Progress!! Played at 137 bpm, so full speed but there's definitely work to be done to make it smoother and more consistent. Few notes because I forgot to call them out in the video: 1. Need to work on holding the notes for a little longer, they're quite short and abrupt, which sounds awful. 2. The stretches are giving my hand a pretty bad strain, so I can't play it for too long consistently, so more practice needed. 3. Timing is still slightly off, and one small mess-up throws me off entirely. 4. Getting used to switching from lead to rhythm bits needs work. There's probably stuff I missed, but these are the main bits. Enjoy!

This solo is a struggle...like legitimately its a struggle for me.....theese damn sweeps....

@[4668:@Alicia Willis] I thought it might help someone else as well. Fingerings/Picking Motions are Debatable. Slow it down 0.5 or maybe less, 1.5 is roughly normal speed. Some parts I added vibrato where it wasn't in the book. Hear the song I found a crucial note I was missing going over it again. The Pinch Harmonic + Vibrato at the end is an aggressive one, just recently noticed that. I learned it with the book, it took me a long time to understand it. ( Still learning ) I've been reflecting this solo for over 10 years.

This is me practicing just the arpeggio's for the CAGED system from the lessons! I'm really digging this kind of practicing for myself. Playing things slower has me antsy, but I'm retaining this info better all while learning the fretboard more. Major and Pentatonic scales are feeling close to good, so I'm aiming to be able to play those together later in the week!

Learned 2 ways now to do the scale and my alternate picking feels much more natural, had to take a couple days off wrists started hurting haha.

Never thought I would play this song at 100% speed but here I go. Endurance fails me though and towards minute 2 or 2:30 I lose the timing and try to catch up with the song. My challenge now is to be able to release some tension from my arms to be able to play the full rhythm clean

For me the biggest and best “prize” in coming in 2nd on the Rockstar Student award is the lessons with the all mighty Hector Trejo to learn my favorite Avenged solo. I’ve only seriously been playing less than a year and this is so different from anything I’ve attempted before so I was a bit weary to post my journey, but seeing CJ’s updates has giving me the courage I needed ! So I wanted to share with you guys as I work on this. Today was my second lesson with Hector. There are so many techniques and things I’ve never done, and while it’s honestly awful now, I know what I need to work on and how to get there and at the end of the day I feel like this is going to be a major learning moment for me ! No matter how long it takes, I’m determined to get it, get it right, and make the school and Mr. Trejo proud ! Just because you’re a beginner doesn’t mean you can’t aim big ! Practice until your fingers bleed ! Lol. Okay maybe not that much, but you get the jist 🤣

So this is my first video on the school!! I decided like 40 minutes ago that I’m gonna get over my fear of posting a video on here and just do it! I was always too embarrassed that I can only play rhythm guitar but I finally figured out that it’s not a bad thing and actually quite important! So I chose a song I’m good at and did it! Enjoy!!
