Community Update

Recently, we have been forced to take permanent action against a long-time member of the community.

It began with harsh and repeated acts of sexual harassment on this site and many others that ultimately led to another member of the community feeling unsafe and leaving the site.

There were tangible consequences for this individual, but unfortunately, those consequences only led to bitterness and a sustained retaliation against Community Leaders, public outbursts, and attacks on this site and the official Discord, as well as angry attempts to engage Syn and Papa Gates directly.

As a result, we have been forced to terminate their membership from Synner.

For months now, this individual, through private messages and posts elsewhere, has attempted to paint the leadership in draconian ways. We feel it is important to point out that in 4 years, the number of times SGS/Synner leadership has had to take moderating actions is negligible (the times can literally be counted on one hand).

Syn and Papa Gates have created a wonderful, open, and safe community for people of all origins and individualities to learn, grow, and contribute as they like, and it is our GREATEST responsibility to ensure that continues.

We regret that it came to this, but they left us with no other choice. We will NOT identify this person, in public or private, so please do not ask.

In the recent “Town Hall Meeting” we stated that we would be as transparent as we possibly could, and so we knew the community should be made aware of our most recent action, as it is an unprecedented one. We also want to ensure ALL members of this community that we are here for YOU and to keep this community a safe space for all.

Schecter USA Custom Strat

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share this cool guitar I got a couple months back. We see all kinds of Schecters here, but none like this. This is a Custom Shop USA Made Schecter Stratocaster type guitar. Not sure exactly how old it is, but I believe it's late '90s. Has a beautiful greenish/goldish sparkle finish. The pictures don't do it justice, it's even more beautiful in person. The previous owner liked EVH so he ripped out the tone knobs so be more Eddie like. Maple neck, some kind of Dimarzio pickup in the Bridge and I assume Schecter pickups in the middle and neck. Has a beautiful off white pearloid pickguard. Didn't come with a backplate, so I bought one on Amazon but I might remove it. Wilkinson Bridge, classic style tuners. Plays great and sounds amazing. Very versatile as I can play metal with it and also get beautiful cleans.

Wish I had more info on it, but it's hard since it's a custom. I'm going to have my tech take off the neck and look for any info regarding when it was made.

I realized I had no guitars with single coil pickups, and I never really owned a strat. I was planning to get a Mexican made Fender, but I jumped at the chance when I found this.

Using audio interface for recording guitar and amp sims stuff

So I bought an audio interface to basically get a good guitar tone and for recording covers. It's a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22. I watched some videos on YouTube for reviews and also heard from a friend that owned it, that it's pretty good. When I first set the thing up, I was totally confused because of Asio then I found how to use it. Now here's the problem, anyone who uses audio interfaces knows that you need to plug the headphones in the interface because if you try using it with the pc output you get weird screeching sound with tons of latency. But the interface has a quarter inch port for headphones and the my main headset has a usb jack so I couldn't plug those in so I used a cheap headphone and a 3.5 to quarter inch converter but the sound was pretty bad. I asked some people on forums they said that you need studio monitors for that but I dont have that kinda money. I could although afford some studio headphones that cost around 3000 rupees or 40.38$. Can I get a good tone in studio headphones? If you use audio interface with studio headphones or maybe have experience about all this stuff, please reply. If yes, please try to suggest some headphones that cost around the price range I mentioned.

Totally Curious! What Will Your SynTV Channel Be About?

Hey everyone! I kinda thought about something cool. The great thing about this community extending is that we can now learn more about each other, other than music stuff! So I'm SUPER curious, what will YOUR SynTV channel be about?

Mine will mostly be about developing great practice routines based on these lessons, as well as some of my motivational talks I use to do! I have some other things I'd like to cover but I have to talk to the team first to make sure it's suitable material. Let me hear your ideas!

Keeping it fresh in the bedroom.............with guitars.

In response to Queen Jak's thread, I wish to share with you guys one interview session where @Syn Gates , ZV & JC talked about their experiences as stringers and overcoming difficulties picking up certain techniques, like how ZV had to learn the alternate-picking stuff & fast shreddy stuff from Syn, while Syn had to learn the aggressive, down-picking, rhythmic stuff from ZV, how they both adapted each other's strengths despite the different styles and turned it into versatility which enriches their tonal capabilities, and how Johnny needs to grow taller, etc.,

There are older interviews from as early as the CoE days that they talk about the same thing - which only goes to show how consistently motivated they've been as guitarists since then till now :)

You may choose to watch the entire interview from the start, or skip straight to the Technique talks at around the 16:50 mark ;)

Cheers! :rock-hand:

Help

Hello I finally got a custom s. But it feels weird to play it feels like my prs is better or something is wrong with my guitar. When I switch to bridge(synyster signature pickup) it sounded like an active pickup with low battery when doing some lead, but when doing chords its good. It feels like sustains are cut every note, its like playing on a super clean effects on distortion without the sustain. And I noticed something with my sustainiac it doesnt turn on(the harmonics and stuffs) when its full volume in guitar. Do you guys think something is wrong with my guitar its like 2 days old and I changed the battery like 4x

How am I supposed to make the lower and higher notes sound good at the same time?

Oh my poor ears. 😭 (and my neighbours ears perhaps)

My high notes are so sharp in the ears it feels like it's stabbing my eardrums. (Sharp in sound, not note) I've tried making it softer with the toneknob and by lowering the treble and mids. It works a little but it makes the lower notes sound "dull". I can't switch between a riff and highnote lick and make both sound okay.
It has to be an EQ/setting solution I'm missing because drowning it in reverb isn't a good option. 😅

I'm using my bridgepick up with amp distortion and an overdrive pedal.
My settings at the moment are: treble 3/4, mids 2/3, bass 5/6, distortion 6/7, and overdrive Three quarters open. The toneknob on the overdrive is over halfway too.

