was almost 10. Started with classical guitar and when I was 14 I changed to rock music and started with eletric guitar. I was in my local music school, but in last summer, they closed, and I got into this school. I dont really know a lot of music theory, I know the basic stuff. I guess I can say Im an intermediate guitarrist, hum, I can alternate picking and tapping, but no sweeps yet XD I dont dont know if I can say something else to help you answer my question, BUT, whats the best way improve my playing? Sholud I be focused more in the tecnniques? Practise all of them? Or should I play hard songs to help me improve? Or maybe get into more music styles, beside metal? Finguerstyle? Or improvise w backing tracks? Scales? I dont really know, Im a little bit lost , and sooner the school is starting, and I really wanna improve a lot this summer, bc in chool time, is hard to find time to play, as you must know (especially in 11th grade 🙁 )
So will be waiting to read all your answers, all of them will help me, because I dont know what to do. Thank you very muchhhhhhh.

Paul Gilbert talking about guitar players he really likes

I always like to hear guitar players I like talk about guitar players they like and what makes them as great as they are to them and I just found this article of Paul Gilbert doing exactly that

STUDENTS WITH VIMEO, PLEASE READ THIS!

I know a lot of people have Vimeo for a reason. But it has continuously given me a headache trying to download your videos so that I can comprise them into something to be shared. There have been numerous students that have wanted to participate in a project but because of Vimeo’s weird laws, I never can download the videos. If you are planning in partaking in a project like the Syn Birthday video or the homework assignments, please consider getting a YouTube channel. I have a backway I can take on my phone but it takes a long time and a lot of file transferring and it’s just a lot of work. For example, I can record my screen on my phone but then for those who have like 20 minute videos, it bogs a lot of my memory down and I have to let my phone sit there and record for 20 minutes. Then i have to transfer the files to my computer and even by USB cable, WiFi Direct or Bluetooth it takes a long time.
Thank you guys so much for reading this 🙂 If you choose not to , no worries. I just won’t be able to share your work 🙁
Kindest,
Jak

Paradise Guitar Cover

Hello Everyone!
How are you doing?
I did my best on trying to cover Syn’s Paradise with my own equipment at my place.
I really like the textures and feeling of this song.
Bear in mind that I have very little knowledge about recording, so it is not thaaat great. But I think you can recognize the song at least haha.
I have been listening to this song for 2 weeks in order to try to replicate the drums and bass patterns on my midi keyboard.
So everything on this track it is made by me.
The thing that i had the most difficulty was the fuzzy sound. I do not know if Syn uses fractal to record his own songs, or used pedals.
I once read an article saying that he had a Big muff pi on his pedalboard, but i do not know if this is accurate.
I used:
– Synyster custom (2010 model)
– Fender Telecaster Standard 2013 american
– EHX Big Muff Pi, MXR Carbon Copy, Maxon OD808, MXR Phase 90.
– Scarlett Focusrite
– Logic Pro
I hope you guys Liked it! It is not a proffessional recording, but it is the best that I can do at my house. Not much time to learn new skills.
Oh! And by the way, I confess that I did try to sing it ( with and without Autotune) but I failed miserably hahahhaa.

Syn, congrats again for this tune, it is amazing. And I am sure a lot of people felt inspired as I did.

Take care guys!!

Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare (Guitar Solo)

Hi guys,
My first video on this website! I’ve been a fan of Syn since I discovered the band after their release of Nightmare. The album, and especially the song ‘Nightmare’ itself, got me hooked on the band immediately.
Syn’s solos always scared the crap out of me because I thought I would never be able to play them. However, since last year I practiced more and more to try and master some more difficult and faster stuff on the guitar. Yesterday I hit the record button on my attempt on the Nightmare solo and I was pretty happy with the result. It’s definitely not without flaws, but I’m proud of how it turned out.
Hope you guys enjoy and if you have any feedback in regards of my playing or tone please feel free to comment.
Tabs used from the original tab book.
Gear used:
– Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 FRS
– Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Kind regards,

The Heart From Your Hate on a 6 string guitar

Hello everyone! i would like to learn THFYH by Trivium on a 6 string guitar but i’m not sure how to do it. The original song is in B flat so on a 6 string i must tune my guitar to A# standard right? https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/trivium-the-heart-from-your-hate-tab-s436515t1 i’ve found this tab but before i start learning i want to check if it’s right 😀

Writing songs without good music theory knowledge

I’m thinking about writing my own song soon for the first time, and my music theory is not very good. I came up with a riff which I’m going to build my song around. I know it would be very helpful to have good music theory knowledge to write a song, but can you write a decent song with next to no knowledge about music theory and just experiment and go with whatever sounds good? Thanks!
