    Adjusting the action (help!)

Your Fender might also need a truss rod adjustment. Strung and tuned, the neck should have a VERY slight forward bow. If there’s not quite enough bow, the bridge or saddles would need to be raised a lot to allow the notes to ring out, creating unnaturally high action. You should be able to put...

which Trans siberan orchestra song should I learn

Sarajevo 12/24 is the one most people would recognize, and there’s some great playing on it, too – this was originally a Savatage song on their 1995 album “Dead Winter Dead.” A DJ here in America started spinning it on the air around Christmas, and it caught on. BIG. One thing led to another...

    Adjusting the action (help!)

Action is a matter of personal preference, but typically the ideal action is as low as possible without causing any buzz. If you’re playing slide, you may want to raise it, and some people want it high just because they want to watch the world burn 😉 If you’re a beginner and he’s more...

Guitar Center Going Out of Business and The Music Industry

Guitar Center is basically saying the same thing Gibson is saying, and both are full of shit because they don’t want to acknowledge that their biggest problems have been their own making – bad leadership, bad management, a slew of bad decisions. Guitar Center was done the minute Bain Capital was...

Fractal Axe fx and AX8 users

When you get your unit, I’d be happy to email you my tones. I ain’t Syn, but they’re solid tones I get a lot of compliments on, though I do use aftermarket cabinets (I can recommend built in ones to taste). Use them as a foundation of building your own, or learn from them. A lot of the...

    5fdp school

@dominik, yeah, we’ve seen them 3 times here, and every time there are several tech problems that stop the show until they’re fixed. Last week, they blew the power twice and Ivan smashed at least 2 microphones for problems. When they’re “on,” they do put on a good, fun show and get everyone...

Daily Notice For Video Testimony Collaboration!

The idea is to showcase people of all skill levels, so don’t feel like anyone needs to shred.

Meh. I’m under and over it. See what I did there? They are my daughter’s favorite band right now, and I just took her to see them Friday night. Decent show, but they need a better road crew – technical glitches that stopped the show several times, and it’s that way every time we see them.

    how to play guitar standing?

And start with the strap up high, like when you’re sitting down – lower it a half inch a week until it look cool. Because up around your chin is for bass players. You don’t need to go the full Les Paul look, a la Slash or Steve Clark (RIP), but it should at least hide your belt buckle, if possible.

    how to play guitar standing?

Nature of the beast. The guitar stays more in-place when you’re sitting down. The only real solution, once you’ve found the right strap length for you, is to always practice standing up. I’ve been doing it for 30 years. You can’t ROCK with your HORNS UP in a chair.

Hook is a solid guitarist, but most of his lead work is very one-trick pony – fast, syncopated alternate or economy picked patterns.

Sold one of my Syn models! 😨😢😁🤘🏽

Looking at the specs on the new ones here in the store, it looks like Syn has significantly refined these for the new model year. ~18k resistance on the new pickups sounds batshit crazy; I’m looking forward to hearing how they sound!

Daily Reminder For Testimony Video Submissions!

I sent something. I rambled a bit, played a little, and went way longer than you asked for, Jak, so cut, trim, and abuse as you see fit. 🙂

    Help with getting started again.

Your time away HAS caused you to get “worse.” I might be one of the worst cases of that. I played heavily for about 17 years before life got in the way and I was playing less and less. Eventually, it got to where I’d pick up an axe and play once every 4-6 weeks, and every time, I was worse than...

How to develop your own style?

I think this is harder now than it used to be, thanks in large part to the plethora of detailed tools available to the learning guitarist (YouTube stuff, mostly). There’s so much detail that budding guitarists can emulate now, without any guesswork – the guesswork is often what made someone more...

Guitars for sale here in the future?

Yes, you did hear that correctly. He and Pappy will be using an online store, selling a number of things including his signature Schecters, to help fund the site to keep it going without advertising. He said we should expect pricing to be competitive, or in line with what you’d pay elsewhere for it.

    About scales… (lesson 7)

    If you’re building that way, then yes, from your root note, the construct of the major scale is W W H W W W H. So if you were starting on D, just to be different than the C we’ve been discussing, it would be D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, and back to D. w w h w w w h. What makes C...
