    Audio Interface?

Agree on the FocusRite, though I can’t vouch for the Linux drivers. In fact, I don’t think ANYONE can really vouch for Linux drivers or app compatibility when it comes to DAWs and digital audio production. The money and dev/QA hours are put where they do the most good, and that’s Windows and...

    Recording my own songs

Absolutely! I’d also recommend exporting the GP file’s individual instruments to MIDI, and using a program like EZDrummer to make the drums sound more realistic, but that involves cost and learning – but do take that as a takeaway. I did this song that way (this was a REALLY fast kamikaze thing...

    Need help Rhythm guitar

Definitely agree, playing to a click and playing along to your favorite songs is the best and easiest (and most fun) way to get rhythm. Now, thanks to things like Amazing Slow Downer, if you can’t keep up with a particular song, you can slow it down to where you CAN play it, and speed it up as...

    I feel broke

I started on a Fender Mustang that I *rented* 35 years ago. I have a lot of guitars now, but it take time – just like getting good. Save your money by playing more :-).

    Feeling stuck

Lots of great advice here, and I’m going to add to it in a different way. As a more experienced player with the techniques under your belt, I’m going to suggest an exercise that Vai uses. It’s really hard. REALLY hard. But it can help you work on developing your own ideas around phrasing. Steve...

What Do You Guys Use for You're Guitar Tone?

I have an AxeFX2+. It is absolutely outstanding, direct, or into an amp/cab. Recording is a breeze. It’s even its own DAW interface. Previously I had a POD HD500. Everything about that was also outstanding EXCEPT speaker cabinet emulation, so the POD sounded great run through a power amp and...

    Synyster Solo Album

I think he gets to do pretty much whatever he wants on the A7X records, so probably not a priority.

    Suggestions for my next guitar

Ibanez RGs or maybe a PRS Tremonti or Holcomb SE.

    Cheap Floyd Rose

Schecter and Ibanez both make a number of affordable, quality axes with Floyds

What lessons would you like to see added?

Honestly there’s so much content here already that it would take a long time to figure out what’s missing, though I’m sure you’ll get some feedback from some folks on EXACTLY what they’ve been working on and were crushed when it wasn’t covered here. Personally, I’m gonna get started diving into...

    S T R E S S E D

No, no no! Don’t give up! The first year is the hardest, but it’s always incremental – the first week is harder than the second; the second week harder than the third.. Once you get to where you start playing SONGS and MELODIES, your motivation will pick up. It takes YEARS to be really good, and...

    Software recommendation

Reaper’s trial version is full-featured and I don’t think it time-bombs. I paid for it not because of nag screens or digital sound inserts, but because it was a great product at a reasonable price and it was worth it. If you’re poor, you can just use it until you can afford it.

To A7X and Syn gates Lets talk about what we want the next album to be like

I think it’s a little arrogant to tell an artist what they should do next creatively. I haven’t enjoyed every song or even every album they’ve done, but they’ve put their hearts and minds into it all and done what they felt was right for them each time. Can’t ask more than that.

    Breaking bad habbits

@greg – practice is different than a gig. In a gig situation (or even if you’re “paying” and not “practicing”), you forget it happened within .1 second and move on. In practice, you stop, go back, and fix it so you don’t get stuck in bad habits. My $.02.

    "Slow down software" [Question]

Amazing Slow Downer. Dumb, if very descriptive, name, and a little pricey, but HOLY COW IS IT WORTH IT. https://www.ronimusic.com/ I can’t tell you how much I wish this existed back when I started learning songs and solos. Lately I’ve been using it to build downpicking speed with Master of...

FocusRite Scarlett series is a solid home interface with decent DACs and a nice preamp.

    Recording software recommendations

I actually often use GP6 for writing out drum parts if I want to do something specific and/or weird, but I then use the EZDrummer plug in on a track in Reaper to import that drum part and make it sound real.

    Drop Pedals: Yes or No?

I have 5 electrics, and I used to keep them all tuned differently to cover different ground, while jamming at home. Recently, talk of playing cover bands has come up, and variously tuned songs would be in the mix. Rather than bring all those guitars and no “hot spares,” I decided to try my hand...

Sorry, I’m pre-YouTube old-school. I think Reaper works for video editing, as well, though.
