  • Question
Transitioning and strum patterns

So there are two things that are confusing me. First is something I kinda got down and that transitioning from a verse to a chorus or chorus to a bridge. What are some steps or ways I would to kinda build up verse to a chorus or another part of the song. Second is strum patterns. I have been having a lot of trouble finding good strum patterns to use in a song so what should I practice to start heading in the right direction. The only two I really know is just either straight eighth notes or the one strum pattern that Avenged Sevenfold uses in like 50% of their choruses (natural born killer, heretic, etc.)

Should i be proud of this critical acclaim singing?

I am very tentative of calling myself a singer to new people, with my own songs I'm great but m.shadows is a different breed. M.shadows was partly the reason I didnt know I had potential to sing. Because his singing is very good etc and hard. I hope I'm turning a new leaf in my singing.

Music and mental health

What's up fam? So recently my mental health has gone into a steep and scary decline. And I never realized until I got this low how much music has helped me over the years. I came real close to saying "fuck this life" and I happened to hear "In The Light" by Zeppelin. And I realized that there is hope out there. This isn't the end. I wonder how many other times music has pulled me out without me even realizing it. Anyone else experience this? What music/artists have helped pull you back up and kept you going?

Two Fancy Dudes #9: Metallica, Pantera and A.I.

Hello friends, happy Monday!

The homie @Radu-Cristian Perde and myself will be back at it today with “Two Fancy Dudes #9: Metallica, Pantera and A.I.” on SynTV! We had to miss the last few weeks as my day job got incredibly busy (as they do during the holidaze 😝) and I had to cover for some co-workers who ended up with rona, but we’re back this week with what is sure to be a baaaaanger of an episode at 3pm pst/6pm est!

We hope to see you there!🫡

Songwriting and creative riffs for metal and rock related genres

Hi everyone, this is a topic I have spoken about in lots of posts but I am still really struggling with riff writing. I find that I'm not really a creative type of person and never really have any ideas floating around in my head for solos or riffs etc and i really want that to change.

I look at riff writing really logically like there is some kind of formula to crack but I know that isn't true. Its just frustrating to sit down and put a drum track on but not be able to come up with interesting rhythms, chord structures or lead fills and in all honesty I don't know where to start.

I always hear people "having ideas in their heads" and i feel like I cant be a songwriter because I just don't have that.

I would love advice and maybe practice exercises if possible to help with being able to come up with interesting rhythmic patterns that lock in and around drum beats, creating chord progression and lead fills, really just how to break out of the mould of playing the same chords and notes in scale order as apposed to jumping around and playing complex chords.

The styles I mainly wish to be able to write would probably be pop punk, early metalcore and more djenty stuff like monuments and periphery.

  • Question
Guitar strings

Hi guys! I'm here with a question about the guitar strings. I play an old and cheap electric guitar (model Les Paul) and I've always used to use strings with 10-46 scale. Currently, I'm using the Ernie Ball regular slinky (the ones with the green pack). My question is, if I want to try the super slinky (the ones with the pink pack), which are 9-42 scale, could I have some kind of problems with my guitar? Is the string scale related to the guitar model, or is just up to the style/type of music you're going to play? I've always put the 11-52 on the acoustic guitar and the 10-46 on the electric, but I've never tried the 9-42 and I'm just curious.

Syn's Fractal Audio Systems Preset - A Demo

definitely hits that avenged sevenfold tone!

just demoing with some riffs and solos that I haven't played in a while

I was hesitant with getting the cab pack or which to get closest to the album tones, but that hellwin cab impulse response that came with the preset sounds awesome!

Long time player, first time Synner

I've been playing on and off for most of my life, and just found out about this site. It looks like there are a lot of good lessons to be had here and support from the community as well.

I cut my teeth during the heyday of the 80's commercial and thrash metal greats, but after several long breaks - it's time to refresh my knowledge of the six-string. I'm still trying to avoid the noodle-loop and formulate a practice plan to actually use the material on this site to my advantage.

