Maybe buying a Bass... Do I need an amp?

Back in the day, most bass guitars were recorded direct - bassists didn't even bother bringing a rig - just a bass guitar. They'd grub a tuner and cable from the guitarist, plug in and play. Their tone was basically up to the engineer. There is NOTHING wrong with recording that way, which is why...

Maybe buying a Bass... Do I need an amp?

As long as you don't crank it, the amp will be fine. If the Katana doesn't have any bass amp settings, then see if it has a BYPASS mode. If it does, the Katana is your bass interface to the PC. If not, you can still use a very clean amp dialed in neutrally and with no effects to get it into the PC.

Thank You All For Another Successful Masterclass

It was awesome. And yeah - Bill speaks truth. Once you step out on a stage - any stage - no one cares what happened 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, or 5 years ago. Do you have "it?" If not, get the fuck outta here. So have it. Whatever it takes. Great stuff, Jak! Another notch in the Jak-Belt!

The SECOND Bill Hudson Masterclass is in the books, and folks, this one was a fucking monster. Nearly three hours on the center of the music theory universe - the Major Scale. Bill connected a lot of dots for me about how theory really applies to the shapes and patterns long since burned into my...

    Tour Guitars Are Back, Baby!

Exactly, Ids. There are a lot of players more technically proficient than even Syn, certainly now, in this day and age. What he brings to the table to stand out is both his songwriting and the uniqueness of his playing style.

    Tour Guitars Are Back, Baby!

I do really and truly HATE how people who write articles like this think Fender and Gibson are the only major guitar builders, though.

Even the King started as a Prince

It's funny, because none of that really SEEMS all that long ago, but that all happened like 35 years ago. Crazy.

Even the King started as a Prince

In the late 70s and early 80s, that was the ONLY way. Fender and Gibson were the only major "rock" guitar manufacturers, and as a player, you fell into one of the two camps. As guys like Eddie were gaining popularity and more players were seeing how he butchered his guitars to do what he wanted...

Tips on how to get the best tone out of a strat!

I'm only on my voyage of discovery with those things myself, but aside from the pickup selector, dial down the gain, add some compression at the beginning of your signal and don't be afraid to use a bit more delay and/or reverb than you would with a high-gain metal tone.

Tips on how to get the best tone out of a strat!

First, where a humbucker guitar playing metal, you're typically going to use the bridge hummer for rhythm and clean and stuff, a strat is different. Most Strat players I see spend more time in position 2 or 4 on the pickup selector than any other.

how much should I spend on next guitar?

Indeed I do, if I do say so myself. You can see most of them in my instagram feed  https://www.instagram.com/edmaninaz/

how much should I spend on next guitar?

I'm spoiled, and it's the rare guitar I'd spend less than $1500US on, but a lot of great playability can be had in the $500-750 range. Below that, and you're usually compromising something you'll wind up wanting to upgrade later (usually pickups, wiring or tuning pegs). If you're accepting of...

    How Is Everyone Doing?

I think it's ravaged almost everything and everyone, to some degree or another. In the US it's dragging on way too long, and a lot of people are itching to get back to living. Unfortunately, the itchiest are also the ones most reluctant to wear a mask and social distance, which will only prolong...

    Upgrading Strat Squier Pickups

Papa Gates will weigh in here, if he's available. Strats aren't really my thing. @Ids Schiere may have some input, too.

Fractal Axe fx and AX8 users

Revisiting this thread thanks to a like, this was before the Syn Cab Packs came out. I can honestly say that Syn's cab models are EXECUTED significantly better than any others I've heard. Whether you LIKE the cabinets or not is a matter of taste, but my biggest problem with every single cab pack...
