  • Question
(Beginner) Finger touching multiple strings

Hi,
This is a real beginner question but I was wondering : Is it a bad thing if my finger (often the pinky) touches multiples strings when I want to play a single note. I'm not talking about chords but for example, when I'm doing a pentatonic scale, my pinky often touches the string under the one that I'm playing. Since I don't find informations on that, I don't know if I need to stretch my hand or if it is just normal.
Thank you for your help and sorry for my english !

Reverse Bend Tips

Hi, I've been working on this technique here and there, I like how it sounds.

The trouble I'm having is when having a pre-bent 7th fretted note with my annular finger and want to drop the bend down releasing it to the 5th fret.
Hopefully I explained it right.
When I'm doing it often the sound isn't smooth or it dissipates.
I may also be misinterpreting the written notations when I see them.

I want to try to be able to do it multiple times in succession but I think I'm doing something wrong.

A video would probably help show the dilemma, tomorrow I'll get one-up.

Thanks! :rock-hand:

Rhythm

After doing a few lessons, and looking a head i see an extensive and great catalogue of lead guitar things, but is there anything on rhythm? there is lessons on these super fast amazing solos..but are their lessons on what the guy in the background is doing?? i went through the barre chord info and there wasn't anything on using E or A to drone on, or accented palm mutes? maybe i just need to bide my time

How to go about organizing media?

I've been trying to make space on my laptop and phone. Was thinking about what I should keep and could do without, cause like maybe some things are nice to keep for different reasons. Maybe you guys could suggest some reasons :)

Right now I just have one folder where I put everything and most are unnamed and I think there are many doubles by mistake, it's really chaotic.

Recently I deleted my old YouTube account and restarted it with the same name, kind of a mistake cause I had a lot of favorited videos that I'll probably forget and not come across again.

Also I deleted my super cool Cinder Gates SoundCloud page too 🥲 I wanted that to be like my band name with a Post-Hardcore type genre vibe whatever that is, but this idea was from awhile back.

Deleted all my GarageBand files too. I'm thinking now that I have some experience I could do things better like straight away name a file and stuff.

So I guess the question is "what kind of things should I keep?" Aside from tips on organizing. Some files are like 2-3gbs.

Might be a lot of rubbish I got saved up

Thanks in advance! :money-face:

How do you keep sustain in general

Hey guys I've been playing guitar for at least 4-5 years. I'm don't know much about amps or effects pedals or pickups, I usually just buy what sounds good to me lol. Any tips on how to keep sustain on your guitar. Thanks! And keep on shredding 💀🔥

Never mind the wrong notes..I'm was to mad at this pedal.
I tried to mess with the loop level but it makes it even worse
Someone has a solution to it?

Guitar String Gauge

I've been getting more in depth with string gauge, always been a 10-52 or 10-46 person. I stumbled across a couple of forums stating that "hybrid" gauges like 10-52 put uneven tension across the neck and can cause rotation warping over time. Is this a legitimate thing or just elitist gate keeping? I know syn uses 10-52 on his custom and I am wanting to change my syn custom to that as well. But before I delve into the world of Floyd tinkering any thoughts? I'll be essentially leaving it in drop D, always found 10-46 too floppy on the 6th string but then the tension on the A and D are higher than needed in a 10-52.
@Ed Seith potentially could have insight??
Thanks in advance!

Drums Placement of Drum Kit parts?

Hello, as I've been playing drums for roughly half a year, I was wondering how I should position the kit parts?
Spacings and placement, right now I kind of feel like I'm facing left a bit too much.
I'm right handed and the kit consists of 3 Toms, 2 that connect to the Kick Drum, a Snare, a Hi-Hat Pedal, 2 Cymbals and a Ride ( I think those are the names )
Each time I'm jamming at this place I go to I find myself adjusting the Hi-Hat and snare distances for space and feeling comfortable.
Is there a proper way to lay them out?
To me it seems fine when I look at it but I have little to no experience
I can't imagine where the double kick would go with the Hi-Hat there ( if there was one )
One more thing, sometimes if I place one not so great I have to adjust my approach as to not hit my fingers with the Snare, Hi-Hat.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow if it helps

Thanks in advance! :money-face:

Transcription ear training? Easy transcription songs?

Whaddup Synners?

For all my transcribers out there I had a question.

I am starting to pick up ear training and I wanted to ask you all what would be more beneficial for me.

For my age I know that I cannot develop a perfect pitch so would training intervals be more effective?

Whad do you think?

Additionally. Do you have any easy songs to initiate myself to transcriptions? I tried choosing songs and always end up biting off more than I can chew and get kinda discouraged.

Thank you all in advance!

Random Jamming

Just had a preview show gig last night, and our pianist just began playing piano chords before the show really started, and everyone was looking at me to jam along with him. I have no issues with soloing, and I'm in fact pretty good at it when I know what key I'm in. But it was at that moment that I realized I needed some kind of technique to find what major or minor key someone is jamming in so that after I find it I can get to work lol.

I've heard of people using the CAGED system to do this, but I have no idea how to do that so please give some explanation thx.

Beginner What scales to play over chord progressions

I now have a better understanding of scales and I know about chord families of notes. Let's take Key of C for example, It'll have the chords C , Dm, Em ,F , G, Am and b diminished. If these chords are being played in a random order then If I'm correct you'll have to play in key of C. How do you figure out what scales you can play over a certain chord progression when improvising? Thanks Synners 🤘
