Guitar How do you visualize the fretboard?

Hello there,

I thought it would be a fun thing to ask... so while playing/writing/improvising how do you visualize the fretboard? What do you see, what kind of "map" you have in your head?
Do you have the root notes and intervals as your base? Or note names? Or triads/chord shapes? CAGED? Scale shapes? Pentatonic boxes? Or something I didn't even mentioned?

Writing

I don’t compose before recording typically because I think improvising smaller studio settings strikes a note on your style of music instrumentation.
I do compose before the recording session if it is usually a tighter list to go into the studio with.

For example: graphic design for music is usually the first thing before either composing or recording, and even samples. So I’ll go with those first before laying out any thing worth recording or bulks of notes and writings.

Got really familiar with guitar pro. Programming your own drums is the way to go if you are a solo artist. GarageBand has a decent drummer and you can even makes simple progressions.

So for style I’ll lay it out with either samples or graphics then pick which instrument is best for harboring a tone for either going all the way down the set list or maybe for a really tasty solo being planned to be spawned out for my heavier stuff.

Never like to have a project not being used for more than a month usually.

Post your writing tricks, tone setters, or even striking styles you’ve learned over the course of being in the fam.
I’ll post some examples later just trying to start the thread rn.

can't play learning videos

what’s wrong with my account from a long time ago until now I haven’t seen Papa Gates and Synyster teaching. The video doesn’t work here at all. I think this is related to the verification problem, where before getting verification, of course I can’t play the video but not now I’ve got verification but why can’t the video play and the link I show the problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG7ED0JYlR0

New Megadeth Album

So, just finished the new Deth that just dropped, phew! My brain is on fire.

It's heavy as in deep. It's one of those albums I can tell will grow on you with multiple listens, which I look forward to. There's so much to take in I hesitated to even post this originally and had to wait for my heart rate to slow down.

Very warm tones overall. I find it fascinating how an album's sound can match the overall cover art and message they are going for. Dystopia was sleek, metallic (no 'a'), grey and futuristic. This one brings everything back to browns and earth tones, black plaques, WARM leads. Vic Rattlehead goes from the future to some sort of early-modern or renaissance era setting.

The title track as well as Killing Time (yes I thought of 'Doin Time') and Celebutante are the highlights for me. The latter is certified thrash with a quote from the classic "Looking Down the Cross".

Spoiler alert: it's funny to hear Dave call military cadence and recite nursery rhymes, as well as the Monty Python quote to start the album.

Anyway...talk amongst ya'selves.

Having Trouble Setting Up FX Chains In Reaper

Hey everyone! I'm getting a lot better with using Reaper but the biggest problem I'm having is setting up FX chains with amp simulators and stuff. A few of the problems I'm having are....

1. The sound randomly cuts out. If I do a vibrato or a bend, randomly it's like the signal cuts out and it cuts the sound. So it sounds like I'm doing a sustained vibrato and it just stops. It's not my cable because it works just fine through my amp.
2. I hear two different tones in my headphones. I literally hear a clean guitar tone (like the sound you have when the record button isn't armed and it just sounds like a bad clean tone) along with the amp simulator tone. I hear them both at the same time.

I have searched all over the internet to no avail.

Setting up FX chains has been the bane of my guitar recording because nothing sounds good. Like, at all. I get a great tone straight into my amp, which is why I'm buying an amp mic on my next paycheck.
It seems like every Youtube video/Guitar Reaper tutorial tells me to set up the chain differently. But here is where I'm standing at currently...

Reatune
Reagate
VST3 Ignite Emissary
VST3 Ignite Nadir
JS Distortion
JS Reaverbate

Any help would be much appreciated. I have spent at least 200 hours trying to figure out how to dial in a decent tone and everything sounds like shit. Thanks guys and gals!

  • Question
Syn custom pickups for a single humbucker strat?

Hey guys, currently building a 24.75 inch strat with a warmouth neck. I plan to have a coil switch on the guitar with a single volume control.

This was a Frankenstein project with parts I managed to secure quite cheap so its going to have a bit of an identity crisis I haven't really planned it.

Anyway, I heard Syn's pickups and really enjoyed the clean tones (i'm obsessed for clean tones). So my question is do you think a single humbucker of his would work in this build? My main amp is a Roland JC22 but also play on garuage band, another speaker/amp from Roland (my portable one) and a VOX but I dont really use the Vox anymore.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions :D

Thank you guys

Schecter Guitar Forum

Hey you guys!
So excited that the school is finally open.
As many of you may know, Syn uses Schecter guitars. I, among others, help administrate and am part of a facebook page called Schecter Guitar Forum. Basically, we discuss Schecter products, talk about gear, share pictures & videos, and all around aim to have a good time. We sometimes even get to see some prototypes and inside looks at the factory.
I’d love to have you onboard!
We can be found through Schecter’s official facebook page
Best regards,
John Tosado
