Punk rock/ pop punk was my first love....aside from classic rock. I’m trying to learn this for my brother ! 😊 I’m pretty happy with how far my palm mutes have come. I’ve found though I have a hard time doing them well on other guitars. I’m most comfortable playing my strat. Also, I know I need to work on alternate strumming....but I mean it’s punk... ya gotta go hard with the down stums 🙃 plus it’s fun and I’m all about having fun ! Haha that being said, I did try to build up some tension and “slowly” go into the open chords.... not sure if I achieved that well enough though.
Here's my first ever attempt at fingerpicking! It's something I never thought I'd find myself doing, so it's gonna be a long road of hard work to get somewhere, but I wanted to be able to show my progress as I keep working at it and improving, so here's the first step! It's messy, it's rambling, it's probably not very clear and there's a whole list of things to work on, but I'm already proud of myself for picking it up in the first place and managing to wrap my head around how the basics work (Thanks to the lessons on here, of course!) I'll be updating with more videos as I go, gonna make this my main little project for a while (Like NRtD was). Hope you enjoy!
Trying out a lot of new stuff. I use a smaller pick, have a new rhythm tone and it's the first time I kinda managed to play it standing up, which is insane to me. There are a couple of parts I really messed up, a) because of timing or b) because it's still awkward to play. But it's so fun to practice this one to the track.
Nightmare riff and chorus
Love playing to this song and I'm enjoying the tone. Need to work on that sustainiac pickup!
SOAD - Chop Suey

SOAD - Chop Suey

It was going to be a #metalminute video but I couldnt leave the chorus out of this as to me is one of the best parts of the song, and the clean guitar is awesome! Far from perfect but so much fun to play, going from slow clean guitar parts to some crazy riffs xD
Scream Solo

Scream Solo

Here's my shot at the Scream solo. It's not the best but I gave my best shot at it! Hope you enjoy!
The last 20 or so seconds got cut off i have no idea why haha but here’s this incredibly fun song (and hard solo)! Made even harder because i have an ingrown fingernail/hangnail on my fretting hands index finger 😂 enjoy guys and gals! @[1427:@Ed Seith] would love any advice or pointers if you got some!

The basics | Week 1

Hi all :) Edit: Thanks so much for all the great advice and encouragement, it's awesome! I joined here 5 days ago and this is my progress so far The fastest I can play the chromatic scale is 45bpm at the moment. Question about the chromatic scale... The video in the beginners' section says that, when ascending, you need to read all the accidentals as sharps and descending all the accidentals as flats (for example: D, D#, E, F, F# G and then descending G, G flat, F, E, E flat, D and so on. ) I am not quite in that habit yet.. I already play an instrument and came into the habit of just calling G flat F# for example because it's the same note.. is this a problem?
Long video alert, with a lot of rambling comments! Honestly I was so close to throwing in the towel today with this, it's been a rough day mentally, my chest is killing me, but I really wanted to get this done. Massive thank you to everyone who left me advice and helped me get to this stage! There's a few bits where my timing is off, where I generally screw up notes and just lose it, etc, (it gets a lot better at the end) so this probably needs yet more work, but I think I need to take a break and work on something else before I come back to do the main riff.
I've spend way too many times on tiktok lately(it's scary how addicting it is) and there's this melody that keeps coming back so I figured I'd do something with it and improv after. It's in Cm which is a new key to me, that's where some of the hiccups come from and sometimes I just flat out mess up
Afterlife Solo

Afterlife Solo

By no means is this even close to perfect, but I figured I’d finally give this solo a shot. Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold is honestly the song that hooked me into guitar, and the reason Synyster Gates became my favorite guitar player of all time. When I first heard the guitar solo, my mind was completely blown. I didn’t even know it was possible to make a guitar sound like that! As soon as I heard it all the way through, I made a vow to myself to one day learn that solo. 7 years later, I feel like I can somewhat play it. I hope you enjoy!
A friend asked me to write a guitar track for his lyrics. The song will be metal but more on the sad / ballad side. This is the clean intro for it and I am super proud of it. I could not have done that a month ago! Also thanks again to @[22747:@Chris Johnston] for helping me getting fit in theory! Let me know what you think and if something on the analysis part is wrong :)
Thanks @[477:@Ids Schiere], @[3987:@Dominik Graeber] and other fkr the advice. I've tried to move my guitar less, and use mostly my wrist and fingers to do the vibrato. Again, not a cover just vibrato practice, and I was just messing with the solo taking the chunks I thought would be best to practice with! :)
Made a mini video where I covered the slide licks @[477:@Ids Schiere] just taught in his lesson video. Also standing up for Jak! lol

SRV is way harder to play than I originally thought. Why finally the good players make things sound Soo easy😱

Slide lesson

I think I'm allowed to post here(If not I'm sorry @[5:@Jak Angelescu]). Basicslly, I've been using a lot of slides as inflection lately so as my trial student teacher thing I figured I'd teach two licks I'd typically would do(there are some variations to it but I just took kind of the basic ones). I'm not that good at video editing(this is literally the first time I've done it) so I apologise if it's not very good 😅

Vibrato practise

Little bit of vibrato practise (snipet). I used the so far away solo to practise, and just used different segments in random orders. This isnt a cover or anything, just vibrato practise, so timing etc doesnt bother me, just the vibrato :)

Trills Exercise

Not my best demonstration, but still an exercise I hope some will find helpful! Particularly good for the left hand, this focuses on hammer-ons and pull-offs that you can add to your solos to make them sound cool without too much work! Just... don't do what I do and rush to try and get it perfect, because otherwise it'll end up really sloppy like how I do it in the video. Really need to work on these once I put the NRtD intro to rest for a bit lol
Shit's not gonna keep me from practicing! Or uploading. Had to upload it from my phone cuz my graphics card on my PC broke. Next up will be an original Intro I composed for a song of which I'm pretty proud of.
Short and snappy sweep

Short and snappy sweep

I have posted this because I would like to create a tutorial on the topic of sweeping and the CAGED system. This is just a very small example of what you can get out of the CAGED system. Hope to post in the next week or so. Cheers!
