Advanced Improvisation

Hey guys! First post on here so I hope I'm doing this correctly. So I've been playing guitar for several years, inspired to play lead by THE Synyster Gates himself. I am entirely self taught, all by ear, and mostly deal with improvisational playing through church and other similar gigs.

The problem is, I want to apply a lot of the cool stuff I've learned from Syn over the years (such as some diminished stuff, some cool shred patterns, interesting note choices, etc.). The problem is, all of the music I'm playing is simple chord progressions (1,4,5,6 type stuff). I can shred all through the major and minor scales, and I understand enough about modes to apply them sparingly, but I've gotten so bored with my note choices. I would love to implement more diminished/dominant jazzier stuff, and I have tried Youtube and other sources, but I can't find anything that applies this interesting playing to the boring chord progressions that I am stuck playing. Nothing I am playing over has any dominant 7's or diminshed flat 5's and what not, making it seemingly impossible to mix what I've learned from Syn with the type of music I am playing multiple times a week.

Sorry for the essay, but I'm hoping that you guys can help me where nothing else has.

Changing tuning

Yo guys, I had my synyster custom s set up for drop D quite a time, and I want to change to drop C#.
I tried when I've change stings but the floyed rose has changed its position so I've revert back to drop D.
Does it's because the intonation the Floyd rose have(and then I could tune to standard D# tuning), ot do I have to set up it?
Thanks for the help

Hey guys! Looking for recommendations for a guitar

Hey guys,

I'm Sergey, 30 years old from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I learned guitar as a teen playing from tabs. Played acoustic and electric on an epiphone les paul(didn't like the form factor that much). Into 70-90s rock like GnR, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Queen, AC/DC, RAtM, Zeppelin. Obviously A7X, and also Disturbed.
I've decided to go back to the basics and re-learn the guitar and as a huge A7X fan found this school from one of Syn's interviews and decided to enroll. Currently, I own a spanish and acoustic guitars, but want to get into the electric guitar again. My budget is around 3k CAD(around 2.2k USD) and I need all the equipment pretty much: electric guitar, amp, anything else that you think I should get. Not into les pauls anymore :) The budget is flexible if you think I should add more and it's totally worth it.

Hello everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Aedan Norris and I am excited to join the Synner community! I'm glad to see such a friendly and active community, where people share common interests and passions. My history with the world of synths began several years ago when I happened to come across a video demonstrating the capabilities of synths and electronic music. I was immediately immersed in this amazing sound world and haven't been able to tear myself away from it since. I'm new to synthesizers, but I'm enthusiastic and eager to learn more. I have some skills in music, and I've already started learning the basics of synthesizer programming and creating my own sounds. I look forward to interacting with you, sharing my progress, and receiving valuable advice and guidance from experienced community members. My main interests include experimental sound, analog synthesizers, and creating atmospheric soundscapes. I'm also very curious about new technologies and tools in the synthesizer field, and I'm willing to dive deep into the depths of modern digital synthesizers. I would like to thank you for the warm welcome and the opportunity to be part of this community. I am sure that with your help and support, I will be able to grow in this amazing field and contribute to the Synner community. Thank you so much, and I can't wait to start interacting with you!

Best wishes,
Aedan Norris

Guitar Practice outside of Syn’s School

Hello everyone,

I’ve had my custom-s since about mid December, and I’ve been going through Syn’s school with Papa Gates, but I feel that I’m not improving as fast as I could be - or should be considering I’ve had an acoustic for a little under a year.
For my acoustic practice I was really inconsistent, but when I did practice I used JustinGuitar.
When you all started out did you do anything outside of the school here? What could I do to improve a bit faster? I know I should include a metronome, but not sure what else.
Any recommendations or guidance would be appreciated.

The Cost of the Road

This tour manager took Shadows' statement about tour bus costs being up $2 million over their last tour, and broke it down and investigated a little during a livestream. It's fascinating, and gives a little more insight into what it takes for a band like Avenged to hit the road for six months.