Learning on different neck/fret/scale sizes VS sticking to one?

I am a beginner who spends too much time on Ebay and likes to tinker with electronics, so I've got my main guitar I'm learning on, a Schecter Reaper, and then some fixer-uppers I'm working on. I bought a beater PRS 245 that had wiring issues that I was able to fix and is surprisingly playable now. I've also got a strat style project on the way which I'm sure my wife will be thrilled by... (Alcohol and Ebay may have been involved...)

My question is this: am I risking bad habits or at least inefficient practice by picking up fairly noticeably different guitars depending on the mood I'm in or room I'm in when I have time to practice? There's a pretty noticeable difference going from a 24 jumbo fret 25.5 scale guitar to a 22 fret 24.5 scale guitar with smaller frets. Simple stuff (ok everything I do is simple stuff but simple even for me) is noticeably different though not night and day different... for example I almost have to use a bar to play an open A chord on the PRS where I can easily get 3 fingers in place on the Schecter. The Strat appears to be a 25.5 scale, but 22 fret, so that may be less of a shift once I have it up and running. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot here, and I'm unsure if swapping around a lot would be helpful or harmful long term. If I had to choose one style the 25.5 / 24 would be an easy choice being more of a metal and rock fan with thicker hands, but in most of my hobbies I like having projects going and variety.

I think I'm not the only person who saw the most recent music is win video on Youtube. It's about dailing the volume on your amp way up instead of on your guitar.
My amps volume is always at 1, I turn my guitar up until after the distortion sets in well. Over halfway open I think.
I had heard about turning up the amp before but just forgot about it. Now I'm curious what others do.

SYN-C - GOLDEN GODDESS - fake? damaged?

Hey guys.

So the Golden goddess was sold out on the store and I had been looking at it for a while. So I was pretty bummed about it. So I went for the dark knight and it was sold out too.
So.
One conveniently popped up on eBay for $2000 CAD. I thought this was strange considering it was listed as brand new.
But I paid with PayPal so all was fine.
Surprisingly, I got the guitar UPS express next day.
Came stapled shut in the schecter box (I have three other syn customs from schecter and a syn special. All came very similar)
Neck was wrapped and to my surprise it was a beautiful guitar.

Overcome with beauty she went right on the wall next to the others. I noticed the fret buzz was a bit strange so I took It in to get looked at. The guys thought it was beautiful at first sight. But called me later and told me they could only set the action super high, which I found annoying.
Whatever. When I got it back I gave her a good play and one on one time.
Plays very well, but not as well as my custom s.

I began to study it and I began noticing quite a few different flaws within the guitar that aren't apparent on my other guitars from schecter that are raising suspicion. The paint is very sloppy in places, uneven and it almost looks like the neck was repainted or cracked or something. The tremolo system seems very off and the binding is somewhat separating from the body at the bottom of the guitar.

I was wondering if you guys could take a look at this and see what you think.

Thanks.

I'm thinking - jazz, funk, latin/bossa, country, songwriting, acoustic, studio tricks, more blues, more theory, music biz.
Let me know your thoughts.
It can be music related or not. You know me - I'm breezy.

Happy Vets Day! (And a cool meme)

I know it's a day late (and at least a dollar short these days). But being dollars short, I was busy getting my free meals at Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebees yesterday so. even less active on the forums than usual.
But anyway, Happy Dog Gone Vets Day to all who served!!!

On a personal note, serving in USMC 07-15 is actually quite responsible for me being an A7X junkie. I can't think of veterans day and my time serving without thinking of A7X because they were in alot of ways the soundtrack to that generation.

The songs MIA and Gunslinger got a lot of us through those times, and the WTF/CoE/White Album/Diamonds/Nightmare albums were huge among my platoon those days. I remember on the live at the LBC video before Gunslinger, M Shadows says (and I paraphrase for easier to understand meaning) "whether you believe in the wars or not this goes out to everyone serving". Not to be political but just for context: even within the troops the opinion on that decade was very divided as far as foreign policy goes. So it was nice to know that my favorite band at the time was thoughtful enough to have our backs and dedicate some songs to that generation (their generation). Everyone from the devoutly committed career soldier to the young kid who started questioning things but wanted to honorably serve the time that they swore an oath to serve much appreciated that. I was already a fan by WTF so when City and White Album dropped with those tracks it made us feel like somebody was thinking of us and strengthened my connection to their music.

Side Note: Those songs still hold up and always will. Gunslinger is the ultimate underrated power ballad of A7X and MIA is the masterpiece song and the solo that everyone is still trying to learn lol. I think of all the A7X 10-20 minute long back-end of-the-album tracks, I'd put it as their best right after 'Save Me'.

Lastly, here's my favorite military meme and a snapshot of how life was for a lot of us serving in our 20s

When I'm in my email, it only let's me choose "emails from x activity" or "all Synner emails from the website completely." I tried looking in my account details and I can't find anything that would be it

Name this chord 🤟

Hey guys, so I was just watching a video of a friend showing his new music & he described a chord he played simply as a 'C minor' - however the exact voicing of notes he played were: C F# G Eb- which sounded amazing - but not strictly a C minor chord, or even strictly from the C minor scale. If you ignore the F#, its C minor, but if you ignore the G and think of the F# as Gb its Diminished - but you can't ignore anything 😂

The full chord progression to give context was : G, C, G, ("C minor")

With the intervals R #4 5 b3- I had the idea of calling it a Lydian b3 chord (4th Mode in G Harmonic Major)

I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas or if I'm missing anything?

Cheers!