I look forward to engaging you all and sharing my progress.

Cheers!~

  • Question
Tuning

Hey guys! Hope everyone is well. So glad the lessons are back and running😊 Thank you to everyone who worked hard on getting them back up! I've had my guitar for about a year now and I'm not a complete beginner, but I still don't know a whole lot of things, so I'm starting the lessons from the very beginning. Regarding the tuning lesson, I have been using guitar tuna/my amp tuner to help me tune(I dont own a clip tuner just yet). I've been trying to practice how to tune my guitar using the method in the lesson, but I just cant seem to get it. Is there any tips or tricks you guys have to help me master this skill?

Schecter Syn Custom NT

Hi,

I’m completely new to the Synner forum. A very good friend of mine has just given me his Synyster Gates guitar. I have never seen a version like this before and am struggling to find anything about it! It is a ‘Syn Custom NT’ and has a tuneomatic bridge, string thru body, a set neck and Seymour Duncan pickups.
Can anyone tell me about it? Apparently only 10 of them ended up in England, hence the ‘5’ on the cavity plate written in red sharpie. Thanks, Red.

My First Band Jam

After 8 months 5 days and 6 hours of playing guitar, I started a band and we had our first jam session last Thursday. It was a little difficult syncing up but it was pretty cool. I’m gonna call it a band jam, yes it sounds a bit cheesy but has a nice ring to it, maybe, ok I am not calling it band jam, that is gonna get old really fast. Band rehearsal practice jam session or for short, BRPJS. Anyways, Here’s a video unfortunately the phone fell and most of the video is towards the ceiling. Login to view embedded media

Digital processor trouble

hi if there is anyone with the knowladge or experiance on processor repair i need some help. I've been using Pod xt Live on stage and it started lightly at first but now it uncontrollablely switches tones between channels in the middle of a song while edit button is closed. For more clear explanation for example, when i play the rhythm section with clean channel that has gain on 1 and then switch to the distortion channel for solo with gain on 8-9 or whatever doesnt really matter, the gain of the distortion channel suddenly drops down to 1 same level as the clean channel i used right before. Is there anyway i can fix it myself at home there arent really any good lithuers around me and literally not a single one that can repair pedals etc.

Question about blending different amps into one guitar track

Hi guys i was trying to record guitars for my songs, and i've heard about blending different amps into one guitar track but i don't have a clue how is it done. so if some one can enlight me on this would be great.

PD: I would want to do this with Virtual amps like bias fx 2 or Amplitube since i don't have any real amp with me now.

Rhythm Combinations

So I was sitting in class one day and struggling to think of a good rhythm combination. So I thought hey why don’t I try all of them. If one beat has 16 different variations, one measure shouldn’t be that bad right, and boy was I wrong. I calculate everything for one measure and I got 64. Now you probably are thinking, “Well okay it is a bit tough but spend some time with it and you can find something good”. Heh heh, well that is just going down to the eighth subdivision. The amount of combinations of sixteenth subdivisions for one measure is 256! Crazy right? Really says to how infinite music is.

Guitar Effect in Angels Chorus

Hi folks,
I’m trying to figure out how to produce the effect Syn is using in the Chorus of the song Angels.

My ears are hearing a high octave effect and volume swells. It may also be some sort of delay or reverb effect where he has the mix set to 100%.

I know he’s a Fractal user, and that’s what I’m working with. I’ve already been trying stuff with a volume block and a pitch block for the octaves. Nothing so far. I’ve tried some different delays as well, but nothing.

Would love some help from the community! :)

Guitar Bat country solo help

I can play most of the solo, but am currently struggling (and have been for about 3 or so months now) to do the part right before the duet, the part where it's a fast up then back down on the frets kind of thing, does anyone have any tips, or advice, on how I should go about doing it, or any exercises that could help? Right now I've just been trying to do it slowly then speed it up but I'm not making any progress doing it this way.
