    Help With Reaper

Tell me more about how your getting from the guitar in your hands to the 2i2. What’s your chain, and how do you get there? (Pedals not needed – mostly interested in how you’re getting from amp to 2i2).

    Help With Reaper

If you’re getting the red ring on the interface, then nothing you do in Reaper will matter – you need to reduce what’s going into the FocusRite. The Focusrite is clipping when the ring is red. It happens the same on LINE or INST?

PS: I see that you sent me a voice recording, but I’m on a call and can’t listen right now 🙂

    Help With Reaper

On your focusrite’s front panel, under the input, there’s a switch for “LINE | INST” and also a pushbutton for “PAD.” Make sure PAD is OFF (button out) and switch from LINE to INST and back and see which one is better. Also, is the ring around the GAIN dial red or green?

More questions about making a home studio

If you just want to direct into the DAW and shape your tone there, try this: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/guitar-rig-5-player/ The price is right, and it’s good quality.

    Sounds awesome!

    New guitar (help)!

That’s all personal taste. Not sure what your specific interest is in a 35 year old Epiphone, but if that’s your thing, that’s your thing.

More questions about making a home studio

^^^ What Firsty said. Sometimes you have to add a track, set the input and turn “record” on (not necessarily ACTUALLY record, but have it “armed” to record to the track).

More questions about making a home studio

Until you can get studio monitors, you should be able to go into the SETTINGS of Tracktion and set the output to your current sound card and speakers.

    Really bummed out =/

Don’t give up hope, but also be open to other options. If everyone else in the band just wants to play covers, then stick with that for a few months, get a few covers really solid, and then start suggesting writing. Learn how to gel together and have fun before you get into writing your own...

    New Black Moon Guitar

Clara, if you play it and continue learning, you are worthy and doing it justice! What a great guitar!

    Acacia Ridge

There’s a whole album out there for streaming. It’s worth checking out – it’s a diverse album.

    Acacia Ridge

We’ve got a member on the site who lurks here in the forums. His name is Flip Twogood, and his band Acacia Ridge just released their debut album (self-released) on all the major services – Spotify, Amazon, iTunes, you name it. They did an awesome job writing, recording, and mixing, and honestly...

    Hardtail Syn Signature?

There are a LOT of safe, non-permanent ways to block a trem. Tremol-no is the right way, but there are pro guitarists touring the world with taped together stacks of coins wedged in between the trem blocks and the routed wood of the body of the guitar.

    Building Our Own Studio (HELP!)

Ahh, crap, I forgot about MONITORS – good catch, Filip! And acoustic treatment – we used egg crate and flat packing foam to do this to the walls of our rehearsal room. Definitely makes a big difference, and you might be able to find what you need out behind an appliance or electronics store...

    Building Our Own Studio (HELP!)

PS: for Bass, you record direct (a LOT of bass tracks are just bass guitar into the interface, then EQ and effects), or use a bass sim plug-in (Studio Devil is really good), or again, the AxeFX has solid bass amps and cabinets.

Can I get some feedback on this Nightmare solo cover?

Needs one more rhythm guitar, a little less high end on the other one. The opening melody leading up to the solo is a touch too loud – the sound of both together should NOT be louder than the solo guitar. Solo sounds great – very well played and clean. Agree that the tremolo picked part came out...

    Building Our Own Studio (HELP!)

Also, need a pop filter ($8) for the vocal mic, and a stand. Make sure the mic cable is long enough to get from the Scarlett to the bathroom, because that’s your isolated vocal booth. Great natural reverb in the shitter.

    Building Our Own Studio (HELP!)

Assuming recording drums elsewhere or using EZDrummer or something, because you can do the drum bits later, and that’s the most expensive part of setting up a studio because of all the mics, stands, and cables and more complex interface you need. If you do drums somewhere else, and get the stems...
