Theoretical Key???

So I was messing around in BandLab today with the AI generator and the project was generated in G# Major. I have a notebook full of the notes and chords for scales but I haven't done the # scales yets so i googled it and it came up with this: "G-Sharp major is a theoretical key based on the musical note G#, consisting of the pitches G#, A#, B#, C#, D#, E#, and F" I was taught in class that B# and E# don't exist, so how would they be in G# Major?

I made a weird sound

Login to view embedded media So I accidentally hit something that sounds almost like a pinch harmonic. Instead of using my thumb though I used my index finger’s fingernail. Also I found it works best on the top 3 strings of the guitar a lot better than the lower ones. I had to put the puck in a bit of an angle to do it. I took a video of what it sounds like.

Take your time and enjoy the process

Whaddup Synner Fam!

Hope you are all doing good.

Been a while I posted here, but as usual I lurk around here.

I wanted to share some insights I came across over the last couple of months regarding the art of guitar.

My first revelation was: slow down!

In todays world days go by faster because we have a lot of distractions. And comparing ourselves with other players is doing us no favours. Don't let the world distract you from your journey. Every one of us is on their own journey, and it's gonna take as long as it needs to take. A lifetime.

Second insight: find your balance and discipline

Practicing......who really wants to do it? Sitting down and mindlessly playing is way more fun!
Well, if we want to grow...we gotta plant the seeds and water it every day, only way plant is gonna grow!
So what can you do?
Put things into persective, why do you play an instrument? Glory and fame? Or rather because music is part of you? If the latter is the case, practice daily not because you want to, but because it is a part of you and you owe it to yourself!

But how do you actually do it?

Know thyself and figure out what works best you!

In my case, making a good environment for practice help a lot! A scented candle and a nice cup of tea did the trick! I also try to sweeten the deal and watch a video whilst warming up to make the process less of a choir. Once the first step is done, im usually ready to go.

Third insight: invest in an interface!

Seriously, best choice I made recently. It has allowed me a lot of flexibility! I can practice without restraints and the feeling of annoying my neighbours, which in the past held me back inmensely! Be it 6 p.m. or 4 a.m (yes more than once I practice during that time) I get my daily practice in!

Anyhow, I hope this helps!

Happy Practicing I wish you all

New here! & Afterlife Solo Cover

Hey guys!

Tony here, new member from the UK, just signed up. Thought I'd come on board and partake in absorbing the awesomeness here :)

Been playing guitar for around 10 years, and of course have listened to A7x all the way through. Hail to the incredibly diverse, mindful-yet-mind-blowing player that is @Syn Gates

I'll pop my take on the Afterlife solo below - any feedback, tips etc would be really appreciated from any of you.

AFTERLIFE SOLO COVER (TONY HALLIWELL)

Really looking forward to dialling in on some lessons and getting involved in the materials on here in due course. This community is new territory for me, but I've heard awesome things and there's only good vibes as far as the eye can see!

Rock on!

Guitar Legato Newbie Question

As title states, I'm trying to learn legato.

I'm a 34 year old working professional and have about an hour a day to practice.

I'm currently learning Syn's Legato 1 lesson.
I'm trying to learn things slow, and am having no issues going descending from the low e string to the high e by using hammer ons, however, when trying to ascend from the high e to low e using pull offs I'm having issues.

lets say in the high e string I have to pull of on 8-7-5, in ascending to the b string do I move all of my fingers to the 8-7-5 of the b string then pull off? Or do I hold my index finger in the 5 of e string while simultaneously pick the 8 on the b string with my pinky then subsequently move my other fingers in the 7 and 5 note?... not sure if i'm making sense.

Looking for some help

Hello everyone, fellow sinners, my car recently took a dump and I've been saving but I'm not quite there yet for a reliable car, I'm willing to sell my synyster gates custom S satin gold burst with a hardshell case, its in mint condition. I'm looking for $1200, I figured I would try my community here first before I go to reverb and it just sits there for low ballers. Please help.

syns guitar pedal

hey everyone ! it’s been quite some time since i logged back in here and it feels good to see how much the school has grown since ! other than that, i hope all have been well ! i logged on to ask a question that’s been on my mind for a while and it’s about the guitar pedal that syn was making and if there was any news about it that i possibly missed about when it’s coming out or if it’s still in production.

thanks !

