Try out guitars in guitar center?

There's a sizable Guitar Center underground near Times Square (you take an escalator down to the store, below street level). They have a lot there. I spent some time there this last visit. You'll enjoy it! Most of the best historical guitar shops, like Manny's New York, etc, are long gone.

Try out guitars in guitar center?

Except for the ones mounted high on the wall or locked up, you are free to grab whatever and start playing - no issues. Those others you need to ask for help with, and while you CAN, it might be better to not try those unless you're actually interested. There are times I go in for strings, and...

    Almost feel like giving up

"Dear Captain" with a picture of Ann Landers, for those of you old enough to remember her.

    Musical Night!

Happy birthday! So is "OldBreakdown" describing YOU (old like me?), a car, your favorite metalcore song, or what?

How do I stop loosing my guitar picks

Incidentally, and not to be THAT GUY but needing to be that guy, it's "losing," not "loosing."

    Almost feel like giving up

Well, with Neil passed now, there was no point, but I'll look for places to mention Rush in the future, for sure. Thanks for the advice!

    String Fix

The long silver screws at the bottom. The black ones are your fine-tuners, for when a string is slightly out of tune and the nut is locked. If you look at one of the silver screws, it goes through the gold back plate and into the gold saddle where it presses the black block into the string and...

    String Fix

You have to use the allen wrench to loosen the screws holding the little square blocks squeezing the strings. Then take the time to understand what you're fiddling with:

How do I stop loosing my guitar picks

Tuck one into the strings of your main or only guitar like a baseball card in the bicycle spokes, or just have ONE PLACE you keep all your picks ALWAYS and get used to putting them there EVERY TIME. I can't remember the last time I really LOST a pick. (knock wood)

Songwriters! Here comes something potentially embarrassing but maybe fun?

I'll have to see if I have it digitized. It would be with an awful drum machine and from the late 1980s. I know what song it is, and it became something cooler when I had a band later, but if I can find the original Tascam 4 track cassette demo, that's the money shot.

Simple, hard truth time. Your parents actually WANT you to succeed. They do love you. They have difficulty accepting that music is a path to success. They're not wrong, if you're honest. For every Syn out there making millions, there are literally millions out there not making ANYTHING. I know...

    Purchasing reaper

    You're still "evaluating" it then.

    Floyd Rose Retuning/Changing Strings

Honestly, you really don't even need to do that. Clip 'em all, let it deck in the cavity (obviously use something if it would deck on a painted finish!), and put all the new ones on. If they're the same gauge and you're using the same tuning, it will all be fine. Done it for decades.

    Floyd Rose Retuning/Changing Strings

If it doesn't help, I'll give you your money back! Who else makes that kind of GUARANTEE??!?!?

    Tube Amp VS Solid state.

That's kinda the fight for the ages. I have found qualities I seriously love in both, and I feel like a lot of the low-end GRUNT people praise tube amps for is EQ'd out in a mix. Now, for the last few years, I have a solid state imitating tubes... So... What does that count as???

    Purchasing reaper

It was never ACTUALLY free, but the "evaluation" is full-featured, not hobbled, and not time-bombed, so you COULD use it forever without paying for it. It's recommended that when one gets to where they CAN afford to pay for it, they SHOULD. That's just honesty.

    Purchasing reaper

Sorry, are you suggesting that's too expensive? I dare you to find a pro-level DAW anywhere near that price. ProTools is 10x the price. Reaper is dirt fucking cheap for what you get.

    Purchasing reaper

Always, as far as I know. The "evaluation" version is unrestricted and can be used perpetually, but that still doesn't mean it's ACTUALLY free - the people who wrote it deserve compensation for it.

    Scalloped fretboard or no?

The thinking and the theory behind the scalloping is that when you bend on a standard fretboard, you're getting some wood friction in your fingers, as well. Mega-jumbo frets serve the same purpose as scalloping, without all that grinding and routing - they remove the possibility of...
