    A7x tab book accuracy

I have never seen a tab book, but I assume they’re not written by Syn himself, meaning they’re probably about as accurate as tabs you can find online, which are never 100% accurate.

Is it ok to wrap your thumb round the neck?

While playing I don’t really think about what I do with my thumb, I just do what feels best. Most of the time it’s wrapped around the neck and for big stretches it’s behind the neck.

I've been trying to learn the tapping part of Syn's master class solo. I think I figured it out, now I just need to get it up to speed. Feedback is appreciated as always :).

how long you've been playing guitar?

    6 years, started when I was 17

    how to do tap harmonics?

@dominik I think those are just regular taps on E24 and B22, not harmonics. I could be wrong though.

    how to do tap harmonics?

You have to tap directly onto the fret (onto the metal part), not in between the frets. To know which fret you need to tap exactly, it works the same as natural harmonics, 12th fret, 7th, 5th etc. the 12th fret is easiest to achieve. So for example If your left hand is holding a note on the 5th...

    how to play guitar standing?

Same has Jen here basically, I hold my guitar relatively high (I think?) and at an angle. To be honest I think it’s kinda stupid to sacrifice playability at the sake of “looking cool”, it’s kinda like people who think they look cool by wearing their pants really low. John Petrucci for example...

    8 finger tapping

It would be cool if that kind of tapping excercises would be added to Syn’s etudes. I posted this a while ago in the riff section, tapping excercises involving only hammer-ons, kind of like the tapping in Syn’s master class solo. Maybe it can help. Weird tapping excercises

    Tips for vibrato

Watch this video. His other “this is why you suck at guitar” videos are also very helpful, the title may seem a bit pretentious but that’s just his type of humor.

Something I randomly came up with. Inspired by Sweep Picking VI.

    Heretic Solos

I believe you mean the part starting around 3:33? I’ve been wondering this as well, because it has quite a distinct sound that you don’t hear in his other solos. But I don’t really know anything about effects, could be a subtle chorus or flanger effect, or something completely different.

    Alternate Picking II

I took a quick look at the lesson and I believe he plays 12 13 15 with index, middle and pinky and then slides to 17 with his pinky (but also picks 17). But like others said, you don’t have to play it exactly the same as Syn, just do what feels right to you.

    D K's riff from April 15, 2018 at 5:42 am

Sweeps from "Beyond This life" by Dream Theater. When I first heard this it blew my mind, but it's actually much easier than it seems and it has helped me a lot with sweep picking in general.

I posted a video of myself improvising (finally). It would be great if you could let me know what you think. 🙂 Guitar imrpovisation in B minor

    D K's riff from April 12, 2018 at 12:06 pm

I haven't practiced improv much since my forum post a couple of weeks ago, but here it is anyway. I started by playing to backing tracks in the key of D major, but I didn't really like it, it sounded too happy to me (what does that say about me?), so I switched to B minor, which contains exactly the

    Muting notes while sweep picking.

What Ed said. Both hands are used for muting, picking hand for the lower (lower in pitch) strings and fretting hand for the higher strings. As to which part of your hand you use, I think this is largely personal preference, so you need to experiment and figure out on your own what works best for...

    Is this a Good Idea?

Besides the fact that people might get discouraged is that this would just be very hard to do. You can’t just put a single number on someone to grade their skills, it’s far more complex than this. It just wouldn’t be feasible to give every participant an accurate description of how good they are.

    "Slow down software" [Question]

I use an app called anytune, there’s a free version and paid version, but the free version can still do pretty much everything you need. You can add markers, loop a certain part of the song, change the pitch if you want to, so for example if a songs is Eb tuning you can make the pitch 1 semitone...
