Comment by 'Brian Haner Sr.' in media 'Learning to play Alternate Picking I the correct way'

Going up you're fine. You are missing on the way back down. Slipping back into economy picking. Play the scale half as fast as you are playing right now. REALLY slow. Don't get discouraged. Because you have economy picking down, it's going to be hard to alt pick. Keep working on it. You're...

    Perfect record

Interesting question. It seems even the greatest albums have that "one" song that you skip over. And when you become an uber-fan of a band, you lose objectivity and make a case that a certain song is good when it's really not. I'm old, so my point of reference is a bit dated (and I don't listen...

Don't loose sight of how far you've come!

Beautiful! We can learn from our idols and let them inform our playing - but we have to be who we are. We all have different physical capabilities and we hear differently. Practice and be the best "you" that you can be.

Awesome! Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions!

Down in the dumps with guitar

Kat the Metalhead nailed it. I go weeks without playing. Hell, I think I've gone months. While I don't suggest THAT - a couple of days off is sometimes a good thing. Listen to some music. Clear your head. Come back to it with a fresh attitude. It's amazing how well you play when you're fresh...

    Welcome, Ada!

I wanted to share my first video with you guys :)

Very nice! There are many things about engineering/producing that can be taught; mic placement, compressors, etc. But there are just many things that can only be learned by "doing" - because the solution to a difficult situation is going to be different for everybody. I LOVE this idea of...

    Tube Amp VS Solid state.

Two of my fav pedals: TS & Big Muff. You can do a ton of damage with those two pedals. I'm old school so I love to throw some delay on my stuff. The nice thing about delay is that virtually every delay pedal does the same thing. If you want to splurge, you can go with an analog delay or a delay...

    Tube Amp VS Solid state.

Back in the olden days of "Solid State" it used to be no contest. Nowadays, you can go tubeless and get the same sound with a couple of nice pedals - which also solves your volume problems. I would go with a good "pedal friendly" amp and stay away from tubes.

Make The Riff Section Great Again

LOVE IT! Nicely done. You are getting so much better! And you have Syn fingers! I'd kill to have those fingers. Just a matter of time and practice before you're shredding! pg

    Landing Tones - Lesson 3

Yes! You are really close. Try this. Same backing track. Start on the D note then noodle your way back to D. When it goes to G - play a G note and noodle your way back to G. Then do the same with A. In other words - start AND end on the root of each chord. You're doing great!

    Riff Page and Update

LOVE this thread! All great points. Hard to fight human nature - which is why Facebook, Twitter, et. al. are doing so well. It's much more fun to argue Nickelback than to argue Altered Scale vs Diminished over the V chord. lol. And I totally get why beginners are hesitant to post. It's been...

SO EXCITED for the new Epiphone Line Up

Some nice stuff here! I have a cheap Epiphone Les Paul (that I never play - mostly because I have several Gibson Les Pauls). But I also have a Sheraton - which is like a deluxe Casino (Gibson 335) that I absolutely love. They make some great instruments - especially on their higher end.

    What should I practice?

Get there HOWEVER you can get there. 100 guitar players will have 100 different ways to do the same thing. : )

    All The Right Reasons

I agree with that - but 99% of pop music is soulless. Soulless might be an overstatement. Let's just say most pop is not socially conscious or it's not designed to make a positive change in the world. And I have no problem with that. Purple Haze & Back in Black never enlightened anybody or...

Ha! Not that I'm aware of. Haven't listened to The Long Road in many years. I will check it out.
