    Time well spent

During the week I play like 1-1.5 hours a day because of school and stuff, during the weekend/holidays it’s probably something like 2-5 hours a day, depending on much I’m in the mood for it.

I realise that it can never sound exactly like an acoustic, just wanted to know what’s the next best thing. Thank for the tips

Worried for my friend who learning how to play

I think the most important part for learning guitar is that you actually enjoy it, so if he wants to play electric rather than acoustic he definitely should.

How to make electric guitar sound like acoustic?

Does anyone know what settings I should choose on my amp to make my electric guitar sound as close as possible to an acoustic guitar? Like in general and/or specifically for my guitar (Schecter Stealth C-1) and amp (Yamaha THR10 V2). Thanks in advance!

Firm picks or flimsy picks for shredding?

I prefer thicker (stiffer) picks with a sharp point. I recently bought some JP flow picks and I really like them.

How to play 7 string songs on a 6 string

What you could do is increase the pitch of the song by 5 semitones and treat the low E of the 6-string as the low B of the 7 string, I did this for the shattered fortress. Or you could do a combination of increasing the pitch of the song and lowering the tuning on your guitar, for example...

    learning ukulele as a guitarist

Is the tuning really that different though? Standard ukulele tuning is GCEA, making it basically like the first 4 strings of a guitar with a capo on the fifth fret.

    learning ukulele as a guitarist

Yeah I don’t think it will really help help to get better at playing guitar techniques-wise, but learning ukulele (or any other instrument) might give you more insights that you can also apply to guitar.

    learning ukulele as a guitarist

What are some good free online ukulele courses? Is there any course that treats it from a guitarist’s point of view? Because it would be nice to transpose guitar knowledge to ukulele rather than to start from scratch. And to turn this into a more general question: do you think learning to play...

    Free tabbing sites

Honestly if you’re not willing to pay for something (nothing wrong with that by the way) you’re not in a position to be picky. That being said I think the available tabbing sites that are free are still more than decent (talking mainly about ultimate guitar and songsterr). Lastly, you learn much...

    Economy Picking/Sweeping Warm-Ups

I Think it’s fine to combine both techniques, even if it’s just for warming up. When you’re playing actual songs you’re also not just gonna stick to 1 technique

Most Common Things I See That Are Potentially Hindering Your Progress

I’m sometimes think about posting a video of my progress, but usually I get bored of the thing I’m practicing before I get to recording. For example a while ago I posted a video of the tapping in Syn’s master class solo (slow) and then I thought about figuring out more of the solo and practicing...

How accurate is Songsterr for tabs?

From my experience tabs are never 100% accurate, including Songsterr. I just figure out everything by ear and use songsterr, live videos and guitar covers to compare.

opinions on different kinds of picks?

I used the JP signature pick for a long time, but quite recently switched to tortex sharp 1.5mm.

    Practicing slow

When I learn new thing it usually feels like I’m starting from scratch, but the time that is needed to get better at something reduces with time (I hope that makes sense). To get good at something you need to start slowly and gradually build up speed, I know it is tempting to increase the speed...

Does anyone know what hes doing?

Hi Richard I only saw this post just now, I think it’s something like this: E|———————————-15b17- B|————————-15—-14——- G|—————-15—-14—-13———- D|——-15—-14—-13——————- A|—-14—-13—————————- E|-13————————————- So basically 4 times the same shape but going up one string each time

    D K's riff from June 20, 2018 at 11:34 am

I've seen a bunch of people posting their cover of this solo here, so I decided to post my cover as well. I actually made this video more than 2 years ago, it's a bit rushed and/or sloppy at times, but overall I'm still pretty happy about it.

ANOTHER question for Syn or Papa Gates regarding weaknesses

Great answer, those analogies/metaphors with the ferrari and the salt are perfect.