Happy New Year! Check up.

Hey Everyone! Happy New Year!

Recently, I've noticed a bit of decline from some of the members on here and it's a bit of a downer.
That being said how is everyone doing? How has everyone's musical journey changed this year?
What has everyone been listening to recently and how has it effected your playing?
Or if you just want to give a life update and just a message of how you've been doing : )
I miss the excitement of everyone on here and hopefully Papa Gates and Syn will see this and
help spark some excitement back on here!
Either way I hope everyone is well and I'm so glad to be on here in the twisted Synner family
with so many other great people : )

Again Happy New Years and Be Safe!

Guitar Guitar tone

Hi everyone and happy new year!
I recently just listened to metal music, didn't have my guitar near me and I have got a really big problem. I got used to professional guitar tone, so not much the high crispyness, which always triggered me and now I want to achieve these tones, because I want to record some demos and I hate my own tone. It is true that I am using free plugins, but also very cheap digital multieffect. If I will have time later today, I can post some demos of my tone.
Have a nice day everyone and see ya!

  • Question
Stuck in a Rut

So I’ve been having a bit trouble creating something new. I am stuck doing the same old I - VII - VI chord progressions and riffs that I’ve done before and when I create something new it feels boring and uninteresting. I have been through this before but this time is a bit harder to get out of. Does anyone know how to kinda get out of feeling uninspired and find something to be inspired by?

  • Question
SYN Custom S Sustaniac issue

Hey Guys! I finally was able to get my hands on my DREAM guitar the custom S. Was debating for a while because I consider myself a beginnermediate LOL, but I figure if I make consistent use of it as im working on my playing daily, its worth it to have a guitar I love!

I've noticed since I got it, the sustaniac seems to work for a couple hours at most, then I need to change the battery on it. I'm wondering if this is normal, or if there is another issue that I may have (battery coming loose some how, pickup too high or low etc). I am not experienced at all with working on a guitar so I would rather not open the thing up; just some general advice would be great before I take it in to have it set up.

It's worth noting that the pickup itself still works and plays- I'm not sure if it goes out or not when the battery is dead so that advice would be helpful as well. My first experience with active pickups, floyd rose etc. so there has been some growing pains. Appreciate it in advance!

Floyd rose troubleshooting

So I have a schecter hellraiser with a Floyd rose on it and I have it in drop c and I play with Ernie ball 10-52 strings and lately the low e string feels loose or there isn't enough tension on the string and the other strings feel fine.
The low e string has this snappiness sound to it.
Any advice

Been playing for 5 years, been a synner for 1 day.

I’ve been pretty consistently over the last 5 years being self taught for the entire duration yet i feel like I’ve hit a block. I want to get better!! Started looking around and came across this site and everything ranging from the community to the lessons themselves Is of such a high standard. Now I just need to figure out a proper practice schedule to properly learn what I should have 5 years ago.

DISCO VOLANTE by Mr. Bungle

:syngates:Yo family! Wanted to start doing a monthly album discussion based on records that have changed my life and musical path. We are kickin it off with Mr. Bungle’s insanely ambitious sophomore release, Disco Volante.

Jimmy made me a mixtape of some of the most avant-garde shit I had ever heard at 13 years old ranging from Primus, The Residents, Bungle, and beyond.

I HATED this mixtape with a passion for two whole weeks until a small spark of curiosity grew rapidly into a deep and profound obsession.

The mixtape had songs from the previous eponymous record which, as obscure as it was to me at the time, paled in comparison to my first listen of Disco.

Already a huge fan of the band, I did however HATE this record for two whole weeks until a spark of curiosity grew rapidly into a deep and profound obsession.

I was pissed that Patton didn’t sing, Spruance didn’t solo, no clown music etc. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Patton’s vocals and the entire bands performance interwoven throughout a chaotically beautiful and terrifying “soundtrack”, transcended anything I’d ever heard before. One of my favorite song writers of all time, Trevor Roy Dunn, composes masterful and incredibly singable atonal brilliance throughout. The man is nothing short of pure genius in my humble opinion.

I now focused solely on orchestrating my guitar parts with deep sensitivity towards the soul of the song. This gift of perspective was the greatest of any in my musical history.

Like ALL of my favorite things in life, this is an acquired taste, so please, give it time.

All my love,
Syn
