A while ago I was practicing economy picking with etude I, but in every position of the major scale and harmonic minor scale. Then I was learning to play breaking all illusions by dream theater, mainly the beginning and some other parts. Now I’m trying to figure out the solo of a rite of passage...
I don’t know where it’s from, but it sounds pretty good. It does sound familiar somehow. By the way, should I just tell you the title of the song my riff was from, or should I wait a little longer?
Haha i’m aware of that, although doing those big stretches is not just about having long fingers, technique is also important (maybe you can’t see it in the video but my thumb is very low on the neck here). And no, it’s not by Funeral of a Friend.
I want to share a method that I used to memorize the major scale (or any of its modes) and that I’m also applying to learn the harmonic minor scale. In principle this method should work for any heptatonic scale (scales that contain 7 notes per octave) and can be “modified” for any pentatonic...
I believe I made a mistake, I thought I remembered applying a 2-string sweep like in etude VI in the buried alive solo, but after playing it again I realised I actually didn’t. I probably mixed it up with with another song in my mind. But yeah the part you’re talking about seems most easily...
I think sweep picking etude VI is really helpful for this. Pay close attention to the picking pattern in the tab, this picking pattern might feel a bit awkward at first, it did for me, but it has really helped me with that sort of stuff.
I don’t think it’s a bad habit, it’s just a matter of personal preference. I believe classical guitar is usually played with the thumb behind the neck.
wow this is weird, I heard this earlier today and I clearly heard Laurel. Now when I listened to the one you posted I heard Yanny but after a while it changed to Laurel and now I can’t hear Yanny anymore.
A cover of the part right before the acoustic part of exist. It's not technically very demanding, but getting the timing right was a bit hard. I hope you like it 🙂
I use anytune, it’s a free app. Though I think it’s only for iOS. Before this I used BPMinus, it’s a free computer program, you can donwnload it here: http://bpminus.com/
I really like playing the first 3 minutes or so of stream of consciousness. It’s not very hard and I really like playing it for warming up, the rest of the song is another story, especially the solo. It has some big stretches though, so that might be a problem if you have small hands.
