Guitar Syn used in A7X early days?

His Ibanez and Parker Fly were the two he used for the first 2 albums. Actually, the first time he EVER used a Les Paul was for the video shoot of Unholy. It was supposed to be only for the shoot, but he he liked it so much, he bought it. Shortly after that, he became a Schecter endorsee - and...

    Advice From Papa Gates

Such a fun night! Always great to see you. Glad you got something out of my endless rambling. We definitely dove down a couple of rabbit holes. lol. My life has been filled with comedy and politics for the past year so I haven’t played much guitar, and I certainly haven’t talked guitar with...

    Project rebuild: revenger fr

The body would be doable. There are several places to get guitar quality wood. The neck is a different story. ESPECIALLY if this is your first build. Without thousands of dollars worth of jigs and woodworking tools, probably not possible. I would hit up REVERB or Ebay and buy a Revenger and...

    New Player struggling

Hey Zachary! Welcome. As you can tell – there are lots of people here willing to help. Some great advice has already been given. All I would add is this – Playing guitar is like a 26 mile marathon and you have run 10 yards. I knew 3 chords after 4 months. lol. Be easy on yourself and just have...

    Bad Habit?

It is a completely valid style. (Holdsworth, Tom Quayle, Oliva and many more have used it). My only suggestion would be to work on your picking techniques as well. Great guitarists have options and then make choices. Give yourself options. Everything you learn is just another tool. HOWEVER –...

    A little off topic. .

How wonderful, Kate! Sometimes it seems like there is nothing one person can do to change the world. But you’ve learned the secret. Do what you can – one person at a time. You changed a life. And you will no doubt change more! Proud of you!!!

    Beatles bass lines

Oh sure. Laugh. But those who are true fans of Elton know that the J in his last name is silent.

    Beatles bass lines

Love this, Ids! Paul definitely was a game-changer for bass players! It’s amazing how many figures he played up an octave. Rarely hit an open E. It added a “lightness” to the tracks as opposed to a heavy bottom. And they ALWAYS left room in the arrangements for his embellishments. Listen to...

    Learning notes of the fretboard

THIS makes me happy beyond words! Thank you, Filip! Great work!!! Knowing the fretboard is NOT about “thinking” every note you play in a solo or lick. That would be impossible. It’s about reference points. So if you want to start a lick or a scale on F# note on the A string – you know where that is.

Every one of my guitars was stolen today.

Unreal. So sorry, Calvin. Hang in there. We’ve all been through these rough times. There is always a way out.

what scales are used for playing gypsy jazz?

Gypsy is not scale based. It’s arpeggio based. Learn major arps (and Ma7 arps) also – AND THIS IS THE BIG ONE – min6 arps (As well as min9 arps) – which can be used over minor chords AND 9th chords, (an Amin6 arp works over Am and D9). Also diminished arps and dim scales work over the V chord...
