Riff Contest

This is my participation for the new Riff Contest, here I am using the The harmonic minor scale (Lesson 101) I really like the sound and emotions that this scale transmits. for the arpeggio part I am using the lesson 48 (introduction to building chords) to make a chord progression on that scale and then using the lesson 49 (Building more complicated chords) I started adding some 7th chords to change the sound and make it more "Jazz" What I love of the Syn Gates School is that you can progressively learn guitar no matter your level or skills in a very organized way and having the support of the others students that are always helping to overcome the difficulties. My main aspiration as musician is composing my own music, I love Pinkly Smooth and currently I am composing music inspired by them, maybe some day if you want I can share something of that here Hope you enjoy my participation and thank you for listening!
I started working on this in November last year but was struggling with the motivation to actually finish it and put it out. I was just sitting on bunch of unfinished riffs or ideas in my laptop. I was failing to motivate myself to actually plan out different parts of a song, piece them together and make a final thing. Over the last few days, I decided to get rid of that old habit of not finishing anything. In my mind, this school will be a place to push myself everyday to work on ideas and finishing songs as I go. I will upload each one here from now on just so that I can stop myself from going back to my old ways. With that being siad, I am also working on my song writing skills, learning mixing mastering along the way. So if you notice anything (however little it may be), that can be improved, please let me know. and, if you actually read this full thing, you are truly awesome.
I've been working on my technique, I think it's sounding better. Having trouble getting the right harmonic at the end, it has a low volume on that note. I think the tab book might be slightly off or I'm missing some things. It's still a little off, this is my best solo, I got it memorized. I didn't know the sound would be this low, next time I'll adjust the settings. I've been working on this rock jam, I learned the strumming pattern here. Today I practiced it again to share, but it got a little more interesting by accident and was able to work it into my playing. Going to try and upload the jam tomorrow with some kind of song structure.

I got the outro part instagram ready and figured I'd share it here as well

Eudaimonia Overture(day 7)

So it's day 7 of me working on eudaimonia overture and I'll probably continue working on it to make it instagram ready but this is what I have so far 😅
I got a little further with the sweep picking lesson, 8 bars and the bend at 70% speed. The first 4 bars helped separate my middle and index fingers, not to mention the huge pinky stretch. The next 4 bars had me connect them close again, which was awkward feeling. I've been working on my bends and muting, it's making my fingertips numb and can't do it for too long. Here I'm using my index finger to mute like 3-4 strings and bending with my 3 other fingers, I'm just lightly resting it on the strings and applying pressure to my other 3 fingers for the bend and vibrato. Last half is some weird keyboard stuff again, I did a little bit of practice again today along with other guitar stuff. Didn't record anything during the day so the volume is low again. So yeah this is what I got for today, I'll try to get something loud when I wake up, usually got more energy too.

Looper fun with octaves

I had a bit of looper fun with octaves creating a sound I liked and I figured I'd share

Since I have been taking a break from my private lessons, has been using the time to really hone in on what I've learned. I re visited the C major scale in the concept he wanted me to get really well under my belt: the concept of key changes :)
Final day of the challenge, intro and verse/chorus, threw in the bridge section for good measure. A few little mistakes here and there but overall I am happy with the progress given the time frame. Will be one I will continue to work on.
I think the scale is the same or similar to the one on Seize the Day. Learned the 1st four bars on the sweep picking etude, forgot to use a pick when i recorded it. That's a crazy stretch, I was surprised I could do it and standing up too. Normally my fret hand fingers rest together, after I did the Etude bars my fingers collapsed a fret apart each. Kind of scary to me, hopefully I can still be able to play power chords. It's late again so the volumes low, this is what I worked on before I slept and after I woke. Did some camera effects too.
Just realized I never posted my week progress here ! I posted a different video on my Instagram, but I was using a different guitar (and sitting down 😬) So....I decided to share this one here. Same guitar I used in the first video, but I’m up off my ass and standing 🤣 Maybe one day I can do it justice. 😉

Skid Row- Youth Gone Wild (Rhythm)

I have put myself in guitar school all over again! Instead of feeling pressured to get solos completely perfect, I am giving myself assignments for certain things and my assignment for this week was to get the rhythm of the song up to speed and played standing up as if I was in a performance. Next week I will start really nailing on the solo! I already know it but I can't play it up to speed yet very well. I dedicate this video to @[4668:@Alicia Willis] who inspired me to have fun and let go and goof off if I want to be myself. I also dedicate this to @[59877:@Kat the metalhead] who doesn't ever give a shit what people think about how she looks or how she plays. She rocks hard on the camera and she is always true to herself. Something that I have forgotten about over the last few years.
Ok, this is my day 7 of the guitar challenge. (Well it's a bit more because On Christmas Eve and Christmas day I didn't get anything done 😬) I tried standing up this time and it was not easy!! I mess up on the pre-chorus and I obviously haven't found that "spot" for a good muted sound yet. Also, messed up the last power chord before the solo section and just to prove a point I repeated the chord before the solo 😂 and towards the end I hit 2 times the low E string when I wasn't supposed to. But yeah, here is my attempt. I'll keep on practicing it just standing up from now on!

Oh! Lady be good

I spent Christmas as my mother's house and only had an acoustic guitar with me so I worked on this nice happy vibes gypsy jazz song.
