Beginners Corner

Feel pressured or nervous to put your beginning accomplishments up with those shredding out 32nd note sweeps? Firstly, you shouldn't. Secondly, this place is just for you! This is the BEGINNERS spot where you can feel comfortable posting your first riff, song, whatever!
Couldn’t resist uploading my practice. I never could do arpeggios very well, but I think I did pretty awesome here. This version has a more clean sound so you can hear my hard work nice and clear.
As my one year anniversary of playing seriously is coming up I’ve been a bit nostalgic and rewatching some of my old stuff. I came across this one and decided to share. It’s not great but It reminded me of a sound and technique I really wanted to do. As a beginner I want to learn everything I possibly can, but some things stick more than others and I think that’s a big part of discovering “my” sound. After I’ve got the Seize the Day solo where I’m happy with it I think I want to go back to sounds more like this. They make me ridiculously happy, even if it’s not the “cool” shredding ! Lol
I know the little tags are for fun, but I take mine very seriously 🤣 I do love me some campfire chords !!! It’s a little country, but then again, I am from Georgia so don’t expect any less ! Lol
Taking a break from my solo, here’s my take on “This is Halloween” I’m hoping I can convince the husband to play the accompanying guitar.....fingers crossed lol
2nd day of my improv challenge. Still trying to figure out how to surf over the fretboard creating melody and motif
So, life and work have been crazy (and still are) but I didn't want to let too much time pass before posting something new. This is my attempt at Hotel California and a little barre chords...yeah, still a lot of work to do, but hey 2 months ago I didn't even know any chords 🤷‍♀️!! And I swear, I'm working on other strumming patterns, just don't feel ready to post that yet 😂😂 Have a nice weekend everybody 🖤 Let me know if you have any tips to improve
here's my first try at the extreme improv challenge...there are some notes that shouldn't be there, please don't be mean to me :)
I learned the rest of the solo this past a Saturday. I have so much to work on but I am excited that I can practice it in its entirety now ! I have one more lesson with the all mighty @[77:@Hector Trejo] and then I’m going to practice, practice ,practice until I can get this as close to perfect as I possibly can for myself! Hopefully it won’t take too long and I can update you guys soon ! 😁
It’s been 5 days since I posted an update (not counting my plea for help lol) I can see some improvement and that’s super exciting. Still a long ways to go, but want to share my progress with you all!
This is me practicing just the arpeggio's for the CAGED system from the lessons! I'm really digging this kind of practicing for myself. Playing things slower has me antsy, but I'm retaining this info better all while learning the fretboard more. Major and Pentatonic scales are feeling close to good, so I'm aiming to be able to play those together later in the week!

Major scale day 4

Learned 2 ways now to do the scale and my alternate picking feels much more natural, had to take a couple days off wrists started hurting haha.
It’s been a minute since I’ve posted a help video in true awkward Alicia Style, but I’m back with an even better mom bun and more eye bags ! 🤣 Seriously though, I’ve been playing a little less than a year so this solo is teaching me a plethora of techniques and I’m working on a bunch.Hector has been fucking amazing (but I don’t want to aggravate him to death) there’s one spot where I’m not sure if it’s just more practice needed or if you guys might have some secret wisdom to share ! Let me know Fam! ❤️ Edit: so in the video I say 2 notes after the bend but it’s really 3 notes lol. I get nervous and screw up what I’m trying to say. 😬
Never thought I would play this song at 100% speed but here I go. Endurance fails me though and towards minute 2 or 2:30 I lose the timing and try to catch up with the song. My challenge now is to be able to release some tension from my arms to be able to play the full rhythm clean
Hi guys! I’m back with a full cover of Zacky’s part for Hail to the King! Dedicated to our Mama Cat, Jak. Thank you for always being my number one fan and supporter since day one! ♥ I hope this does you proud!
For me the biggest and best “prize” in coming in 2nd on the Rockstar Student award is the lessons with the all mighty Hector Trejo to learn my favorite Avenged solo. I’ve only seriously been playing less than a year and this is so different from anything I’ve attempted before so I was a bit weary to post my journey, but seeing CJ’s updates has giving me the courage I needed ! So I wanted to share with you guys as I work on this. Today was my second lesson with Hector. There are so many techniques and things I’ve never done, and while it’s honestly awful now, I know what I need to work on and how to get there and at the end of the day I feel like this is going to be a major learning moment for me ! No matter how long it takes, I’m determined to get it, get it right, and make the school and Mr. Trejo proud ! Just because you’re a beginner doesn’t mean you can’t aim big ! Practice until your fingers bleed ! Lol. Okay maybe not that much, but you get the jist 🤣

Well so i decided to post a small progress i have with buried alive, hope you like it!!
So, had to literally force myself to upload this video. Be kind to me 😂😂🙏 As I recorded this I noticed a lot of things I have to work on that I hadn't noticed while just playing (or trying too). Also, sorry for the crappy quality, I'll improve on that too hopefully. Let me know what you think I can do to better myself. Thanks 😘😘
Posted this on my insta a few days ago and figured I share here to get everyone into the spirit !!! I’m definitely going to need CJ to teach me his masterful editing ways ! Lol. Happy Early Samhain everyone !
Allright, so this was the first riff that I uploaded on this site ~ 4 months ago. By now, I'm using the intro, verse & chorus and the first two mini-soli as a daily warmup. For me, the warmup is there to get relaxed and get in the mood to play, so any serious metronome exercises (riffs, scales, etc...) come AFTER the warmup and are not part of it! So thats why there is no metronome in the video. :P I was inspired to actually film this by @[4668:@Alicia Willis] "First riff" challenge, so here is the link to my first filmed riff in my guitar journey for comparison: https://syngates.com/media/sweet-child-omine-intro-lick-80-bpm.3351/
Alicia had a nice idea. Posting a video of when you first started playing a song and now. I found 2 video's. One is when i started trying this solo and another is from a few months ago. Its still not perfect, but its nice to see the difference :) Sorry about the add through the video... I didnt have a video program to put the 2 vids together (if someone knows a good free program for that??)
I decided to take a step back and look at how far I’ve come. I found the very first riff I learned, “Enter sandman” and watched myself....no palm mutes, tons of extra strong noise and playing it all on one finger (no power chords) My guitar journey has been short, and often times I don’t feel like I’ve made much progress, but then I see old videos and realize I HAVE made progress, even if it’s slight and that’s motivation to keep going ! No matter how long it takes ! 😁
