    Autographed syn custom

Take it apart, mask what can’t be removed. Have a trusted painter apply a heavy clearcoat lacquer to the top. Whether you do the sides and back is up to you, but I wouldn’t. Just the top.

How do i work on my left and right hand muting while playing solos

Left hand, for lead: 1. Only fret the string you’re playing. When the note is done, you’re finger is off the string, exactly the opposite of chording. 2. Get used to using the edge of your fretting finger to lightly touch the edge of the next thicker string, wherever possible (less possible on...

Some Thoughts On Self-Enrichment (Slightly Guitar Related)

I knew you wouldn’t be able to stay away. 🙂

Why can't I play basic things fast (why do I suck at guitar)

I think the way you hold your pick holds you back less than trying to play all that alternate picked, which is how you’re doing it, from what I can tell. If you are economizing it, it looks like your economy is not smooth, but still “bouncing” from one to the next. When you have two notes across...

Some Thoughts On Self-Enrichment (Slightly Guitar Related)

Great motivational post! I’ve always said, you can NEVER say “I don’t have time for that.” Everyone has the same 24 hours every day. Elon Musk makes time for it, while Billy Jim Bob sits on his couch watching Rawhide reruns after he clocks out of his 8 hour shift. Only one of them says “I...

    Beast and the harlot question

I alternate pick the D string bits (starting on downpick), and always hit the G string notes as downstrokes. Same picking pattern for each part, so after the G string accent notes, going back to the D string starts on a downstroke again. So, it’s like n v n v n - n v n v n - etc. D...

    Single coil Vs humbucker

Well, Janick mostly sounds like he’s falling down stairs, but Davey’s guitars almost always have humbuckers in the bridge, at least. Even his Strats.

Make Mistakes to Grow and Create Great Solos

Sayonil, there’s a ton of great stuff in here – this is awesome. There’s some great melodic sounding stuff in there that fits really well, too – one of my big shortcomings. This is kick ass.

My first actual written full solo.

I don’t know the song, and it’s REALLY hard to hear the backing track under the lead playing, but it sounds cool (It sounds like there may be a few off notes you linger on, but I can’t tell for sure because of the backing track’s volume). I like that you’ve got bending and vibrato in there – a...

    Single coil Vs humbucker

My preference is always for coil-tapped humbuckers – best of both worlds. I like humbuckers for heavy rhythm and leads. I like a mix (hum Bridge and single in middle or neck) for clean tones and bluesier playing.

Why can't I play basic things fast (why do I suck at guitar)

Are you sure you’re playing it right? And consistently fingering and picking exactly the same way, every time? This is how I play that part. View post on imgur.com Notice there’s a fair bit of economy picking in there, two string sweeps. These are an important part of it sounding right, and...

    I need band suggestions…

I dunno. To me, Greta Van Fleet is what Rolling Stone magazine thinks rock music should be, and no one who loves music should give a shit about Rolling Stone. All I hear is another Led Zep clone attempt. Sorry.

    learning ukulele as a guitarist

The tuning is very different, so chords are almost completely different, however you can see how the shapes relate from guitar to uke sometimes, and that’s interesting, and can be helpful from a theory-thinking perspective. Aside from that and, as Jak said, learning another instrument never...

    Is tone in the fingers?

I would tend to agree with 80% or so. I’ve played and recorded through a LOT of rigs, of different type, quality, and “tonal offering,” and I always sound like me. Part of it is probably that I dial it to the best tone I like on the equipment. Part of it is just what I am. But the gear does...

Synners, Advice 🙂Are My Strings Too Heavy?

Agree there. When I was playing and gigging heavily, new strings on every guitar in a rotating schedule got them all fresh ones about every 2 weeks. I do go months on most of them now and 3-4 weeks on my main guitar.

Synners, Advice 🙂Are My Strings Too Heavy?

Absolutely. The jack is like the “power on” for actives. Unplug when not playing and the battery will last longer. 11s are REALLY tough to maintain happiness with. SRV famously started tours with 11s and finished with 13s because he played so much. I like a little looseness and bendiness, and he...

    Get Well Soon, M!

I hear you. I was going to the Phoenix show with my singer. I get the apologies – there’s a lot of people let down, and a lot of people not getting paid as a result. It can’t be helped. The last livestream show, I knew there was something up – he’s never note-perfect, but he was struggling too...

    How to play letgato

Lachlan, it’s not just “pulling off” as the name suggests, you kind of have to almost pluck it with the finger you’re pulling off. SNAP it off, don’t just lift it. Make sense?
