Natural Born Killer riff sounds like......

I'd never noticed it before, but I picked up the guitar to play the riff, and instantly heard the Petty song when I did it. "Huh! How bout that?"

Overview Of EDCAG – The Minor Version of The CAGED System – Lesson 34

Chords can also be played in parts - you don't need the full six-string version of the chord. Some chords also work well with just the bottom three notes, the top three or four, or a few in the middle. Learning CAGED will help you learn which parts of the chord are still the same chord, tonally.

And the 6 Magic Note Contest Winner is...

Congrats to our winners, and really to everyone who entered. There was a lot of great competition - I loved seeing just how creative people can be with such tight restrictions!

    Riff challenge (yes again)

Slightly off-topic - a friend of mine saw Pat two nights ago and posted some video. She still sounds AMAZING.

Overview Of EDCAG – The Minor Version of The CAGED System – Lesson 34

Some of these are really not meant to be played, but just understood - how they are built, how and why you can move them up the fretboard, and how they relate to single note lines, melodies, arpeggio sweeps, etc.

    Metalcore suggestions

The punctuation is iffy here - the "singer's shitty history" is referring to As I Lay Dying. Singer Tim Lambesis - fronting a "Christian metalcore band," made a credible attempt to have his wife assassinated. He did prison time for it. Just FYI. Their music may be awesome - I've never actually...

    Metalcore suggestions

Totally spaced on Parkway Drive. Good catch! Love them!

    Metalcore suggestions

Not a huge WTF fan, but I do like a lot of metalcore. Try some Killswitch Engage, Times of Grace, Trivium (who have metalcore roots, but have a lot of thrash leanings, as well), Light the Torch, Ice Nine Kills (The Silver Scream rules), Atreyu, Between the Buried and Me... Lots of good stuff...

Take a break, have a meme

It took longer than I want to admit for me to get the joke. Nice one!

    KIMONO MY HOUSE by Sparks

Never heard of these guys. Thoughts as I listen... Okay, wow. I hear some Who influences, Tiny Tim in the vocals, and other bits from the 70s in This Town. The drumming is really cool. Amateur Hour I like. The Motown-style drumming gets me every time. The arrangements and rhythm breaks are...

Technique and the Modern Guitarist - thoughts after seeing Guns n Roses

So I went to Guns n Roses in Phoenix last night, and overall it was a really good show. Axl's voice is nearly shot - he has trouble enunciating, and his middle register is just... GONE, but still a solid showman. It was a nearly three hour show featuring several extended guitar spotlights among...

How do you make practice enjoyable?

Of course, The Management does not condone illegal or potentially dangerous activities like this.

Any1 know any artists that sound from the 80s era?

John Mayer's latest record (Sob Rock) is the most authentically "80's pop rock" thing you can listen to right now.

    New video from Chris

This is catchy AF, @Chris Johnston - love it. Shared it to my wall on the book of feces, I mean faces.

Now there's a song that can almost ALWAYS make me cut onions.
