Anybody ever felt like this before?

My parents were supportive of me BUT didn’t always like my musical choices. I was supportive of Syn BUT didn’t like all of his musical choices. Syn is supportive of me BUT doesn’t like all of my musical choices. We want the people closest to us to love our art as much as we do. I think that is...

    So, it happened…

Absolutely, Ed! And feel free to hit me up when I’m in your neck of the woods. Going to be on the road a ton over the next 16 months.

wich are your favorite Outros of a7x?

Gonna go full douche here and say Sidewinder, closely followed by Blinded In Chains. I played acoustic on both. But the outro groove on Blinded is transcendent.

Do you guys actually like using the caged system?

CAGED is a tool. Just like a scale is a tool. It’s all about using that given tool to benefit you. When we first learn something – we are really a slave to it. As it becomes second nature, we can use it and bend it to our will. Trust your ears. Choose your notes accordingly. Make it musical...

    CAGED breakthrough!

Nice! Listen to some Brian Setzer. Nobody does this style better than him. It’s all about feel. Gotta swing those 8th notes!

    Honesty.

Hey Billy! Great job! We are all a “work in progress”. We are all on the same path. Some of us are further along than others. I think you’ll find the better guitar players here are very encouraging. So feel free to ask for help and feel free to help others and pass along your breakthroughs...

    Needing Help on Lesson 25

So let me understand this. It’s an A shape on the 5th fret? That would be a D chord and you would be stretching from the A (5th fret on the E string) to the D (10th fret on the E string). If so, it’s a big stretch and will probably require some work – but it’s totally do-able. It will just hurt...

    Help me pick a guitar!!!

Hi Alicia! Nothing much to add here. Ibanez & PRS would certainly fit the bill. The Fender Jags, Jazzmasters & Mustangs all have REALLY small necks. I have a Jag that I love. But I’m not sure you want to go that bold. lol Actually, the new Syn satin gold burst has a much smaller neck than his...

    Advice to improve a lot

Tough question. As Aaron said – Transcription is an awesome way to improve your musicianship. Especially if you choose something challenging. In general I would say – pick some specific areas where you want to improve; alt-picking, scales, difficult chords, arpeggios, improvising solos, etc...

I'm back. It felt like forever. Help me please

I have taken time off a few times in my career. It always sucks getting back into it. Go back to basics. Run some scales. Practice alt-picking, etc. It will come back a lot faster than you think. Good Luck! PG

Choosing which scale to play over a progression

Lots of great stuff here! As with all note choices. Let your ear guide you. A lot of these scales are an “acquired” taste. As you expose yourself to more difficult harmony (jazz), more of these scales will work for you and sound right to your ear. Thanks for sharing all this great info, John...

    Meet Your New Keymaster!

This is GREAT news! Congrats, Jak. Well deserved!!!

    Fingerpicking, any advice?

I play a TON without a pick. As Ed said – if metal is your goal, maybe not. BUT – on the other hand – you just might invent a new metal finger style. Technique is simply a means to an end. Music is about the sounds you make. If you can make sounds you like and are happy with, without using a...
